I don't know if fatty realizes that that crude raw voice of his is the main thing that got many of us hooked on NOFX. It made the band had a special identity, leaving aside the awesome riffs and smelly's awesome fast drumming. No wonder they are one of the top 10 punk bands.
Don't you dare judge your voice. This is a piece of the long NOFX history that we love.
I too enjoy the transition from raspy to melodic.
Came here to say this. Mikes voice is legendary even back then.
S&M was the first NOFX album I listened to. That album and Rancid got me into punk. I love S&M Airlines!
Hepatitis Bathtub was amazing. Thank you to all of you guys for reading your own chapters. I wish I'd found nofx earlier. 9-11 babies don't really have a punk scene in the west coast. Love you guys.
Where did they do their recordings? I'd like to hear that
Dude ya I'm about to read it again. Super fascinating
Dude, we’re our own worst critics and your voice is iconic! I saw you guys in Eugene, OR with Authority Zero and it’s kind of fuzzy but only a couple songs into the set, the crowd barrier broke and you guys were instructed to play your slowest song. I think for what seemed like 20 minutes, you guys played the same song over and over again. That was probably the funniest shit I’ve ever experienced at a concert and it was still one of the most memorable shows I’ve seen. Take care.
That is the hardcore voice that was retired when he recorded The Longest Line ep. Better now, not good back then.
The first time I heard this song I had it on repeat for a whole day, no pause... made me want to play bass like Fat Mike, piece of history right there
I love these stories Mike. Keep it up
Can’t wait to see you guys this weekend for the eleventybillionth time!!
I haven't listened to S&M Airlines since I was a kid. What a blast from the past.
As a Bad Religion and NOFX fan, I feel ashamed for not knowing that Greg did backing vocals in this song. Thank you for sharing this, Mike.
They say it on the “I am a huge fan of Bad Religion” song
How did i miss it?
Thank you for your beautiful voice and your good songs, I love you Mike.
It's important
That was awesome! You guys look so young! And so 90s! 😄
As for your voice, I always liked it, but I admit I think the way you're singing in later albums and how gritty your voice have become is better.
In general you're right. NOFX is like fine wine. The older you guys got the better you sounded. For me personally it was Pump Up The Valuume that converted me from a casual fan to a devoted one. Then War of Errorism made you my number 1 band. And it's been great album after great album ever since!
Which is kind of unique to you guys, I think, because usually bands have their best stuff at the beginning of their careers, then everything becomes more of the same shit but not as good... I can't think of another band like NOFX, who we got to see grow, mature and become better in real time.
Ahh Frenzal rhomb is another exception definitely aging very well!
80’s right?
I haven't heard this in like 10+ years but it's stood the test of time very well! Still sounds awesome.
Love these tid bits! Listened to this album non stop in 91 during high school 🙌🏽
I'm so glad you stayed the path and produced such gold for others including myself. Been a major listener of yours on Spotify being one of your top players for a few years now. Your music helps me every day do my job tasks and keep my sanity. I'm going to miss NOFX extremely!! Started to collect the vinyl records and hope to see an End of Days Collection released with all full catalog. Thank you for your music, your productions and presence. Can't wait to get back to Vegas and checkout the Museum.
Mike! There's no intro audio.
Would love more behind-the-band type stuff like this mike! This rules.
we need more of these stories Mike!
I can proudly say that the only original CD that I’ve ever purchased in my life is S&M Airlines by NOFX.
They should play it live but singing "I think I'll fly S&M Airlines again"
Just few days ago I found copied cassette of s&m airlines in my man-shed and listened it once again and it’s still good. Thanks!
You’re the best Mike. Tacoma was my first & only show. Been listening all ma life. Very informative video! 💪
C'mon Mike, the S&M Airlines is an awesome record. Perhaps one of the greatest of NOFX. It is crude, raw, aggressive, and ironic. At least I really, really like this album from top to bottom ('professional crastination', 'screamin' for change', 'mean people suck'...
Epic song. I’ve always loved it as well as the rest of the album. Riff laced and great to play along with.
I have the NOFX 10 Years of Fuckin up VHS on my living room shelf. Took me back to the days of watching that tape endlessly
Hell yeah! A commuter on S&M airlines would be sweet.
I just found out that you had a UA-cam channel! I’m stoked
I love this song, I love the album, it's a great demostration that can you guys do. Hi from Argentina.
I agree the singing got better and better through the years but no matter the record, NOFX always was and always will be my #1 💯
Yeah, NOFX most improved punk band, but also Gore Verbinski most improved film director
I have never seen this video before, good stuff. I like the energy. My favorite NOFX album as well.
Mike, I still listen to S&M Airlines (the whole album!) from time to time. It has its flaws, but it holds up. And yes, your singing is a lot better on latter albums, but it has this raw energy which I, for one, appreciate.
Love the video! Hope you share more NOFX memories Mike
🎶It was round trippppppp🎵
Good stuff. Keep ‘em coming please. Hoping for a So Long or Pump Up (my personal favorite) analysis one of these days! Thanks, Fatty!
Mike you changed my life for the better!!! Love you❤
“I’ll always fly S & M Airlines my friend.”
In 93 I bought Propaghandi's How to Clean Everything album. I listened to it as much as humanly possible, music never spoke to me before, until a friend had SM Airlines playing and it hooked deep into me. Now I'm pushing 50 still blasting NOFX daily. Thank you Mike, your voice sucks and it's perfect.
I love these videos. Keep making more.
Thank you for all your years of music and entertainment! Will miss your ear gravy stimulation after the end.
Dude it’s funny you said it was your kink and I always wondered when I read the lyrics as a young dude I was like I wanna fly that flight he’s gotta be joking. I’m glad you answered that burning question 😂😂😂 and the voice dude was the thing for me by the way ❤
Keep these vids coming. Good stuff.
one of my favorite nofx songs. first nofx bass part i learned by ear, awesome part
S&M Airlines album is so influential because it is so True, so real! A young Punk band doing fast dirty punk songs played well! I love it! You should play Drug Free America live before the end!
This was awesome!! I love your voice!
You are a genius. A pure gem.
My absolute favorite songwriter. So long and thanks for all the songs.
Loved yr vocals in this one. I just love that raw shit, getting the dopamine pumping ahaha
"You follow us around! We're not.. We're not the greatful dead!"
gore verbinski also played guitar and made the video for daredevils' song 'hate you', gurewitz post-BR EP thing (98ish). the video had to be the most expensive for a punk band up til that point, probably ever? not surprising he went on to big(ger) things based on that one. it's a doozy
This was perfect the way it was, voice, clothes, whatever Mike...it belongs to the great history that NOFX has, my (most improved) favourite band of all times! Thank you for such good songs! 🙏
I love this album and this era. The voice sounds good to me but I do recall when I was a kid listening to this my dad came in and said "Ugh that guy can't sing!" lol.
Keep them coming love it
First Nofx album that i've heard. Still love it.
My first and favourite LP from them s and m.airlines classic peace and love lloydy
Just like a good whiskey, Mike's voice really did get better with age.
Love your voice, Fatty. And the upcoming record, in my opinion, i'm no musician, is the best nofx album in since Coaster.
Loved your voice back then!
I love this song and what an amazing story.
That was the first NOFX I bought, my mom saw the cover and blushed LMAO.. great memory :)N
Always loved this video. 10 Years of F**kin’ Up!
Your voice is right for punk. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
mike you should react to more old songs. this is awesome
I’m a relatively new fan to your music and loved it!
As soon as you pointed out where greg graffin's bg vocal is it was very obvious. Can't believe i didn't notice. Seeing BR tonight in San Diego
I love this stuff...
Nice. Cheers, Mike. Enjoyed that x
it’d be cool to see you do a bass playthrough of this song and others like matt freeman did during the pandemic
Lets gooooo!
That's awesome! Mtv missed out, ooh well.
Thanks for the insight, man!
voice? your voice always been epic, thats the first thing that got me hooked on NOFX :)
MR.FAT can you please go over your thoughts and reactions to “War On Errorism”? Would love to know your updated thoughts
As soon as you said, "Greg Graffin!" I heard him quite distinctly. Funny, as I've listened to that song a million times since '91 when I got it, and never heard his voice in there. Oh, and your voice is always snotty/nasally, but cool, Mike... Peace! ~Evan
I'll probably die on this hill alone but S&M Airlines is probably your best album
those drums pop so hard in the mix
The director of the video also played bass with the band Daredevils with Mr Brett right?
Love the album and the track, damn!
More of this!
02.37 The Mexican with Brad Pitt, why is that funny Mike?
Awesome 👍🏻👍🏻
I always wanted to know about the ‘I’ll never fly bit’ so that’s cool
They have potential if they apply themselves. :)
S&M Airlines is so underrated, I think it is my favourite NOFX album
I dlove to ear melvin screaming Greg graffin 😂🤟🏼
awesome!!
This is so awesome
Can’t wait for the Florida date this month. Seen you like 7x but never in Florida.
You can't see it in the video but in the parts where the band is playing on the tarmac, Smelly used coat hangers as drumsticks. They talk about it on 20 Years of Fcking Up.
Had to go re lksten to it again to find Greg's vocals.
How wild is steve's hair metal solo 😅
Oh, man! What a song! That´s awesome AF!
I enjoyed this. Here's an inane comment for super duper engagement.
This was awesome
Play this one live on next years final tour???
Some RKL vibes in the intro
Maybe not the most improved but a more like a long slow "decline". Keep killing it Mike. You're an institution and a Pillar of Punk.
that's cool, do the entire videography
I thought he was frank caliendo when I first saw the thumbnail for this lol
I think, once NOFX has done with their final tour, Fat Mike should just spend his time on this podcast smoking a pipe, wearing his slippers drinking a scotch and telling stories and history of all the NOFX songs & other tales. I'd watch
Just found a copy of S&M airlines at a CD exchange. 👍
