    Dr. Matthew Weiner is an author and bariatric surgeon who specializes in the treatment of obesity. His practice is located in Tucson Arizona.
    Dr. Weiner graduated from the University of Michigan medical school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his general surgery residency at New York University Hospital in New York City. He practiced in suburban Detroit for 12 years before moving to Tucson in 2019 where he, together with Dr. Guillermo Higa, founded Tucson Weight Loss Surgery.
    In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Weiner is the Director of Bariatric Surgery and the Medical Director of Telemedicine at Tucson Medical Center. He is an active member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) and is a past President of the Michigan State chapter a Bariatric Surgeons.
    Dr. Weiner has performed more than 2000 bariatric surgeries since joining his first practice in 2006 and frequently does complicated revision surgery. He also performs general surgery with an interest in stomach and small intestine surgery along with complex hernia repair.
    In his first book, A Pound of Cure, Dr. Weiner debunks the traditional understanding of calorie balance driving weight loss and offers a non-surgical solution to those suffering from obesity through nutritional stability.
    His second book, How Weight Loss Surgery Really Works: And How to Make it Work for You, is now available on Amazon in paperback and kindle. In this book, Dr. Weiner describes how the hormonal changes that alter your brain, fat stores and hunger signals are the most important component of weight loss surgery, rather than the portion control effects that have been emphasized in the past.
    A third publication called The Bariatric Diet Guide And Cookbook is a cookbook for bariatric patients that will offer recipes and guidance on the most effective post-surgical diet. It’s set to be published in May 2021 and is available for pre-order at most online bookstores.
    On his website, www.poundofcureweightloss.com, he offers more than 150 videos on a wide array of nutritional and bariatric topics. Lesson plans range from, “Preparing for Weight Loss Surgery” to “The Metabolic Reset Diet” including recipes and meal plans.
    Dr. Weiner is licensed to practice in both Arizona and Michigan and even offers Telemedicine appointments. For more information call his office at (520) 420-1000 or check out his many resources below. For more videos and Facebook Live events, subscribe to his UA-cam channel.

    I had a hard time waking up, can't remember to much about my first day. And my blood pressure went very low. So they kept me a second night. I went home on the third day. Felt great after that. No pain.

    Everyone told me this, lol. This was not my experience at all. The day of surgery the before was fine, no nerves at all, the surgery team was super kool. My surgeon was super relaxed. Everyone was talking to me then I was out. I woke up when my daughters and granddaughters came to see me and were arguing about who was there first, lol. I was on pain meds up to my day going home. I couldn’t pee the first day and a half so I had surgery on Friday and went home Sunday evening. I had no upset tummy. I got up to walk 3 times a day, had my ice chips and liquids. I slept a lot from the pain meds, I had a pain push the first 2 days.
    Walking did help a lot. I just couldn’t pee on my own even after walking. 10 laps, no but I walked with my girls, usually about 6 of they. I have a total of 11. Daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters, no boys😿, lol.
    The first week home I got dehydrated and had to be infused at my weight loss center on my scheduled 5th day visit and get vitamin B1 and B12 shots. I now make sure I get all in now. A B1 shoot is hell😱😱😱, seriously!!!!
    The pain was gone around week 3, unless I did something stupid.
    So far, so good!👍🏾

There should be walking and lifting restrictions. 8 days out, went to the dentist, store to get broth and was so exhausted I could barely walk to make it to the register. My son had to help me, plus out to, in & out the car, up the stairs and in bed. Won't be doing that again. Plus it was 94 degrees in Arizona. 😫

    I would like to thank you, Dr. Weiner for all the You Tube Sessions that you have created. I really did not have much to guide me after the Gastric Sleeve Surgery and your individual You Tube Sessions helped answer questions that I wanted answered. I am post op since November 5, 2015 and am at a plateau. I started out at 207 and now weigh 189 pounds. I seem to be holding this weight for almost three weeks. Is this normal? I do admit that I eat a sweet snack now and then at night time. I have been eating the prescribed foods and exercise. I am also a diabetic and 61 years old. Thank you, Judy Boris (Chicago).

    • @apoundofcure
      @apoundofcure  8 років тому

      +Judy Boris Judy, since you started out at a lower weight, you will lose weight more slowly then someone who starts out 100lbs more. You have lost 18 pounds in two months - this is within the range of normal weight loss after surgery for someone your size. Plateaus are common, be patient. Also, if you lost weight before surgery, often time this slows down weight loss after surgery.

    • @apoundofcure
      @apoundofcure  8 років тому

      Plateaus after surgery are common and not cause for concern, you will lose a lot more weight, be patient and focus on good nutrition and exercise

    I think the sleeve has come a long way even since this video. My surgery was on 8-26-19 and my surgeon doesn’t believe in catheters. By the end of the first day they just made sure I was able to urinate on my own, which I was. Also, I have rheumatoid arthritis and one of my medications is rather large and I take two pills twice a day. They told me I could start taking my regular medications the day after I got home which was my second day post op and I was fine.

    Dr. Weiner I'm looking into the process of bariactric surgery, however I see that one can't have sugar drinks or limited to sips after surgery. How would this affect hypoglycemia? If you are a type 1 diabetic on a pump how do one go bout knowing how much base insulin is required after surgery? what are requirements for pre & post op care for Diabetics?

    Dr. Weiner, something to ask you. I am going to have VSG in 2 weeks, and just RECENTLY was told by my Doctor at my last visit that I would not be allowed to take NSAID's after my procedure is done. This was new news to me, and am quite afraid because there is a strong history of Arthritis in my family. It just concerns me thinking that IF I do accumulate Arthiritis later in life or in old age (currently I'm 30), how effective will my treatment be in terms of the inflammation and pain? And what other alternatives are there? I would appreciate your knowledge on this subject.
    Thank You!

    • @apoundofcure

      This is a tricky question to answer online and one that should be addressed by your surgeon. I have found Levsin (hycosamine) to be very helpful, but defer 100% to your operating surgeon who should be the one addressing this issue.

      @@apoundofcure Thank you Dr. I'm old school I don't have any of these social media platforms, but since I had this surgery years ago now I can say now I had zero issues and have been MRSA infection free for the better part of a decade. I think they just gave me Mupiricon to use for 10 days before the surgery just as precaution.

    10 days PO gastric bypass...didn’t have any nausea for the first 5 days. Once I started eating full liquids, now I’m getting bouts of nausea on and off. I’m having to take my anti nausea meds everyday. Is this normal?

    I am considering gastric sleeve surgery. However, I have a condition called aclasia which means I have peristalsis of the throat muscles. I drink water to get the food down. How will that affect that surgery

    • @apoundofcure
      @apoundofcure  7 років тому

      Absolutely a critical point that must be discussed with your surgeon - I would encourage you to explore a gastric bypass, I fear a sleeve would worsen your achalasia symptoms

    • @janinerogers8730
      @janinerogers8730 7 років тому

      I appreciate your input. I do not have reflux like so many people. Mine is just the difficulty of swallowing. If I eat slowly with small sips of water I usually don 't have problems. That is why I am considering the sleeve.
