      Honestly, its what kept me enjoying every minute of the game, even the reused bosses.
      The music, artstyle, gameplay, the story and just how long it actually is.
      You think defeating orochi is the end but in truth its really, only the begining

    Actually, some characters who do know Ammy refer to her as female. Starting with the brush gods who call her "mother to us all", and Waka calling her "ma chérie" which is French for "my darling" in feminine form. Then princess Fuse's late husband's ghost (who senses souls but not bodies) sees her as a "fair maiden".

    As a Japanese person, I can find many reasons why this game deserves to be called Kami ge (the godly great game). One of them is that it evokes special feelings from our childhoods. The opportunities to experience the elements of traditional festivals are sadly becoming rarer and rarer. I really hope to bring my kids to experience them when I have the chance.

    There are 3 pieces of music in Okami I love and this is at least 2nd, probably 1st, competing with reset and Waka's theme. I think the reason I love is the timing of it, you just defeated Orochi in a huge battle built up from the beginning of the game and now you can just let everything go, just chill out and mess around with everyone.

    I loved this part of the game. It was just after a really hectic bunch of events took place in the game (flipping long boss battle) so darn it, I knew I was going to just take all the time I could to run around the village and enjoy the festival events and music. And saké.
    Even though this music seems pretty traditional Japanese, there is a bit of music in the song that sounds like "Cuckoo!" Kind of funny. :)

  • @ScientistCat
    @ScientistCat 11 років тому +1

    Usually, my key argument is princess Fuse's late husband, forgot his name. I remember that he was blind, but as a ghost could sense people's souls, and he "saw" Ammy as a "maiden most fair".
    Now that I think again though, we humans do tend to associate certain qualities with one gender more than the other. He could just be interpreting his impressions using a "mortal" reference frame, like Sakuya.
    It still begs the question of why the gods and Waka refer to her as female... gyah my head hurts XD

    Yeah, Issun actually says "Quick, Ammy, before your former self steals all the glory!" at the end of the first battle against Nechku.
    But the translators of Okamiden made it so that, when the protagonists meets "Shiranui", she's called Chibiterasu's "grandfather". That caused many to start thinking "AMMY IS SHIRANUI'S REINCARNATION AND DAUGHTER SO CHIBI IS HIS GRANDSON BWEH HEH"
    That didn't make the smallest bit of sense to me, until I watched that video and saw the comments.

    That's because it's just more convenient and respectful to call a god like Amaturasu a female. It's like how we tend to give feminine names to unknown or major things. Moby Dick is sometimes called "she" ("Thar she blows!"), many hurricanes are of a feminine name, and many valuable possessions are given a feminine name as well.

    Well that, and....Amaterasu in Japanese folklore is portrayed as and in fact, IS female. Gods of Japanese folklore have genders and are portrayed as being mostly human, hell, Izanami (The Kushi of 100 years ago) died giving birth to the fire god.

  • @GreenGuyGeno
    @GreenGuyGeno 11 років тому +1

    Technically, she's/he's genderless. Because Amaterasu is a god, and non of her/his actions really portray her/his gender, she's/he's genderless.
    Plus, it's canon, but go ahead and call her/him "she".

  • @ScientistCat
    @ScientistCat 11 років тому

    watch?v=GdZrQVkp9Tg Found some interesting information in those comments.
    Turns out Amaterasu and Shiranui are one and the same, she's indeed female in both incarnations (Amaterasu is the sun goddess in mythology, Issun even says that out loud when you first use Sunrise). It's just that, since Japanese pronouns aren't gendered, the translators used "he" whenever some ordinary human referred to her.

  • @GuardianAngelOfLight
    @GuardianAngelOfLight 11 років тому

    Amaterasu is not the same as canon. She, yes I said she, came from Shinto religion. It was a religion before the Japanese even knew anything about Buddhism. Perhaps you should read the Holy Kojiki.

    Sigh on every video there seems to be a gender discussion. Look All I'm saying is that, okamiden isn't personally canon. So shiranui (Which the name itself is another misconception... people think is different, but is just ammy's first incarnation.... it's still amaterasu) being referred to as chibiterasu's "Grandfather" doesn't mean a thing, because this was all written by a company who had nothing to do with okami's original developers "Clover studios"

    Does that mean people respect male entities less, or that males are less worthy of respect? Your argument would be valid if this game was, like Moby Dick, a European production.
    Plus, I've read that hurricane names alternate sexes.
    And if referring to a god as "she" is more convenient, why do Susano and Mr.Orange keep calling her a "he"?
    (hope I'm not sounding like a dick here, don't know you so I dunno how you're taking this, I wanna make sure I'm just trying to get a point across)
