  • Sitges is a popular beach town close to Barcelona. We came to Spain to spend the winter in a mild climate, to enjoy long walks and al fresco lunches in the sun - not really to find a place to settle down. Having lived in Spain before, we weren’t considering it for a longer term stay. But then we spent 3 weeks in Sitges Barcelona and we loved it - a LOT. Enough to say, why not settle down here for a few years? So, what about Sitges made us put Spain back on the list? And what surprising discovery made us take it back off again?
    Join us in this video for a quick tour of Sitges, Barcelona a picturesque seaside resort just 40 mins south of Barcelona and surrounding areas like Vilanova i la Geltru and Sant Pere de Ribes. We share with you what we liked about living in Sitges and why we think it might be the best beach town in Spain.

      The coffee shop is called Vita Brevis. There's one near the train station / market and another in the pedestrian shopping area. Thanks for watching and best of luck with the move.

    I just watched a video on Sitges, which brought me to your channel. I am planning to go to the Barcelona festivals in Feb 24 and note that they have some large parades in Sitges. The first thing I thought when I watched a few minutes of a tour of the town - goodness, I think I could live here! (When I retire, currently living in UK.)

    Thank you. Tax laws really worse than here in Germany? I appreciated everything you said. Nice to hear very honest opinions. I heard about long term stays in Bulgaria.

      Thank you for watching! You're very lucky to be considering beautiful Spain! Tax laws vary greatly between Spanish cities. One big factor is being employed by a Spanish company vs. being self-employed/retired. It's so complicated, we would really recommend the advice of an international tax consultant. Congrats on your plans to move! Where else are you considering?

      @@happygoluckytravelWe are considering Terragona or Sitges but we are at the very beginning stages. Originally we had chosen Valencia but after spending time there we decided we preferred less of a city. I’m a native New Yorker so I’ve had enough of city life. When you took the train to Barcelona were you able to bring your dog with you?

    • @happygoluckytravel
      @happygoluckytravel  2 роки тому

      Oh, so understand being over city life! I love dogs, but don't have my own. I've seen dogs on the train, on laps, in carriers, or for bigger dogs with leash and muzzle, but not sure what the official rules are.

      Spain has some of the most aggressive tax authorities in Europe. Lots of football players and actors were convicted to prison in Spain for tax planning (not even tax evasion). You should sort things out with a consultant if you want to actually live there. See if the figures work for you.
      Spain used to be the top choice for people in Britain looking to discover the Sun 😄 For me it’s more of a party destination (Ibiza, Barcelona, Tenerife). They eat a lot of seafood, local cuisine kind of evolves around seafood (unlike Italy, France or Greece).

    Sitges is often known as a gay resort.It is indeed very liberal and welcoming to the LGBT+ crowd and certainly owes them a debt of gratitude for the town's commercial success, but that is only one of its virtues. I have never known a town so alive with its own community, so full of a natural sense of families and so rich with its own sense of heritage and identity. So if the epithet "gay town" makes you think of some clubby adult place, you could not be more wrong. It's more teenagers playing volleyball on the beach, rollerbladers on the promenade with matching dogs, strolling couples at sunset, long lunches, elegant ladies at wine tasting events and classical music recitals.A Catalan version of Cannes or Nice.
    For me, the best times to go are spring and autumn, rather than high summer because you get that dreamy chilled out buzz rather than the louder camper vibe of high summer, and its less hot. December is delightful, with the smell of wood smoke and the sun rising and setting over the sea in front of you.
    Just two points to be aware of. It is very expensive by Spanish standards so that buying and renting is closer to London prices than much of the rest of Spain. The preferred language is Catalan, not Castilian Spanish. So learn a few words and pay the good people of the town the compliment of respecting who they really are.

    ❤💛❤ I'm very happy you enjoyed this lovely little town, but please remember there's no such thing as an "expat" in Spain, just immigrants. And we treat them all equally well, but without any privilege 🤩🥰😇
