    Very well done. Man, Douglas knew how to appreciate the Aboriginal way-of-life, and how to show this lifeway to others. Many thanks to the host of this channel for sharing this.

    ive just got to clarify this.....barramundi are only classified as " good eating " fish because the fillets of meat on either side of it are easily removed from the animal and they have no miniscule bones in them. so in regards of quantity of edible flesh and lack of hairline bones they are a top fish. on a flavor scale there are many, Many, MANY fish that are considerably better tasting

    He clearly loved being free with the people he interacted however he missed a key tenament of many of the First Australians and that is warning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders viewers that the film may contain images of deceased persons. That is the true way to respect the culture, in his defence he is much better than many in the time this was made.

    • @byza101
      @byza101 4 місяці тому

      @@nevilleburley8760 was that a consideration for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders back then? Or is that a more recent thing like the welcome to country. Reason I ask is that Malcolm has videos of funerals and ritual circumcisions which the then peoples were happy for him to film and produce? I am sure that Malcolm was in touch more than any other white fella has been, so any cultural sensitivities would have been communicated to him.

    • @nevilleburley8760
      @nevilleburley8760 4 місяці тому

      Not saying the name or mentioning the name or anything about a deceased member has been a cultural practice for thousands of years and is part of Lore for a lot of Aboriginal communities.
      Back then it wasn’t known by most of the community because they didn’t ask or didn’t care. So in answer to your question he probably had no idea it was bad for community members to see loved ones that are now deceased. Maybe the uploader cut it off before uploading or they too inadvertently did the same thing.

    As some people might think this way of life is so very different and barbaric, look at humans in modern society. Still brutally killing and destroying things or other humans on mass scales to feed our greed. Humans have what all animals have. We have to thirst for more. We are the same as these men, we are the same as fish, as lions, as maggots. We are animals. We must not forget. We often think we are so advanced. Life is a repetition of the same cycles and stories. It’s bleak and cold. It’s warm and beautiful. It’s life.

    Incidentally, other tribes burn the fur off the kangaroo first, which prevents contamination of the meat, but also makes cutting the skin easier as the steam inside makes the skin tight like a ballon.

I have seen footage of them from the 40’s and they looked very fit, the women as well. What is this prevalence of leprosy that is mentioned? I would like to see if their is a correlation between the appearance of this disease and the widespread use of chemicals like DDT. There is a sense of casual ignorance about these issue present throughout this documentary, very strange.
