Hi Hard work by hand is really the only answer to getting the results that you will truly be happy with & yes I have done the same as 10 year’s ago & im still very happy with the results
I'd recommend just getting them sandblasted if you want a really amazing final product. You can prep by taking the parts off and cleaning them in advance. Otherwise you'll be sanding for days.
it's good to see you back on the project! I will watch closely your progress and I admire your bold approach to smoothing the design of rear suspension. this black discolorations it is not corosion but carbon, you can use an acid based cleaning compound to dissolve mineral contamination. Good luck!
Sandblast the cover would be most effective. The brown stuff on the inside is just oil that dries up after years of operation. Every (older) engine has it.
hi Josh how are you? my name is Bilal its been already a year that I watch your videos, I had the chance to buy a bmw K100 and I am currently seeing your tutorials to dismantle the cycle part of the motorcycle to be able to repaint it and redo the cycle part like jose lourenco I would like to know if you have the plans of the bike to be able to create parts with the dimensions for the skating and I would like to know where I can buy a reverse fork suitable for the K100 frame for a small budget thank you josh you did a wonderful job see you soon Bilal
Hey brother to answer your question I believe that is permatex Indian head gasket sealant, all the old-timers used that stuff and love it, if you don't already know...
Suggestion for next time - might be easier to have the paint shop sand blast the valve covers. Cleans the surface and gives it enough texture to take the paint.
Hi Josh, are you oké man? Still waiting on the next video but I don't want to look selfish. Dont know if you're able to make / upload a new one. But i do know that you've made lot's of people curious to see progress. Love to hear the reason behind this. Greeting from Holland 🇳🇱 | | X | | | | X | | | | X | | Amsterdam
Looks really good, I'm kind of late to the party here but are the solidworks drawings from the cafe racer bible accurate in terms of dimensions or is it an approximation we are supposed to tailor their designs to the frames as you have done?
Really enjoying watching the progress - thanks so much for sharing! I know how much longer everything must be taking when you have to stop, set up your camera, check the focus, do some work, check the camera again, etc etc! I bought the Café Racer Bible from the Retrorides guys and am 100% with you in terms of the 'engineered' flat look on the rear suspension. It looks great, but could look fantastic! Love the idea of smoothing those elements out - how far did you get with that? Would love to see how you changed things up. Merry Christmas!
Hi, super project !! Im building a K100 too and i'm searching the cad files of rear suspensions of retrorides i think your link is no longer avaible on turbosquid, can you send me the CAD file ? thank you in advance for your help sry for my english, im french ! ;)
I’m searching my K100 base to build custom. Once I find it I’ll also buy the Bible with cad drawing from L brothers. Will you share with us the surface modelled drawings once we also have the rights to “solid” ones?
@@CURV-LAB Hey, could You share a CAD model which You have drawn with SW according the scanned k100 frame model??? Would be thankful, I want to design some things according the org frame too :D. And if I understand correctly in these link the org k100 frame model isnt added, yes?
Nice video, man. I just tore into my own ‘85 K100 last night (pulled off the entire wiring system). You gave up on “the cheap cleaner” and “bought the good stuff from Amazon”. Care to share?
newby design the link leads me to a generic page search for motorcycle frame models? I don’t see any for a K100. Is there something wrong? I’m doing the same build as well with a ‘88 K100
Hi, are you designing a stretcher in your video? Is there a draft of the rear shock absorber lever? I want to cut it myself, but I can not find information on the size of the part. Thanks.
If you could pass on what you learned last episode it would be sharing the cad data for the frame, it would save me first buying one and remeasuring the frame, please consider chucking it onto grabcad thanks and good luck
@@CURV-LAB Hi! I like your build. Watched all your videos. Hoped to find what have you made with the rear suspension. I am building a newer version a K1100 and the same suspension would fit there aswell. In what terms i could get the hole patterns/measurements in a dxf file or something like that. If you could write to me @ tanel565[at]gmail.com. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I'll be posting episodes more regularly now. Ah ok, good to know thats just carbon.
Duuuudee nice. Didn't watch it but like it already! Please keep them coming!
very nice video and the way the project is going.
Good quality !

Like some already said, sand blasting would be most efficient and it also roughs the parts up for paint.
Hey brother to answer your question I believe that is permatex Indian head gasket sealant, all the old-timers used that stuff and love it, if you don't already know...
you should bead blast these covers , you will get an excellent finish and it is fast !
Suggestion for next time - might be easier to have the paint shop sand blast the valve covers. Cleans the surface and gives it enough texture to take the paint.
boxster1990 yea, strongly considering that given how long the valve cover took
I love your work ❤️ keep up 💪 from Algeria 🇩🇿 with Love
look into vaporblasting.... it's better than sandblasting.... comes down to the sands used for blasting.
Nothing more effective in cleaning metals than Sandblasting
Vapour blasting is the best
Definitely sandblast it next time. Not only time saver but also money saver in some cases.
Build a vapor blast cabinet, aluminum parts come out amazing

For wire brush, try brass instead of steel.
That’s a varnish that builds up in the engine

long sleeves trousers and welding gloves are your friends
woow nice job..........why didn't you glassblast these parts? there are good cheaps DIY glassblast sets on the market.

why go through polishing head cover if you are painting it?

Thank you. Yea, Brakleen makes a few different versions. I accidentally got the green non-chlorinated can, ordered the red stronger Brakleen formula.
👏 good
So nice!
Still possible to get the CAD Model?

No
congratulations for the project, really amazing.
