Very well done. Man, Douglas knew how to appreciate the Aboriginal way-of-life, and how to show this lifeway to others. Many thanks to the host of this channel for sharing this.
I lived east of this camp at that time and this is the first such documentary I have seen that is genuine and impresses me. Malcolm Douglas was the real deal.
I have just started watching these great videos in the last month and I am mesmerised it’s bloody fantastic to see the aboriginal people how they use to live . So sad they have changed their ways
Its great Video mate i love it as well But the things they eat made me feel sick. Like to know how the white man live. Because every thing trying to kill you mate great video
The Old Survival Techniques have created a Mastery or Dominion over mere existence or simple plain existence. It gives life or existence something to master or conquer or a purpose for existing at all. These films are in good condition and the quality is very high.
just hearing the flies continuously buzzing keeps me from any kind of envy. These men might be free to live in the wild, but eventually I want my air conditioned room, my tv, and the couch.
ive just got to clarify this.....barramundi are only classified as " good eating " fish because the fillets of meat on either side of it are easily removed from the animal and they have no miniscule bones in them. so in regards of quantity of edible flesh and lack of hairline bones they are a top fish. on a flavor scale there are many, Many, MANY fish that are considerably better tasting
He clearly loved being free with the people he interacted however he missed a key tenament of many of the First Australians and that is warning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders viewers that the film may contain images of deceased persons. That is the true way to respect the culture, in his defence he is much better than many in the time this was made.
@@nevilleburley8760 was that a consideration for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders back then? Or is that a more recent thing like the welcome to country. Reason I ask is that Malcolm has videos of funerals and ritual circumcisions which the then peoples were happy for him to film and produce? I am sure that Malcolm was in touch more than any other white fella has been, so any cultural sensitivities would have been communicated to him.
Not saying the name or mentioning the name or anything about a deceased member has been a cultural practice for thousands of years and is part of Lore for a lot of Aboriginal communities. Back then it wasn’t known by most of the community because they didn’t ask or didn’t care. So in answer to your question he probably had no idea it was bad for community members to see loved ones that are now deceased. Maybe the uploader cut it off before uploading or they too inadvertently did the same thing.
Hunters and gatherers , harsh climate doesn't allow for much else since why they are still semi nomadic , once they depopulate resources in one area to the point where it can't support the tribe they move to next area , all climate related .
@Steve sayer come on lad. This mob know the land better than any of us. They had plenty of time here to learn. You ever eat roo or croc? Bloody beautiful and lean as. Bushfellas live hard but good life. Just take some salt and pepper with ya.
As some people might think this way of life is so very different and barbaric, look at humans in modern society. Still brutally killing and destroying things or other humans on mass scales to feed our greed. Humans have what all animals have. We have to thirst for more. We are the same as these men, we are the same as fish, as lions, as maggots. We are animals. We must not forget. We often think we are so advanced. Life is a repetition of the same cycles and stories. It’s bleak and cold. It’s warm and beautiful. It’s life.
Incidentally, other tribes burn the fur off the kangaroo first, which prevents contamination of the meat, but also makes cutting the skin easier as the steam inside makes the skin tight like a ballon.
This is all about the top end I want to know about the east coast and the middle and bottom of west coast how they were farmers and star gazers ... And not just hunter -gathers.... .p.s I know they had camera's back then photos at least
in tims of abundance, we lose sight of the basics..... im lucky.... always eaten....and always eaten foods of flesh.... i cannot imagin eating heart, liver, lung etc..... and that is because of my lucky upbrining..... to look at a lizard, having known true hunger in the past and say..... ill take that now...... the older i get, the more ashamed i am at my choices......
Suppose those bats aren't carriers. I suspect bats in urban areas where they can come into contact with rabies via rats, cats, dogs etc. might have a higher chance of being carriers, but bats out in the middle of nowhere not so much
I find it strange that a People that have been round for 50 thousand years haven't figured out a better way to cook Food than just throwing it on the Fire hehe! Put it on a Stick or in a bit of Seaweed, Banana leaf or something!
What happened to the aborigines? They look incredibly unfit. The women in particular look horrendously overweight. I have seen footage of them from the 40’s and they looked very fit, the women as well. What is this prevalence of leprosy that is mentioned? I would like to see if their is a correlation between the appearance of this disease and the widespread use of chemicals like DDT. There is a sense of casual ignorance about these issue present throughout this documentary, very strange.
He says at @2:30 that they have moved back to the bush from the towns. Leprosy has been prevalent in aboriginal communities since the late 1800's brought in by Chinese immigrants.
LOL for all we know those people are immune to any number of diseases which animals in wild Australia have. I mean they've had over 20 000 years spend living with and consuming those animals

L would hate to live in Australia everything trying to kill you. These people are great hunters and will eat anything. Thing that would make us sick to these people it just food.
The only thing that tries to kill you are sharks, which can be argued is accidental, and crocodiles. Crocodiles WILL fuck you up. You're more likely to be attacked by a neighbour dog than killed by something in the wild.
Just came back from a 5,000km round trip from Melbourne to Cooper Creek, Innamincka, and Flinders Ranges. Camped out every night in a tent with no fly (dry season) and felt safer than at any time in a modern City. Get out there, leave the urban life behind and get in touch with your past. The camp fire and night stars rejuvenate like nothing else.

I'm sure happy to live in airconditioning and being able to drink etc
The way all our ancestors lived. Amazing
My ancestors were skinning and gutting their food before cooking it

No way, barramundi is delicious. Very popular in Australia
he said good eating in the north… reef fish may be better eating in other regions
A good saltwater barramundi is delicious.
Barra is over rated that's for sure
Now this is real aboriginal respect and tolerance. Showing how they navigated this land. Not all the virtue signalling we have nowadays.
Miss you Malcolm

Insane to see such a primitive way of life. They're living in the stone age. Extremely interesting.

This is Paleolithic society in operation. No cropping or permanent settlements. Seasonal camps or nomadic life only, as hunting and gathering permits.
Ledendary bushmen
Australia is such a harsh country. The culture developed accordingly
Dont say that, a lot of People will keep going bush for ever ,to teach the young ones.

It worked for 50,000 years and theres no need to do it diffrent
If it ain't broke don't fix it .
It was a simple process that preserved energy.
in cooked meat there are 500 different flavour compounds found (chemical molecules) --- they're sensitized to tasting them all
