I agree, the trigger feel is the only disappointing thing about this platform. I like the weight of it, but there's two distinct walls, grittiness, and a long reset with a little bit of over-travel. What I did was polished the components (25 ct trigger job) and it feels much smoother and better. So much better that I wished it came from the factory that way. I highly recommend doing the polishing. Night and day in feel. The reset is still long, but at this point I can more than live with it. Trigger pull is butter now though.
Better stock sights, better recoil control due to lower bore axis, better frame geometry, better optics mounting sytem, etc, etc. If a stock gen 5 is all you can afford then do it, but if you sink the 400 extra dollars you saved into that glock down the road, you won't even come close to the feature set the MR has out of the box.
Was this worth purchasing? When I say that, i mean did it leave you wishing you had got something else? I'm asking because I'm downsizing my collection and looking for a good EDC/Training pistol to fill my needs. The mr920 elite seems like a nice option but there's always talk about trigger feel and how it's just an expensive Glock that could be had for less. I can get my hands on a New MR920 for less than 900 at this moment.
I just got the same pistol, except the collaboration version between shadow systems and The Warrior Poet with a Holosun 507c v2. I love it so far. I just put 250ish rounds through it to get through the break in period. I had zero failures, but also experience the larger of the two pins seems to come out a bit toward the left side of the gun. I can easily push it back by hand. I’m curious to see how the trigger breaks in, because it’s honestly not as good of a trigger feel as I was hoping. I may eventually opt for an Apex trigger or some other variant. Other than that, it’s an amazing pistol.
The pin shouldn't walk out like that. Mine takes significant pressure to take out. As with the trigger - yeah - it needs work. I polished mine (25 ct trigger job) and it's so much better. I suggest you do the same if you want to keep the stock trigger and not have to "upgrade" from it.
Nice, to the point vid. I'm looking at the "War Poet" special edition that I believe is based on this model, with some tweaks. Since there aren't any real reviews out of that one yet, figured I'd watch this one for a good gauge of how it'd do.
Can you please tell me how you attached the light? Did you need to avoid using any of the included "keys" that go in the middle? When I use those keys, light won't sit flush.
I have 200 rds through mine. If the trigger does not feel better after 200 more rds. Going to try an Apex. I shoot Walther, and Canik most of the time. The trigger is the only thing holding this gun back.
I just picked up my new mr920 elite yesterday and I notice the slide to frame fit is pretty loose from the front end. The front end of the slide wobbles from side to side if I induce it. Is this normal for shadow systems quality control?
My mr920 combat has the same slide to frame slop when pushing the slide down into the frame making a loud chatter sound. Its an abnormally high amount of slop/play compared to my other handguns from glock, SIG, and canik and none have had this amount of slop. I also experience many double feeds and fail to eject issues. Have you tested yours out yet? I've also seen a few others experiencing the same issues but you have to dig through many videos to find the comments. I can assure you as someone who owns many glocks and other brands they have barely any slide to frame slop and most are extremely tight. Not sure if shadow systems is using the looseness as a good thing comments as an excuse or what at this point but pretty sure I got a lemon.
Go to the hardware store and get new o rings. The o rings are there to keep the thread protector from rolling. If you shoot suppressed you'll need new o rings anyway. Trust me. They are inexpensive, less expensive than a new thread protector.
Hey man good vid...i just ordered a tier one axis elite. I speced it for TLR7 then I went to mount my TLR7 and it didn't fit well (too far out from trigger gaurd) so I ordered the TLR7A. Did you have to modify anything to get that fitment or does it mount up like you have it with supplied keys? Also I emailed Tier 1 to notify them of the change keeping my fingers crossed it all jives
I didn't have to do anything to mine. The 7A in the video actually had the glock adapter installed out of the box so it was just plug and play. I'd make sure that little adapter isn't backwards in the light.
I thought I had the same issue as you with my tlr 7, my buddy came over to help me with a rifle I’m working on and while he was here I had him look at it and he put it on just fine and it went all the way snug to the trigger guard using the Glock adapter key. Not sure why I couldn’t get it on right but he literally did it in 2 seconds haha
Could you tell me what light that is and what mag is that? Thanks just bought one myself and really like the look and size of that light.. oh one more which model of holster is that.. thanks great video short and to the point
The mag just looks like the normal PMAG they come with, might be a 17rnd tho instead of a 15 looks a tad longer. Or mabey since he doesn't have the Magwell on Looking at mine right now, the exact setup
@@shultz550 yeah, that's actually part of the reason they went with pmags, the extra length helps to rip mag out during a double feed or other similar malfunction
No. You can obtain an MR920 Elite without an optic cut. Shadow Systems offers all types of configurations for both "Combat" and "Elite" models. Threaded barrel? Optic cut? FDE/Black frame? Gold or Black Barrel? Any mix/match combo you want, they offer. If you want to be sure you purchase one with an optic cut, make sure it has one, even if it is an "Elite" Model. The only difference between the two models are the slide window cuts and top serrations - that's it. An "Elite" doesn't mean you have an optics cut. You can have Combat's with optic cuts and a threaded barrel too. For example. Here's an "ELITE" WITHOUT the optics cut: UPC: 810013431582 SS_1008 Here's a combat with the optics cut, threaded barrel, fde: UPC: 810013431681 SS_1018 When you go to purchase an MR920 online (or any handgun with multiple configurations) ALWAYS confirm all specs and details using the UPC code (and confirming it with Shadow if you are not sure).
Great review, thank you for your time. Really appreciate you Kenny! I'm currently running a G19 Gen5 MOS w/ RMR 06 and TLR8-AGreen. Love the features of the MR920 and am seriously considering one. 1) any further reliability issues? 2) thoughts on the Elite vs Combat model for EDC and home defense? I'm not concerned about the price difference, rather more concerned about reliability. 3) what Blade Tech OWB holster did you go with that also accommodates the TLR7? Thx! -Nat
Thanks Nat. 1) No further reliability issues to speak of. To be frank, the ones I mentioned in the video were more nitpicky than anything. None affected the performance of the pistol in any way. Range ammo and Defense ammo run just fine in any situation I've encountered. 2) I think the Elite vs. Combat decision is personal preference more than anything, especially considering you can get a Combat with an optic cut. If I was going to order a pistol straight from Shadow, I would get an Elite without a threaded barrel, but since the standard config for dealer models is threaded, that's what I had to go with. Having shot a 918 combat/elite and owned a 920 elite, I saw no reliability/shootability difference between the two models. I've been really impressed with how comfortable the 920 elite is when carrying it appendix, and I would venture to guess the combat is the same experience. 3) In regards to the bladetech, the one I have does not accommodate the TLR, as I originally got it to shoot USPSA production with a Glock 34. I continued running that holster with the 920 as lights aren't allowed in Carry Optics division of USPSA.
You mentioned you shot the MR918 prior to getting the MR920. Is there any difference in feel/performance. I’m thinking I like the look of the 918 a little better and am considering picking up one of those while I can. Or would it be better to just get the updated 920? Great video by the way!
If none of the "convenience" features of the 920 stick out to you, and you don't need the versatility of the new optic cut, a 918 is a totally valid option. You aren't giving up any mechanical functionality by going with the older model.
Kenny W thank you for the quick response. Not sure that the upgrades are that important to me. I just wasn’t sure if one felt better than the other in regards to shooting or carrying. Thinking I like the look of the 918 a little better.
@@99Ironside I haven't carried a 918 so I can't comment on that, but after shooting both, the 920 isn't drastically different in any way from the 918 as far as shooting performance or ergonomics is concerned. You're not really losing anything besides exterior refinements if you buy a 918. It's your call if those refinements are worth a couple hundred bucks extra or not.
@@patrickcotter945 To the best of my knowledge the only thing different trigger-wise on the 920 is an updated firing pin safety plunger, and maybe a little more polish work on the nub that actuates it on the trigger bar. No drastic difference.
Still zero issues. It's been my carry gun since I bought it in March of 2020. I haven't shot it a ton in comparison to the round count I had on it when I put this video out, I'd approximate 2500 total as of today, 12-23-21. I haven't had a malfunction in that entire period. Changed the batteries in my light/RMR a couple times, and replaced my carry ammo with fresh stuff every couple months. That's it.
Now that you’ve had some time with it...... I’ve really been contemplating getting one. The cheapest I’ve found is $989. Not sure what you paid but would you say it’s worth the $989 in your opinion?
Hey man. Thinking about buying one of these. Quick question if you can help me. I read on their website they suggest +p ammo through these. Did you stay true to that? Or kinda just shoot cheap ammo that you could find?
Not at all. I'd say 80-90% of the ammo I've put through this has been cheap 115-124gr brass cased range ammo, especially now considering the state of availability on +P defense stuff. Zero gun-induced hiccups.
Manufacturers never "suggest" to shoot +p ammo. They only state that it has the ability to. This is very important if you happen to like the expensive (and more effective) defensive rounds but for training, it's always the cheap stuff, otherwise you're just wasting your money.
AnonyPersona I can see directly on shadow systems website where it says and I quote “Use only the highest factory ammunition. Your pistol is designed for use with +p ammunition, but do not use ammunition marketed as +p+ as there is no SAAMI designation for +p+. Budget priced and/or reloaded ammunition can suffer from quality control issues and result in degraded performance and reliability.” That’s why I asked Kenny the simple question.
@@chasecampbell7840 Yeah, I think you misinterpreted their statement. No biggie. when they state "highest factory ammunition," they mean factory quality ammo - not highest pressure ammunition. Any weapon manufacturer will tell you to avoid reloads and re-manufactured ammo... Doesn't mean that you should or have to. It's more of a liability statement than anything else.
Why would you want something more expensive lol. The shadow has all the bells and whistles, and is phenomenal. Absolutely no reason to spend 2k on something else, won't get any better performance. At all. Personal opinion, but I've shot plenty of high end "Gucci Glocks" like Zev ECT and the Shadow is where it's at hands down for me
@@mrdark9916 I really wanted to grab a Tri Arc or Stacco but they are more expensive, It's not about it being more expensive I was thinking of just spending that extra cash to grab something I really like, But I ended up staying with the MR920. Been conceal carrying ever since, Amazing pistol honestly. I love it, Couldn't have made a better decision. I'm sure I would really enjoy shooting a Staccato but the MR920 is still a solid pistol, At the end of the day training is all that matters.
How is your gun holding up? How is the barrel wear I am just curios? I have been to 3 range outings and I have a lot of finish wear aside from that super accurate.
I have a black barrel and yeah - it wears very quickly. Shiny metal is on the top of the chamber (two marks). Barrel shows some wear but not nearly as bad as top of the chamber.
That whole pin walking thing is what got me off Glock. Lost my trigger housing PIN somehow. VPN has steel roll pins that WILL NOT come out and P320’s are basically pin-less on outside of frame. It’s a thing.
I don't really think so. I did find myself getting pulled to it out of habit the first few mags through the gun but it's easily remedied with training.
Nah the dot is floating above it, I often don't even notice my sights at all unless I look for them, in which case you have a very generous co-witness when wanted.
The geometry is definitely affected by the backstraps. I wouldn't say it's a lot smaller but between the largest and smallest backstraps there is a noticeable difference in feel and grip angle.
No. It's just a stock 920 elite. The war poet has some other proprietary branding and milling. Pretty sure all of them have a black anodized barrel as well.
I haven't been able to run more than a mag or two through this thing with a can on it (friends suppressor), but I didn't have any issues then. I wouldn't think it would be an issue, but a 9" pistol can on a compact poly frame handgun is comically unbalanced.
@@KW-ct3sk I've just always thought the way glocks are constructed makes them a great firearm just problematic when it comes to being suppressed and was wondering if this company focused on that. Thanks for your feedback.
Perfectly. I prefer the lower one-third co witness. I don't like the sights blocking too much of the window. This doesn't block the window but just allows enough to co witness.
If you're referencing the sights that come on the gun, yes, it's a lower 1/3rd. If you're talking about stock glock height sights, I'm not sure. I'm assuming you could probably still see at least the top of the sights, but I don't really intend to test that.
Thanks for the meat n taters review Kenny. I recently bought one on BDU. I can't wait to get my hands on it. I want to through an RMR on there as well. How do you like that Streamlight?
So far it's a fantastic light, especially for the money. I paid 120 bucks for it to my door. Considering the XC1 from surefire is more than double that for half the light output, I'd buy the streamlight any day of the week.
It's a "Glock clone." Many companies essentially are copying Glock (with their own tweaks/tricks/improvements). Zev is also considered a Glock clone. Both Shadow and Zev make their own guns in-house but are both based off the Glocks, but they are not technically "Glocks" strictly speaking.

I know this is an old video but would you happen to still have the magwell or any other parts? I have the MR920 Combat. Thank. you.
Great review!! I’m currently waiting on mine to transfer in.
Really enjoyable review, well done.
Love my MR920, what model Bladetech holster do you use.
I’m so glad I got this gun over the Canik tp9
Very well done and articulated!🇺🇸🤘🏽
Love the review Boss 🏄🏻
What holster are you running ?
Thanks dude. This should be a pretty good representation, both of them are functionally identical.
You need more subs. Just got one more! Ordered my war poet. Very excited!
Mine is on the way.. Thanks for the video!
Can you please tell me how you attached the light? Did you need to avoid using any of the included "keys" that go in the middle? When I use those keys, light won't sit flush.
Outstanding review brother.
So far I'm 200 rds in and hoping the trigger smooths out. It's really spongy
I have 200 rds through mine. If the trigger does not feel better after 200 more rds. Going to try an Apex. I shoot Walther, and Canik most of the time. The trigger is the only thing holding this gun back.
Do you have to take off the tip that goes in the thread to shoot the gun
I just picked up my new mr920 elite yesterday and I notice the slide to frame fit is pretty loose from the front end. The front end of the slide wobbles from side to side if I induce it. Is this normal for shadow systems quality control?
That's normal for pretty much all glock pistols. Doesn't hurt anything.
I sold mine and stuck to my glock!
@@christophersok9551 I'll likely be doing the same 👍
Go to the hardware store and get new o rings.
That is a Streamlight. TLR7
The mag just looks like the normal PMAG they come with, might be a 17rnd tho instead of a 15 looks a tad longer.
Or mabey since he doesn't have the Magwell on
Looking at mine right now, the exact setup
@@mrdark9916 after I got mine out and looked I realized that I didn't think those mag pul mags stuck out that much.. thx for reply
@@shultz550 yeah, that's actually part of the reason they went with pmags, the extra length helps to rip mag out during a double feed or other similar malfunction
I have this gun with a RMR 06 on it. I can only put the best on a high end pistol like this.
where did you purchase yours? and what flashlight and red dot are you using
Question, with most Glocks I have a tendency to ride the slide release so it never locks open. Any issues with the MR?
Thanks for the video do all elite models come with optic cut?
Yes. The Combat models are available with an optic cut as well but it's not standard.
Here's an "ELITE" WITHOUT the optics cut:
UPC: 810013431582
SS_1008
Here's a combat with the optics cut, threaded barrel, fde:
UPC: 810013431681
SS_1018
When you go to purchase an MR920 online (or any handgun with multiple configurations) ALWAYS confirm all specs and details using the UPC code (and confirming it with Shadow if you are not sure).
I have the Gen 5 19 and the elite
Imo I paid more for elite because wanted the slide cuts
I have both. Only put about 100 rounds through it. So far, I like my Gen 5 trigger better. Hopefully it will smooth out.
Good solid review... Thanks!
"you got to be pretty stupid to let this thing fall off"
2weeks ago at the range
Me: hold my beer.
took 45 minutes to find it.
@@KW-ct3sk but I thought the trigger was improved on the 20?
@@patrickcotter945 To the best of my knowledge the only thing different trigger-wise on the 920 is an updated firing pin safety plunger, and maybe a little more polish work on the nub that actuates it on the trigger bar. No drastic difference.
Hey man. It’s been a year. Any issues the the gun?
Still zero issues. It's been my carry gun since I bought it in March of 2020. I haven't shot it a ton in comparison to the round count I had on it when I put this video out, I'd approximate 2500 total as of today, 12-23-21. I haven't had a malfunction in that entire period. Changed the batteries in my light/RMR a couple times, and replaced my carry ammo with fresh stuff every couple months. That's it.
What grain do you recommend for self defense and range ?
Speer gold dot 124 grain or federal HST 124 grain. Can’t beat those.
I’m about 250 rds thru mine like it a lot going to mount my 508t tonight
I tried the mag well but run with out because it messes my grip up
When you say flat shooting are you saying someother pistols have more of an arc when you shoot them? Thank you for the info.
Generally that means recoil wise. The muzzle stays flatter after the round leaves the gun
And POI is at the top of front sight
What optic are you using? Great video
It's a Trijicon RMR in this video
How did you get your TLR7a to fit? I tried using the universal 2 plate but it’s def not flush to the trigger guard.
Did you figure this out?
Now that you’ve had some time with it...... I’ve really been contemplating getting one. The cheapest I’ve found is $989. Not sure what you paid but would you say it’s worth the $989 in your opinion?
Absolutely. It's everything a Glock should be out of the box. I haven't regretted the purchase at all.
Agreed.
I spent just over 1300 with tax for the Elite with a 507 C v2
It's the shit lol. Worth every single hour of busting my ass at work
Kenny W perfect. Thanks for the info brother. I ordered one today with the bronze slide. Looks sick
What ammunition have you used so far?
Debating on picking this up or getting something a bit more expensive, But everything else ends up over 1900$.
Just bought. Really like it for the money spent.
@@headshrink1 Finally got mines too, Absolutely love it. Still need to break it in though.
Tighten thread protector when hot. It will not loosen up.
Really good review.
I love the look of my xr920 but i wish it was a lil more accurate.
Which holster did you use that accompanies the light mount too?
6:30
My pins are walking out as well, same ones
Scuff it with sandpaper a little
Lots of FTFs during my break in period so far. More with daughter shooting it, so may be weaker wrists, but we’ll see.
That is precisely what causes FTFs aside from mag springs. If it didn’t happen with you then you have your answer.
@@MrMann-gt1eh still my best shooting 9
What kind of flashlight?
Streamlight TLR7a
Can you show your laser for the gun?
What is this gun going for? Can't find a price for it.
The 920 elite is hovering around a grand depending on the retailer you go through.
$800 to $1100. Easiest place to find them in-stock is gun.deals while searching "mr920"
1045
what holster are you running with it
How is your gun holding up? How is the barrel wear I am just curios? I have been to 3 range outings and I have a lot of finish wear aside from that super accurate.
Is your barrel black or bronze? It seems to me the black wears faster than the bronze.
U prolly lost it swapping out backstraps and for go t to put it back in . Ive done that b4 lol
@@kalanipitmon7817 Yep. It's NOT a thing.
Is that front sight distracting at all when using the red dot?
I don't really think so. I did find myself getting pulled to it out of habit the first few mags through the gun but it's easily remedied with training.
Nah the dot is floating above it, I often don't even notice my sights at all unless I look for them, in which case you have a very generous co-witness when wanted.
That thing looks bad ass
Guys keep talking about the back straps feeling like different model guns? Do you notice that the frame feels smaller than a 19?
The geometry is definitely affected by the backstraps. I wouldn't say it's a lot smaller but between the largest and smallest backstraps there is a noticeable difference in feel and grip angle.
Does the MR920 accept Glock or any other after-market mags? Or do you have to get mags right from Shadow?
accepts pretty much all glock mags
Uses glock mags. Shadow doesn't make mags for the guns, they provide glock aftermarket mags (Pmags).
They come with P mAGS and they work awesome. And are only $ 12 a pop. Which is phenominal.
Accepts all Glock mags tho
what is your sight attachment and flashlight
Trijicon RMR, Streamlight TLR7a
What light and red dot did you go with?
A Trijicon RM06 RMR, and a Streamlight TLR-7A.
anyone use this for conceal carry?
It’s the same as a Glock 19 in size, which is a great ccw
Nice review! Can't wait to receive mine. What holster is that? Thanks!
It’s an Agis Elite from Tier 1 Concealment. Easily the best appendix rig I’ve ever worn.
Great review, is this the war poet version?
No. It's just a stock 920 elite. The war poet has some other proprietary branding and milling. Pretty sure all of them have a black anodized barrel as well.
How is the co-witness with the stock sights?
It's a generous lower 1/3rd. No issues getting a solid sight picture through the RMR.
Study up. Don't co witness.
How reliable is it suppressed?
I haven't been able to run more than a mag or two through this thing with a can on it (friends suppressor), but I didn't have any issues then. I wouldn't think it would be an issue, but a 9" pistol can on a compact poly frame handgun is comically unbalanced.
@@KW-ct3sk I've just always thought the way glocks are constructed makes them a great firearm just problematic when it comes to being suppressed and was wondering if this company focused on that.
Thanks for your feedback.
nicely done!
Does the rmr cowitness with normal height sights?
Cowitnesses awesome with my 507C as well
I stay will Glock 👍🏻🇺🇸 great video
That's what I thought too. WRONG !
Nice review s%it were did my 1000 dollars go!? O what the hell 🤷♂️
How long have you been waiting from BDU? I order mine about 4 days ago . I hate waiting 😔
Is this a Glock or not?
Kinda
It's a "Glock clone." Many companies essentially are copying Glock (with their own tweaks/tricks/improvements). Zev is also considered a Glock clone. Both Shadow and Zev make their own guns in-house but are both based off the Glocks, but they are not technically "Glocks" strictly speaking.
No it's not.
It is not a "custom Glock"
It is a Shadow Systems and it is awesome.
Any one shoot crappy steel case out of one of these?
