I found out about the exception handler through Skawo's videos. However they didn't show that these crashes can be achieved in the unmodded game.
Skawo is one of the developers of the ROM hack Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. He made two videos about this issue:

They credit the discovery of the second glitch to WRTP (now WLTP / 2, rip)
I will try to make this a weekly thing. I don't care about reception, I just wanted to do this.

Turns out you can perform both versions of this glitch on official hardware. I wonder how long it would take someone to crash the game from a fresh save…
I tried this on Wii U and it lagged the same way (So yea... it downclocks the CPU and GPU, and limits RAM and that stuff)

DUDE I'm not even joking my three younger siblings used to play this game all the time and we never understood why 1-3 just crashed one day. Years later I think we accidentally did that Yoshi glitch. That's actually kinda hilarious.

It's interesting that doing the glitch results in an ISI exception on Dolphin and a DSI exception on real hardware
Likely because the emulator is not accurate to real hardware. Minor errors in accuracy can cause differences like these. Emulators will become more accurate as they are developed.
That last one is a tinnitus simulator.

You would have to get to 4-Castle from a fresh save file though, since it's a speedrun. IDK if a cannon route to W4 would be faster than getting to a spot where you could do the koopa on stairs infinite lives trick.
There is no cannon to W4. Going to 2-3 for the koopa trick is slow. The best way is apparently staying in 1-1 using a 3-koopa pipe-walljump trick; see www.speedrun.com/nsmbwce/full_game#99_lives. It probably helps with Max% though.
@@thomas_yiu Oh, right. I figured going to 4-Castle was too slow even with a cannon, but I forgot that there isn't one. But I didn't know there was an infinite lives trick in 1-1, neat.
This type of crash can freeze your Wii.
I tried this and knew it was a bad idea. My heart exploded when the glitch happened.

Hey, this is actually helpful, I never knew about this before. I played a NSMBW mod that always crashes when trying to load the credits, maybe getting info about the error will help me solve it.

Well! Managed to get this on 100% real hardware, and somehow… no exception screen..! Music just looped, while the game was froze
You need to press a combination (home, +, -, +, -, 1, 2, 1, 2, A iirc) to get the exception handler to appear.

Because when playing lego Indiana jhones 2, after scaring away the 3d set of birds my game would beep and crash, i dont think ive ever waited long enough for the exception handleler to pop up tho

My MC on PS4 crashed on the same frame that the tnt blew up and it had a exeption and it freezed but there's no exeption handler on PS4 soooo..........

Processor is an IBM Broadway (a PowerPC 750CL) @ 729 MHz
GPU is an ATI Hollywood @ 243 MHz.
Both the CPU and GPU are sped up versions of the GameCube's CPU and GPU.
The Wii has 24MB of 1T-SRAM and 64MB of GDDR3 for 88MB in total.
IIRC, the Broadway has 64KB of L1 cache and 256KB of L2 cache
What world are you on on the yoshi crash?
That's 1-3. There aren't many levels with yoshi, and even less with low-hanging fruit, not sure if this can be reproduced in other levels.
@@thomas_yiu 6-4 can only be done with a rom hack replacing the Monty Moles with Koopa Troopas.

I find out that when the purple background show up is when a game crash
Actually it's not supposed to be a purple background. Real hardware shows the last frame of gameplay in the background. The emulator doesn't seem to be accurate as it instead shows a purple or magenta background.

Edit: we all know that loading no existent animations WILL crash any game that uses animations
There are games that have failsafes in case a non-existent animation tries to be played, But they usually only work in cases where the programmers misspell the Animation ID/Name

Pretty much the same, tremendous lag and a Crash (I tried it on Wii U) and probably the Exception handler still appears but i cant comfirm that because I didn't Crash it, only Lagged it for testing and 1-Ups

It is the error code. It shows where in memory the game crashes. No programming skills are needed.

@@thomas_yiu I noticed that the exception handler had FrameMemory 900008A0H on my older RVL-001 most of the time whereas my newer RVL-001 usually shows 9008F0C0H. Does your Wii have BootMii/Boot2? My older RVL-001 has Boot2. Both had 80359938H with (DSI EXCEPTION).

Yes of course! The footage around 6:16 is taken from a real Wii. The crash handler is in the game as a debug tool.

Yes. Error code might be different depending on your Wii. My older RVL-001 shows a different error code than my newer one. I don't know about Wii U.

Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die".
BUT, mercy said "I dont want to give them what they deserve. I don't want them to be cut off from Me. I love them despite all they have done/will do against Me. I want to give My children another chance. I want them to come home and live in My love again".
And love said "Jesus, God's Son, came down as a Man, our representative, suffering every temptation, pain and struggle we have ever faced, yet without sin. He took all our sins (past/present/ even future) to the cross and then crucified EVERY ONE on our behalf. Justice was paid on the cross so that we can be free from Hell's punishment, experience Gods mercy of forgiveness of sin and live in His love. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (turn away from our sin and pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to obey His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, or struggling or doubtful, simply be honest and tell Him that. He is not intimidated by ANY sin or struggle you are facing. ANY. He hears and will answer. If we pray for Him to come in, regardless of the condition, then He will.
NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER.
