    Thanks, this will be really helpful from here on in, at toe first tack stage, great to see where everything else fits in.

    This is a great video! I feel like I am always learning on my own, without any guidance. I see the many wing videos, but I can't quite decide on what to tackle next. I love the flow chart you did. It makes much more sense now. Cheers.

    Awesome video! I have gotten to toe side riding and some gybes here and there all just off of natural progression.
    But with this video, I’m excited to see where the rest goes.

    Love the progression chart. After 20 sessions, I’m jibing both ways but only able to foot switch in one direction. The big surprise for me was when I went from a 120 liter to a 78. Liter I almost immediately started hitting all my jibs. The smaller board made it much easier to stay on foil and ridingtoe side. Great video, i’ve watched hundreds of winging videos and this is one of the best. Larry

    I prone foiled for years before finally deciding to wing foil.
    While I wish I found this sooner, I am also kinda glad that I did all these things naturally.
    I think the BIGGEST success in winging is being able to taxi where you want. An injury or a gear failure or some issue may cause you to only be able to taxi somewhere.
    But once you land upwind of your launch spot, it’s a magical feeling.
    I learned to gybe by kinda pumping downwind and holding my speed and struggling with the wing to get it up and switch grip to go toe side.
    THIS is exactly where it begins to click and you under the beauty of it all. I went prone foiling the other day and hated it, because I reached the toe side skill in winging and can go where I want now.

    I got my tacking first before Heineken jibe. You should have made this video like a year ago. 😂
    Practicing tacking right after jibing was no fun. It took about 2 weeks on the water 2-3 hours and day and I lost about 2-3 kg during this time. Boy..boy.. it was hard especially on somewhat wavy environment 😵😵
    Looking back, I should have practiced Heineken & race jibe first before tacking.. Oh well...
    At least, my friends will suffer less now thanks to your guide like this.

      @Tobeon2 it is interesting that there are almost no videos at all prescribing how to progress and build on skills in the right order, which probably explains why this video is getting viewed so much.

    Love your foil test videos.
    Can you make an equipment/foil progression video for beginners going on to the next level. Is it possible skip medium aspect foil with the new HA foils. What are the best foil types for different types of surf conditions? Thoughts on one foil quivers vs two.

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  2 місяці тому

      yes it is possible to skip medium aspect with some of the newer HA foils that have good low end and don't demand a really good pump technique or very fluid gybes. I've only ever briefly had a one foil quiver when I first started, smaller foils are pretty much required when it gets windier, you can ride big foils in a lot of wind but it is much harder than riding a smaller foil.

    I put basic jump just after gibe and foot switch as it is actually very easy to do and provides lot of sensation :)

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      @vinc2488 The guide just prioritises sailing competence as a more valued skill but you are correct in that jumping could fit in anywhere once you can foil.

      @@Wing-Tips does jumping require a rear footstrap? that's what I thought and even though I can do both tacks, riding in a rear footstrap is hard for me and that's why I didn't even try jumping

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      @@bstr77 I would not advise trying jumps without a rear strap, some big crashes likely and potential wing damage. A smaller board makes riding in the rear strap easier, I hated riding in the rear strap on my 80L, on my 60L I don't mind it at all.

      @@Wing-Tips thanks, that might be the case as I am on 5'8 midlenght board

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      yeah very likely, longer boards are much more sensitive on the back foot than a shorter board. Your only real option is to try get the back strap as far forwards as possible so it is less sensitive to your weight and then it's just getting used to riding with a wider stance. On a very short board the back strap is never that far back so your stance stays very similar to your normal stance.

    A flow chart. Thats awsome! - Do you think there is merit in learning to taxi toe side to get some of the muscle memory for foil toe side?

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      @cslimey depends on the board, taxiing toe side can be very difficult as there is so much more drag on the board. If it is a longer, thin board you may have some success, otherwise I'm not sure it will help as the issues with toe side are mostly to do with weight distribution to continue to foil with a secondary element of overall flexibility at the waist / hips. Some home stretching exercises may be useful if you find the twist difficult.

    great flow chart. love it ❤ i'm still struggling with the gybe after 25 sessions. does this mean i have no talent? or a wrong mindset? or wrong material? cant tell, but when on the foil eveything feels so quircky that i even dont dare to move my feet not to loose balance. gnaaah😢

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      The gybe is all about foiling (not wing transition) and is directly followed by riding toe side. Do you fall whilst doing the turn or do you fall after the turn when you try to engage toe side riding. This is important because it may be that your gybe is fine and the issue is your toe side riding. Identifying which problem you have will allow you to unlock the issue and progress. For many people they identify that they can't gybe when they can gybe just fine, they just can't ride away in toe side. If you fall in the gybe then my gybe video may help, if you fall trying to ride away in toe side then check my toe side video as it is quite unique and there are very few videos like it.

    just one question, what is the wing drag 360

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      @Laurent_67 it's when you touch a wing tip on the water as you go downwind and it creates a pivoting motion that helps you round the 360

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      @kountchev1 definitely something to work on as it is a very useful light wind jibe. It is fairly easy to do and stops you running into your wing during the jibe....the biggest issue for the basic jibe.

    Hello thanks for your videos !!!
    Do you think it is interesting or necessary to know how to navigate switch stance on both sides?
    I have been practicing wing foiling for 2/3 years. I have mastered Jibe on both sides for quite a long time.
    I pass the Tack from my siwtch stance position quite well when the conditions are good.
    From my heelside position, I have more difficulty passing the tacks.
    I'm just starting to try the "small" jumps.
    My natural position is Regular. I am good at reversing my feet and sailing in Regular swtich stance.
    On the other hand, I can't navigate swtich stance goofie at all.
    I wonder if it's worth it or not to know how to navigate swtich stance on both sides.
    When I try, I feel like I'm going back to my very beginnings when I was trying to do my first jibes...

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      There are two reasons to be able to foil toe side in goofy stance - one would be to access the toe to heel tack, which is a bit easier than the heel to toe tack to complete. The other would be to access the toe to heel jibe - which can be useful in light wind where a messy foot switch could knock you off foil. I see all these things as just a further challenge, it feeling like taking you back to an earlier stage in your progression is just the fact that you have some weakness in your foiling competence in your goofy stance and removing it would be a good thing. I find that moving my back foot forwards in goofy toe side really helps stabilise it - so maybe try that.

    Thanks Ash, useful resource! Question: why are race and heineken gybes important? For light wind turns? Or do they build the foundation for tacks?

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  3 місяці тому +1

      @velocityprodns with a basic jibe in light wind you drop power from the wing sooner and have the issue of running into your own wing on the downwind section of the jibe. The race and heineken jibes you hold power for loger into the jibe and you can't run into the wing. The other element is that both of these jibes build your wing handling skills....which gives you some experience in more advanced wing control before you try to combine both foiling skills and wing control in the tack.
