Another great game like FUGA that I’m not going to be able to experience because I don’t throw money away for digital games. If digital games were significantly cheaper than their counterparts then I’d consider it but as it is now … I’m screwed. I’ll just miss out
The reason it has those mobile game battle pass quirks is because this is actually a compilation/remake of the first 2 megaton musashi games, the second of which was free to play. So they made the first game Megaton Musashi, then they made a free to play sequel called Megaton Musashi X(pronounced cross). Then they compiled the two game's contents and added more story and features on top to make Megaton Musashi W.

I bought it at full price cause I didn’t take advantage of the sale. Buy it. It’s great! From the skill tree being parts, moves, and skills for your rogue and its motherboard (yes the mecha motherboard is where all the base skills and moves stem from per mech). There is alot to do so why not enjoy both? (I am like 20 hours in and love the OG mecha being in the game ie. Getter Robo and Mazinger Z

It's such a good mecha game that deserves way more attention. It was worth at full price so for anyone on rhe fence because of the 50% discount, you should definitely grab it. It also has quite a lot of content.

This reminds me that i need to finish daemon ex machina, front mission, into the breach, and 13 sentinels. Glad there is some much mecha available but wish i had the time to finish them.
I downloaded this when you first mentioned it the other day, and I’m scared to play it, because I have other games that I’m invested in and I know I’m going to drop them if I touch this 😂
A few clarifications. The battlepass and logins only gives you bonus resources that you earn normally in the game and the game is not stingy with them at all. You don't need to be online to use the battlepass, logins or daily achievements on the switch version which is great. There are no online only items in the game. There is a separate pvp only mode that has it's own completely separate profile and progression. The game has some dlc, but no microtransactions at all.
Picked up the deluxe edition largely on the strength of this review. Very happy with it so far, though the sheer range of options is a bit overwhelming. Love the music in the game, and it's pure hack and slash fun

Sounds like the battle pass doesn't rob anything from the core game. Battle pass is a way to give extra support to a game you enjoy and get some cool things with it.

This game rules! I bought it near launch time on eShop, I'm just getting around to it this past week. I'm about 8-10 hours in and I love it. It may be a little repetitive, but it does make you feel good and powerful. I think of it like part- Armored Core, and part-Diablo, since the game is high-octane mech battles, but the mechs you build are constructed of loot drop items, most of which offer cosmetic changes and incremental tweaks. The treasure-box passes and online play attractions are a little bit of a jarring 4th-wall break but it still offers me the feeling of participating in a super-robot anime series. Also, it simply wouldn't be a Level-5 3d-engine game if it didn't have wild layers of customization and gameplay tweaks to engage in. As Dark Cloud had town building and Rogue Galaxy had it's inventory-based skill trees, Musashi has it's loot drops, the motherboard, the lab dev skill tree, and pilot skill investments on top of everything else. Rich amounts of optional content to feed into a dozen different reward loops is par for the course for Level-5 especially in the Ni No Kuni games and Rogue Galaxy.

Well this popped up in my feed rather late, its nice to see people actually finding out about this game's existence since I've been a fan of this franchise for a couple of years and its sad that Level 5 doesn't really bother promoting their games in the west anymore this is a great little review of it and ill leave you with a fun fact! While the first 2 versions of this game were coming out, Level 5 was also producing an anime along side it that released in 2 seasons over the course of 2021 to 2023, the game fatefully recreates the story with both styles of cutscenes (the more visual novel ones and the actual anime used as cutscenes) and is in my opinion the better way to expirience the full story

I play GB series since the first one on PS Vita. And even the locking look the same. Maybe i should take before the last GB4 came out 😅 + i luv Level5 so it could be awesome even if i wait their new Fantasy Life too 😭
They're fine. I saw the review on NL and while I agree the placement is a bit annoying it hasn't been a huge issue. Plus you have ABXY rear buttons that took about five minutes to learn. There's also a bonus A button just to the right (and left) of each joystick. Mark

Excellent review! I am agreeing with most of it. Great game! For performances though, I would deduct 1 additional point as when like 4 medium size enemies are thrown at us, the game goes down to like 15fps, and it slowly gets better as we beat the enemies on screen. I would also deduct 1 point for the fact that we cannot sort items. We can filter but not sort, which makes us lose a considerable amount of time. They really need to add that in a next update!
You can, though? Just press the left trigger (or whatever equivalent depending on what platform you're playing - it's shown on the bottom right in the parts/weapon/mods/item lists) and you get sort options, like type, color, availability etc.
It is such a shame that tge physical version of this in playasia is not localized. Would have been an insta-pick. Awesome video as ever guys, keep up the great work!
Been enjoying the hell outa this game. Love the gameplay and storytelling design. Level-5 cracked the code on how we could finally get a Macross game that covers all eras, mechs and story arcs.
Superelectromagnetic yo-yo!? That mech was already giving me Combattler V vibes, and I appreciate the call back. Game looks awesome. But dammit I literally just dropped money for Gundam Breaker 4!
This should've been heavily marketed on the Philippines. I think people would get a kick out of a playable Voltes V and Combattler V (even if it seems like they're only skins).

Level 5 try really hard to make each game they develop into a media franchise. Yokai Watch is the only one I can think of that gained traction but it fell off later on and never reached worldwide Pokémon levels. I'm really interested in Deca Police and I hope they are still bringing it over

Because 18G is a bit of a chunk I'd love to shrink with a physical. -And... why did you have to mention Testuo from Akira? Now I won't be able to get it out of my head 😂
TL:DR "A more relaxing and Shonen Jump style Armoured Core or Daemon x Machina. OG Dreamcast vibes with modern presentations." Hammered it for a few days now..... If you like Musou and expecially if you like the PSP Gundam games, this is for you. It's fast, fluid, and fun. Crosssave too, but Switch edition ftw imo. The game has a weird vibe cos it's been made by super talented people, led by corporate return. It's part of a "franchise drop" of manga, anime, game, toys, and tat. It could port to mobile I'm sure. Japanese development does this a lot. So this is where all the inauthentic vibes come from. It's made by authentic people, led by people only concerned with return on investment. I'd recommended the deluxe edition currently at £29. There are heavy Gacha mechanics, somewhat mitigated by the deluxe edition. Upsides: You're playing custom a Gundam Robotech Mech Warriors -athon. It runs well and is affordable for once. The quality of the individual parts is shockingly good, especially if you have Japanese knowledge. Downsides are: Dismantling pickups into resources is hilariously awful. I have played for a few days, have 5000+ items and have to view and dismantle them from a 3 by 5 table. I have yet to meet a Japanese person that enjoys this also. English subs do not match what the Japanese language says. Humour is missed, all honorific s are ignored leading to creepy delivery of some lines. Even basic Japanese knowledge will increase your enjoyment immensely as the Japanese voice talent is, frankly, shockingly good. The NPCs man, I've never heard such beautiful NPS. It's lunacy! It's a more relaxing, and Shonen Jump style Armoured Core, or Daemon x Machina. OG Dreamcast vibes with modern presentations.
Rank 75, 100 hours in, skipped all the story bits. For me it's online PVE. Not the most alive, but always fun to take to dreadnaught missions with randoms.
I picked this up thanks to the sale and the whole thing feels like the creative team behind it wanted to pay homage to about a dozen different mecha anime all at once, and it's a delight. I'm also kind of tempted to buy some of the masses of paid DLC for the game because while £6 to have Jibanyan from Yokai Watch shouting at you in Japanese is definitely not a sensible purchase, I feel like Level-5 deserves a bit more of my cash for a game I'm enjoying this much.
I got the game weeks ago, and while I like the solo game, getting in multiplayer is a nightmare; basically online gameplay is close to non-existent unless there is a campaign.

It does have an anime with 28 episodes so yeah that checks out.

Excellent review! I am agreeing with most of it. Great game! For performances though, I would deduct 1 additional point as when like 4 medium size enemies are thrown at us, the game goes down to like 15fps, and it slowly gets better as we beat the enemies on screen. I would also deduct 1 point for the fact that we cannot sort items. We can filter but not sort, which makes us lose a considerable amount of time. They really need to add that in a next update!
You can, though? Just press the left trigger (or whatever equivalent depending on what platform you're playing - it's shown on the bottom right in the parts/weapon/mods/item lists) and you get sort options, like type, color, availability etc.
It is such a shame that tge physical version of this in playasia is not localized. Would have been an insta-pick. Awesome video as ever guys, keep up the great work!

Been enjoying the hell outa this game. Love the gameplay and storytelling design. Level-5 cracked the code on how we could finally get a Macross game that covers all eras, mechs and story arcs.

This should've been heavily marketed on the Philippines. I think people would get a kick out of a playable Voltes V and Combattler V (even if it seems like they're only skins).

Level 5 try really hard to make each game they develop into a media franchise. Yokai Watch is the only one I can think of that gained traction but it fell off later on and never reached worldwide Pokémon levels.

I play this yesterday around 5/6 hours and its blast the story progress looks like anime X manga panels
Also since the game will sometimes use cutscenes from the anime as well.

OMG!OMG! I could not wait for this review and bought it yesterday... and oh booooy is it a great game! It's like most of the mechs games I tried actually got good! Best mech game I've played In my 47years of life.
I must ask two things:
-Will there be a physical release? Because 18G is a bit of a chunk I'd love to shrink with a physical.
-And... why did you have to mention Testuo from Akira? Now I won't be able to get it out of my head 😂

If you like Musou and expecially if you like the PSP Gundam games, this is for you. It's fast, fluid, and fun. Crosssave too, but Switch edition ftw imo.
The game has a weird vibe cos it's been made by super talented people, led by corporate return. It's part of a "franchise drop" of manga, anime, game, toys, and tat. It could port to mobile I'm sure. Japanese development does this a lot. So this is where all the inauthentic vibes come from. It's made by authentic people, led by people only concerned with return on investment.
I'd recommended the deluxe edition currently at £29. There are heavy Gacha mechanics, somewhat mitigated by the deluxe edition.
Upsides:
You're playing custom a Gundam Robotech Mech Warriors -athon. It runs well and is affordable for once.
The quality of the individual parts is shockingly good, especially if you have Japanese knowledge.
Downsides are:
Dismantling pickups into resources is hilariously awful. I have played for a few days, have 5000+ items and have to view and dismantle them from a 3 by 5 table. I have yet to meet a Japanese person that enjoys this also.
English subs do not match what the Japanese language says. Humour is missed, all honorific s are ignored leading to creepy delivery of some lines. Even basic Japanese knowledge will increase your enjoyment immensely as the Japanese voice talent is, frankly, shockingly good. The NPCs man, I've never heard such beautiful NPS. It's lunacy!

Rank 75, 100 hours in, skipped all the story bits. For me it's online PVE. Not the most alive, but always fun to take to dreadnaught missions with randoms.
Looks great but my backlog is already too massive. Adding it to my ever growing Wishlist.

I picked this up thanks to the sale and the whole thing feels like the creative team behind it wanted to pay homage to about a dozen different mecha anime all at once, and it's a delight.
I'm also kind of tempted to buy some of the masses of paid DLC for the game because while £6 to have Jibanyan from Yokai Watch shouting at you in Japanese is definitely not a sensible purchase, I feel like Level-5 deserves a bit more of my cash for a game I'm enjoying this much.
I got the game weeks ago, and while I like the solo game, getting in multiplayer is a nightmare; basically online gameplay is close to non-existent unless there is a campaign.
How can you rip out the Earth's core and it still somehow sustain life?
