Love the podcast, keep up the good work! Just wanted to point out that the 27th Phantom also has a horse named Hero; he's in episode 4 (A House Divided) of Defenders of the Earth. This does seem odd, but the writers of the cartoon probably weren't too worried about Phantom history.

Good point about a horse named Hero did feature in that one episode. Seems an outliner. Maybe it will be explained in the comic book, this is only four pages

"At the mercy of Ming the Merciless? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?" At least it's a little self-aware, I am a little wary of Phantom's weapons changing, as well as his gun holsters missing, but will be picking this series up regardless; Not many current options for Phantom in the U.S.

Thank you for your comment :)
Do you think Jermayn (one of the voices on the video) is onto something that it may be due to the worlds technology going missing?

@@Chroniclechamber I don't know how that would affect the existence of 1911 pistols; I don't mean that rhetorically, I just literally don't know, but even in the cartoon the Phantom was pretty different from what he is in the comic strip.

Guess time will tell if it’s explained in the comic book series or not. From memory the Dynamite Entertainment series, technology was crippled by Ming.

My main objection to the new series is that I hate the artwork of Jim Calafiore. I wish they'd gotten more of a traditional superhero artist like Jim Keefe, Paul Ryan, Mike Manley, Ron Frenz, Tom Grummett or whoever... I don't know, there are really plenty of good superhero artists out there. Jim Calafiore, IMO, is not one of them. Knowing that he's going to drawing all 8 issues of this considerably dampens my initial enthusiasm from first hearing that Mad Cave would be publishing a DotE series.

Appreciate your feedback. Can we ask what it is about Jim’s work you do not like? If you watch our review of issue one and the prologue it will give you an idea of his art. Hope you at least follow our reviews and allow it the option of changing his mind.
Paul Ryan has unfortunately passed but us phans have had the pleasure of enjoying his work for decades with his work on the newspaper Phantom stories and European Team Fantomen stories. A true gentlemen on top of his amazing work.

@@Chroniclechamber I don't know how I can be more specific. I just don't think Calafiore is a good artist -- at all, period. I've seen his work in lots of places before... he's been around for years, and hasn't gotten one bit better. It's just slapdash, sloppy and undetailed. The characters do not look heroic or handsome. There are, I'm sure, dozens of better artists who must be available for the same sort of page rate. I will probably read the whole thing anyway just to get the story, but it's a major disappointment to me. I would like to see these characters getting far better treatment. It's pretty obvious to me that Calafiore would never have passed muster with the King Features editors to draw one of the newspaper strips. Am I spoiled by the old masters like Dan and Sy Barry and Fred Fredericks? Maybe... but there ARE people working in current comic books doing work at that same level.

Appreciate your reply and going into detail on why you don’t like his style. Hope you still read the series.
btw slightly off topic but Alex Saviuk has just had his latest Team Fantomen story by Egmont published. It’s out in shops in Sweden this week.
