Philip Andre, the director who shot this video in New York, had an excellent insight into matching that shrinking heart with the cold demeanor of the people that Kelky Hutchinson, (the girl in the video) is trying to interact with. A red heart always has a great emotional impact on people.
The 2002 game kingdom hearts has that exact effect. And that's my childhood. This and that game resonate the inner spirit of the 2000s. Only this one particular was about people giving a dame.

I have a dream that after Covid "ends" or rather restrictions loosen up, Roger Sanchez remakes this video with same actors... And includes real life reactions of people seeing this woman with her giant heart. Imagine those genuine and honest reactions after so long "hibernation" of social life.

No words can express how much this track means to me. This song was bottomless for me. The lyrics and this video got me through some of the most hardest times in my life. Beautiful message, beautiful song. I love it.

It really hit me when the heart became smaller and smaller. Shows that one naturally have a big heart but people consciously or unconsciously does not appreciate it, soon you become a heartless soul, hoping for another change 😢

When this first came out I adopted it as a personal "woe is me" anthem/prayer. Years earlier I had blew it with someone, THE ONE and spent years (Decades) lamenting MY mistake. Well I got Another Chance and after 20+ years we're back together. Its been amazing.

I remember watching Mtv like 20 years or more ago and being mesmerized watching this video. I just got to understand the conversations cuz by the time I didn't speak English at all, but by the size of her heart you could understand what was happening. By that time I didn't know this was New York and it wasn't and idea of possibility of me knowing this city ever and it turns out I'm writing this comment from a computer at work in New York City, where I work.

When I hear this song and watch this video I go back to times when things were a lot different. I remember 2001 and of course I miss it. This song makes me nostalgic for how things were 20 years ago when I was only 23. I miss the people I hung out with back then. Can't believe it's been that long.
I remember being a late teenager and this song and video appeared at TMF/MTV etc. I was at that moment at the end of a 17 year long period of systematic child abuse.... I felt exactly like the girl in the video and I cried my heart out. Now, as a 39 plus 2 year old adult man with a cat and a lovely wife, seeing this video hits me hard again. For me, this video tells that people walk over you when you show/they know that you have a good/big heart. It happened to me in the corporate world, as a child, in sports. People see that you are big (mostly due to using food as a main coping mechanism for my CC-PTSD) and make horrible remarks. Yet, it made me stronger. I am not afraid of my emotions. If I cry (whether out of sadness or out of happiness) I am not ashamed to show it. It's my life and I do what I want to do. That is basically the story. Don't let others ruin your life, take matters into your own two hands and get on that bicycle, play that football, run those tracks, hike up that mountain and yes, eat that freaking bucket of B&J's Chunky Monkey when you feel like! Remember, it's your life and it is your heart

This song and video reminds me that, all these years later, we still have questions. Looking at the recent global changes in 2020-2022 - there again, the world has changed... and maybe 20 years from now, we will still be asking questions. What a great song and video to draw such a line in history!
At 1:20 there’s a cameo appearance by Armand Van Helden. A nod to his track "You don’t know me" which was a significant influence on house music around the time Another Chance was released.

@@sft-9139 I heard the song yesterday on a 1983 version of American top 40 - the original from Toto. I did not even realize until yesterday that "Another Chance" was sampled from TOTO. The entire Toto IV album is fantastic. Africa is a good song as well, takes me back to being 24 years of age - the magic of good music.

Me too. I live near Philly and haven't been to NY prior to 9/11. Last time I was there was Aug 2001. My friend who I went with is gone now. We had such a great time...went to Statue of Liberty, Coney Island, NY Aquarium. I have pictures of World trade center that I took. Everything was so different back then. Miss it all and miss my friend.

I was in Majorca in 2001 for my first summer away with the lads from work, this was without a doubt the track of the summer. Even listening to it now sends me back to 2001. That summer had so many amazing tracks. Big shout out to anyone bopping on the floors of Fama in Santa Ponsa that summer!
I literally want a still of 4:44 to put on my wall. I remember posting about this song on an online forum my friend and I hosted about electronic music in the early 2000s. We all thought this was the world we'd be in. It was hard but people were easy-going so everything seemed pretty good, or maybe that was just youth.
Life was different pre-9/11. People were nicer.

This is how I currently feeling applying for jobs. You start out bright eyed and eager to join the world. 2 month go past, you start to lose faith, but maybe once and awhile a great opportunity comes by, you give it your all, and get shot down/rejected. You're now 6 months in with no offers, a great opportunity comes by but you're so defeated you look at it and don't even acknowledge it's there. Your defense mechanism is up because you assume it's just another lost cause. You make the choice, give it another chance? Or just ignore it.
Don't let it bring you down. Cheer up! Don't take life so seriously. It will all pass. Be nice to yourself.

I relate so much to this video. I feel like I have love to give, but people are so cynical from the atomization of living under the most extreme version of neoliberal capitalism that people see empathy and genuine kindness as having some ulterior motive. I'm almost 30 and have been single this whole time, because I was too afraid of accepting the love of the one person I've ever met who actually understands me - all because I was afraid of how I would somehow fuck it up and then my decade-long friendship would be over. Basically if I had just loved myself and gave myself as much forgiveness and leeway to make mistakes as I try to give others (and had stopped caring about what my father would think about my partner, and hadn't been so shallow about looks), I would probably be married now. But now it's too late. The other person got married, then divorced 3 years later, and now the opportunity is long gone. The point is, when you find someone who genuinely accepts you (flaws and all), don't do what I did. But I guess they deserved better, because I didn't even love myself enough to love someone else. I do now, but it took 9 years from when we first met while I was on study abroad and meeting up with friends from back home at a sex shop in Amsterdam. The saying "if you can't love yourself, how are you ever gonna love someone else?" is more true than any other piece of advice I could ever say to someone about love. Learn to love yourself in a healthy way, and only then will you ever be able to make yourself and another person happy for the long-term.
Hey you have plenty of time at 30 and it's never too late sometimes you have to get lost to learn the way.

I ended up meeting someone and we hit it off so well that we have been living together for 1 and a half years, and because we have so so much in common our relationship just works. Sometimes things turn around when life feels at its lowest. And just accept it when you meet someone who truly cares for you, even if they aren’t your ideal partner on the surface.
