Back when it was released the same things you thought were 90's were also weird for the time, because it is that type of movie.

There is a whole argument between the boys about the muscular one "only" recently getting a 1400 on his SAT's and likely not going to be accepted into Ivy League universities. It also starts off in "present day" stating Charlie was an 18 year veteran and saying he was "the best new officer on the force" in the wedding flashback. - I've seen a few comments like yours and honestly am confused that people aren't getting the boys are clearly in high school and 16 or 17 at the oldest. Rewatch if its been awhile and it'll be really obvious, I promise.

How could they not know lol? They rented the movie, they can see everything, the year is usually added above the synopsis. There is a cut scene where the farmer that owns the cow stops them a couple miles down the road. The cow loved to nap in the road, it wasn't hit by anything. He shot a perfectly healthy/happy cow. They also make a joke about it later where the cow is wrapped in bandages.

We still have raunchy comedies, just not as often. Strays and No Hard Feelings just came out last year. And still many dark comedies that are very good, like Poor Things. There are still audiences for all genres and categories.

FUN FACT: The scene where Charlie tells the boys to kiss him was totally unscripted. Jim Carrey improvised it on the spot and the boys went right with it and kissed him without breaking character. When Jim Carrey tells you to kiss him you just go with it and do as he says!😂😂😂

I remember the whole movie theater roaring with laughter during the entire showing. I miss the days when society was less sensitive, able to recognize funny, and not just looking for things to be offended about.
The total 180 on the soundtrack and score was in part another way to show the idea of the split personality.

Oh! So this two reactors didn't enjoy the movie as much as other people, i hope the comment section is understanding that different opinions are valid and if this two didn't like it, that doesn't make the filmd bad or make the two reactions "too sensible".
There was a scene where there was an extra in the background in a wheelchair. They didn't pay attention to what was going on in the movie at that moment because they said they were worried that something might happen to that extra. That's what we're dealing with. That's not sensible.
I know alot see Jim Carrey as a comedy guy. But he has been in serious movies. You two need to check out The Number 23.
