Dance of Envy still slaps to this day..... I remember the frenzy it had caused back then, even though Karisma was already an established star by then, ppl somehow suddenly woke up to her real acting ability in this movie
Shahrukh and Madhuri's chemistry was absolutely cracking...the aur pass hain scene and the kathak instrumental were stunning...the whistles during the Dholna song in the theater were deafening
I still remember reporters and Bollywood people so called critics tried to defame the madhuri dixit that she has to pack her bags now its end ....and in filmfare awards she got award for dtph and she answered to all those people ...respect and all love to the legend madhuri dixit
Loved Karisma Kapoor as Nisha ❤️❤️❤️..the most relatable female character frm the 90's..my most favourite scene was the jhil scene where Nisha confesses her unhappiness about Rahul and Pooja's relationship 💔💔
Wow! How is it possible to have such a long recall of DTPH and not even mention some of its epic romantic scenes.... especially aur paas aur paas, by far one of the most iconic romantic scene of that decade...wow
I was thinking d same. Really surprising. They only overdiscussed and overpraised karishma kapoor. Discussion on DTPH is zero without discussing romantic scenes..
Same Rahul. Everything you said. Even for me it was never ddlj never kkhh but always DTPH. Love the movie love the soundtrack. Watched it a zillion times. And I was obsessed with Karisma!!
Ok, you guys made me want to watch this again! One of my favorite soundtracks to this day and can not believe it is 25 years old! Always refreshing when Rahul gets sappy about these films. My favorite junk food film with Rahul is Rab Ne Banadi Jodi.
For many it is DDLJ but for me it is Dil Toh Pagal Hai. I was 12 years old and till date it is my favourite movie. It is not one of my favourites but the most favourite movie of all time. Hey Rahul noted, I too was 12 years old 😉.
The first and last time I saw DTPH was as a middle schooler on Netflix. What I remembered from watching it was that the film was really ambitious, enjoyable, kind of a drag, but a clear classic SRK/90s Hindi film. There was clearly a lot of time, money, love, and effort put into the film which is why I think it is still appreciated by so many today. I think when I rewatch it sometime soon, I'll still have my complaints, but as I had watched it for the first time years ago, I will love it for what it was and is for Indian cinema.
Dil To Pagal Hai was the first film I ever watched in a theatre and it's one of those defining childhood moments for me! Since I didn't fully understand the concept of movies at the time, I thought it was almost like a skit or a play on stage. In all my innocence, I have apparently asked my older cousin (who I went with for the film), if we can go backstage and meet SRK. Needless to say, that was the day Santa died for me when she had to pop the bubble and tell me that's not how it works! But nevertheless, such was, is and continues to be the magic of SRK! Somewhere I'm still that 4 year old hoping to go backstage and meet SRK someday
I loved Dil to pagal hai when it came out, it is right up there for me along with Veer Zara among Yash Chopra's films 😊 I agree with Rahul Desai, Shah Rukh and Madhuri did make a great romantic pair.
I love this film..more than kkhh,ddlj,k3g mainly becoz I m a die-hard Madhuri fan..In my opinion srk,Madhuri is the most romantic pair more than srk-kajol..I loved the day dreaming maya/Pooja character and finding the soulmate thing. The music is definitely amazing..I also didn’t pay any attention to Karishma’s character as a kid but I truly understand that character now..
I remember how DTPH was the rage when it released. Everyone was raving about Karisma and her performance. While Madhuri was good, it was Karisma's show all the way!! 🤩🤩
I wish we could see SRK, Karishma and Madhuri together to revisit this!! What a movie. and As Rahul had crush on Madhuri, It was Karishma Kapoor for me!!
I remember I was 14 in theatre...opening with the song le gayi le gayi...I was not sold with the story but I loved how the film looked..was an avid fan of Madhuri
Films shouldn't be compared, but I think when it comes to love triangle based romantic dramas from 1990s, films like Dil toh Pagal Hai was way better than Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, because Dil toh Pagal hai was way ahead of its time for bollywood. The same can't be said for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai as it was just an old thing told in a very polished way.
Dil toh pagal hai is still fresh, you really can see it today and enjoy as much as you did in 1998, it's in true sense the definition of "Feel good film", also the main lead in the film was "dance director", bollywood was not known for this, I mean hero were generally unemployed, majdoors, soldiers, victims etc etc such a unique thing at that time.
Music of this movie is so timeless ...reprise version of Arre Arre ye kya hua is my favorite. I went this movie with my friends first day. Majority was shocked to see title song was filmed on Akshay and Madhuri... Later when I visited Mumbai and say Rhythm House immediately thought of sequence between Shahrukh on phone with Madhuri on Valentine's day. So many memories... Best work of Karishma for sure Manzil tto rahi dhoond lete hai, raste magar kho jaate hai ... Dil to Pagal hai ..
I was in my late teens and conveniently in one-sided love at the time of DTPH, so I identified so so much with the character of Nisha! Especially the 'bhagwan tum bure ho' scene. Now it seems so dramatic but it felt perfect back then. And yes, when I saw Dil Chahta Hai a few years later the first thing I pointed out about Shalini's storyline was 'she's doing a DTPH'.
Watched it again on TV, just a few days ago, was switching between channels, the movie had just started and the scene playing was thr madhuri-srk kathak drums jugalbandi and couldn't stop myself from watching it, ending ul watching the whole film irrespective of the ads. The movie is special for 90s kids who were teenagers at that time, thr music, the dance, the fashion, the beautiful locales, is etched in memory ❤️
OMG I was 12 when I watched it too, and just like Rahul Desai this is my favourite 90s film, it's the one I go back to at least 1-2 a year... and I was also Team SRK-Madhuri instead of SRK-Kajol, omg kahi Rahul mera jeevan saathi toh nahin??
Shah Rukh Khan's chemistry with both his lead actors is amazing. One is that of a genuine friend and the other of a lover. He handles both the aspects so beautifully that it's effortless and outstanding to say the least. The Shah Rukh- Madhuri romance is sizzling hot...live wire to say the least. The tension between them when she reveals that she's supposed to get married to someone else, is idk man, what's the right word.. Heart rending maybe. Everything works for DTPH. Everything. It's a simple love triangle and works like magic. You want to be part of the world. Yash Chopra is such a master at his craft and Shah Rukh Khan is beyond magic. Mad Love to all who made this beauty. ❤
First time I seen in tv📺, and I love❤ with the story. And madhuri Dixit she looks so beautiful😍, innocent🥺, simplicity.. Karishma did great work , srk and md chemistry so real.
I think it was the best performance of Shahrukh Khan and best script by Yash Chopra sir it was the perfect actor and actresses to does the best role and best film performance it is my all time favourite film of Shahrukh Khan
I also didn't like Karishma at first because I saw her as a threat to Madhuri but now, Nisha represents the story of unreciprocated love, and the willingness to admit it, and move on.
Since Rahul Desai is a SRK fan, could you please do a retake on Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa? In my opinion, this is the best SRK performance. And SRK himself agrees.
You guys should do this more often! At least once a month. Also, would love if you revisit veer Zara, and can it be made today; also black and if it has aged well. Or kabhi alvida na kehna and was it ahead of its time?
Every damn thing that Rahul said I feel it, I was 3 when the movie came out but my subconscious had picked it up much like Rahul said as the soundtrack of my life. Here’s hoping we get to see this mad, aspirational, unrealistic, dreamy, makes us believe in soul mates kinda love stories again.
Honestly speaking, the film was so flawed in so many ways, but at a time when there were no streaming platforms, every person watched this movie, it was huge, so it became part of Bollywood history. The soundtrack saved this movie for sure.
That title sequence is definitely copied from When Harry Met Sally (1989) 😮.. and the whole men and women having different views of love and sex also is definitely inspired from that movie..
Surely, I shall watch it again. Also anu ma'am aise wale interview mein aapko dekh ke lagta hai aap hum hi jaise ho, but Wikipedia pe jab aapka kaam dekhta hu toh dar lgne lgta hai, it's so studious🤍
Great pick. I have grown with this movie , can’t be more dreamy and stylish for that era. Please do a retake on Hasee toh phasee , Rocket Singh, Humpty ki Dulhaniya
I love this man. He is so unapologetic about how much he appreciates this film, hes 100% right. Dil to pagal hai is a feeling, nostalgic and the music will stay with you forever. I have seen it more than 50 times and have never found any faults. Shahrukh has the best chemistry with Madhuri, without a doubt! To the point where, when I was younger, I thought they might be hiding feelings from eachother in real life!! 😢
can anyone of you tell me what are their character orgin. what kind of jobs they did in the movie ? even during that time i felt too high class and never connected to their lifestyle.
Probably The most influential movie of my life so far .. at 20 it made me dream of someone somewhere is made for me 😂.. a diehard madhuri fan , the soundtrack is on my playlist even now .. maya remains in my mind even today .. timeless n my soulmate 😉 #refusetogrowup .. and karishma , was never eager on her but this movie makes her immortal in cinema .. and Yash Chopra we miss you soooooo much !
I always loved Chak Dum Dum (the song in the rain). Both the women knew very well, how they really felt and they understood the dynamic even before Rahul does, and yet Madhuri dances in the rain to cheer Karisma up, who was hospitalised due to a fracture. It could have turned into some sort of a negative toxic equation between the two (because that was the norm back then, turning two women against each other if they happened to like the same man). Their relationship was treated differently, if not well.
My take on this movie is that Nisha and Pooja would’ve had a happy and healthy relationship. A pet theory is that this movie was the precursor to ‘Maja Ma’.
Nice to see Rahul. Ple di more of these. Also bring him in late take. FC has become so boring for some time now but enjoyed this. Dil to is only I walked out in my life.

@@bhumijarishi1875 well I rated this film Higher then DDLJ DDLJ was also great film but in that film the performance of Shahrukh Khan as in tense lover boy and the cool boy was unbelievable and thing that I remember so well is the last scenes of the film when Rahul came to Pooja those romantic dialogues were unbelievable mind blowing that was the best part of Shahrukh Khan's acting Record and acting career
Karishma did well for that role but it was SRK madhuri show all the way. Dil toh pagal hai is what is it because of them. Any actress could’ve pulled off karishmas character. It was written well but not the main stay, just keeps saying Rahul Rahul the whole time and her dialogue delivery was not upto the mark, it was squeaky and childish
The movie was a gem 💎,have watched the film at Liberty in Mumbai in my childhood and I loved the film as I'm a great Srk fan since 93 Darr/Baazigar days to till date
Sridevi, Manisha koirala, tabu, Urmila, kajol, sonali, Juhi Chawla, Pooja bhatt, raveena tandon, rani mukherjee we’re offered the film but rejected cuz they didn’t want to play supporting role to madhuri
Sridevi , Urmila , Raveena tandon , Pooja bhatt , Juhi chawla , kajol, Aishwariya , Manisha koirala , Priyanka every actress was offered the role of Nisha but opted not by not playing a fan fav character
Shah Rukh Khan is the best part of the movie. The two actresses could have been any to be honest. The movie doesn't have any story Or plot but it worked big time only because the male lead ie SRK worked and he was able to create an electrifying chemistry with both his costars. That's Khan's beauty. Look at his filmography and in all his films, he has had the most wonderful chemistry with his leading lady. The heroines have changed but Khan has been able to create the sizzling hot chemistry with each of his heroines..be it Kajol, Or Manisha Koirala, or Rani Mukerji, or Preity Zinta or Aishwarya Rai or Madhuri or Karishma or Kareena or Sushmita or Mahima or Deepika or Priyanka or Anushka or Alia...woof...just see this man, just see this! It takes just too much talent to create that stunning chemistry with each new actress. We have seen that other male actors have not been able to do that and hence they look n feel plastic in their romance on screen n their movies don't work. Khan is rightly called the God of romance. Amazing amazing talent. Hats off!!!! 😍😍😍 Yash Chopra is a master behind the camera but with such thin storyline n predictable plot, only Shah Rukh Khan could save the movie and that's what he did. The music was superlative and Khan took it several notches higher through his charisma on screen. Shah Rukh Khan is SuperGod! Love to him! God bless you, you outstanding talent...only you could make us believe in outlandish fairytale swoony romances ❤
Kajol SRK chemistry is overrated! There was way more intensity passion in his natural chemistry with madhuri in dil tho pagal hai and Manisha koirala in dil se. These 2 movies of shah rukh and even parades to an extent made shah epitome of romance for me in the 90s. Not DDLJ .. not kuch kuch hota hai which was highly overrated
Totally agree ,Srk kajol pair is kiddish childish pair ,that hype was created by Chopra but Madhuri Srk pair is much matured n actually sizzling chem, both r enjoying throe companies n obsessed with each other but never said in the media or public
The major problem which I had with Dil To Pagal Hai, is that unlike DDLJ or KKHH 1. there are very little effort in character building, and side characters including Farida Jalal, Aruna Irani, Anupan Kher, add nothing to the storyline (whereas side roles are fleshed out in DDLJ and KKHH) 2. there are no flow of events, and nothing actually happens in course of the film 3. the film is rooted in fantasy world ( as opposed to rose tinted ersion of reality in KKHH). Everything looks unreal from the core (including the skyline from windows to musical stage show thing to day trip to Europa Park in Germany).
Basically Anupama chopra is trying to undermine Madhuri's performance and praising karishma , she didn't even mentioned once that madhuri was great or did great
Comment below:- Your Favorite scene from DTPH.
Where karishma throws stones n says "me buri Nahi Hun wo Bura h"
aur paas
When Madhuri imitates Shahrukh khan and he’s looking at her from behind - ♥️
Definitely Karishma throwing stones in the water..
The envy scene
Dance of Envy still slaps to this day..... I remember the frenzy it had caused back then, even though Karisma was already an established star by then, ppl somehow suddenly woke up to her real acting ability in this movie
Totally. Still slaps. No Bollywood dance choreography & direction has matched since.

very subtle and nuanced performance by Madhuri and Shahrukh both.

The movie was a gem 💎,have watched the film at Liberty in Mumbai in my childhood and I loved the film as I'm a great Srk fan since 93 Darr/Baazigar days to till date
Karishma 😍
Anupama ma'am "growed up" :)
Please consider revisiting Rang De Basanti. I think it will be an interesting conversation
Absolutely a Karishma Stan ❤ even to this day
It was meant to be juhi madhuri clash kinda movie but it’s sad we never saw it in the 90s
Juhi wants to be in madhuris role...she don't want to be in second heroine
Sridevi, Manisha koirala, tabu, Urmila, kajol, sonali, Juhi Chawla, Pooja bhatt, raveena tandon, rani mukherjee we’re offered the film but rejected cuz they didn’t want to play supporting role to madhuri
Sridevi , Urmila , Raveena tandon , Pooja bhatt , Juhi chawla , kajol, Aishwariya , Manisha koirala , Priyanka every actress was offered the role of Nisha but opted not by not playing a fan fav character
Priyanka had not even started her career back then.
It was Manisha Koirala who was the original choice
Yash Chopra is a master behind the camera but with such thin storyline n predictable plot, only Shah Rukh Khan could save the movie and that's what he did.
100% Shahrukh and Kajol never had that sexual tension.. Madhuri and Shahrukh brought it out in eachother in the most subtle ways.. :)
The major problem which I had with Dil To Pagal Hai, is that unlike DDLJ or KKHH
1. there are very little effort in character building, and side characters including Farida Jalal, Aruna Irani, Anupan Kher, add nothing to the storyline (whereas side roles are fleshed out in DDLJ and KKHH)
2. there are no flow of events, and nothing actually happens in course of the film
3. the film is rooted in fantasy world ( as opposed to rose tinted ersion of reality in KKHH). Everything looks unreal from the core (including the skyline from windows to musical stage show thing to day trip to Europa Park in Germany).
Only good thing about dtph was guest appearance of akshay paaji 🔥💯
Dil Toh Pagal Hai is Love ❤️
Please do these retakes more often! These deserve multiple viewings, much like the films they talk about!
I just realised today that this movie came out when I was a months old kid 🤦♀️
Actress like Sridevi , Manisha koirala , kajol, raveena tandon , Urmila matondkar, juhi chawla , rani mukherjee, pooja bhatt , tabu , aishwariya rai and more
The promos and teasers of DTPH were path breaking.
The only revisit that matters... Only desi
#MadhuriDixit is the spine of the film. #DilToPagalHai #DTPH #25YearsOfDTPH #MadhuriDixitNene #25YearsOfDilToPagalHai
You need to do a Veer-Zaara retake
Basically Anupama chopra is trying to undermine Madhuri's performance and praising karishma , she didn't even mentioned once that madhuri was great or did great
Most romantic movie of 90's. ❤
