The reaction to the falls was amazing to watch! By the way, the original name of the falls is "Mosi-wa-tunya" (MOO-SEE WAH TOO-NYAH) in the siLozi language - which means "smoke that thunders." Ironically, the same phrase (although spelled slightly different) is the same in the seSotho language of Lesotho and seTswana language of Botswana - both of which are official languages in South Africa, by the way... This is all due to common ancestry shared by these groups (Kololo)...
Trudy is doing amazingly well for a 2x4 on the roads - brave people,. Dassie is pronounced ‘Dussy’. It is wonderful travelling vicariously with you. I haven’t been to Zim for 25 years
50 yrs. It was Rhodesia & the service was exceptional. Haven't had the desire to visit since their independence. We all had friends & relatives that were badly affected by the war. It was horrendous.
Great to see you made it to Vic Falls. Fantastic place. When I was there, we took a joy flight over the Falls. Plus we did a booze cruise up the Zambezi River at sunset. PS. You didn't pay back in the 70's...
Keep the roof and windows of Trudy closed as snakes could enter. A snake can follow the scent of a squirrel. Don't share information such as having a stash of dollars as it will make you a target. Super content. The infrastructure in Africa can be challenging to say the least. Road maintenance is not high on priority. The nature and sun makes up for the inconvenience.

Thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane. Born and bred in Zimbabwe - well Rhodesia as it was then. Sad to see the state of the roads. The people are so friendly and helpful. We went to Victoria Falls as part of our honeymoon way back in 1981. Was free then to see the falls. I have been following you since you left on your epic travels and have loved all your adventures.
We were recently in Victoria Falls, at the same time you were! We stayed in the N1 Hotel, and when we looked out of our hotel window, there was Trudy parked just below us! I admit we hadn't heard of your travels before, but, being avid UA-cam watchers (and now participating), we looked you up (thanks for all of the advertising on Trudy!) and now are following you. We had hoped to see you/meet you, but we never saw you out of the van, and we left the next day. It is neat to see in this video our hotel room in the background of one of your shots of Trudy in the N1 campground! We were in the midst of a 5 week Around the World trip (by plane 😉). Also, just a couple of days prior, we had been up to Botswana on a one day Chobe NP safari, and did almost the same thing as you did on the river, but in the morning, followed by a land safari in Chobe that afternoon. We saw so many wonderful animals, with their behaviors that we could never "count on " seeing. Victoria Falls is truly a very spectacular waterfall to visit - we spent all day, from Zimbabwe and Zambia views, and walked across the Victoria Falls bridge, dodging lots of baboons and many trucks. We also enjoyed the local people very much and actually were able to connect with some of them a bit more than average tourists, I suspect. (We've also driven the Dalton Highway in Alaska to the Arctic Ocean, very similar to your Dempster Highway experience. Loved watching that series too). Congratulations on making it back to England (we were there this spring!) and all the best for your next Treading the Globe! Take care! @Adventures with Phil and Laura
Great video. Thank you for sharing. It's great to see these countries that I will never see in my lifrtime. Marion, you are a marvel, driving these roads, oh dont forget Trudy, quite amazing. Drive safely xx
We call you Mama out of respect and love. It is the equivalent of saying ma'am. I have recently graduated from sisi(young lady/sister) to mama, 😊😂 and whilst originally disconcerting, I now love the gravitas and respect that comes with it.😉
I'm watching your time at Victoria Falls teary-eyed and having chills from its magnificence. It's yet one more thing added to my bucket list because of your channel. Sending you my heartfelt thanks!!!
Vic Falls is truly a wonder of the world. I walked those paths in 1989 and was just as amazed. Was a lot cheaper in those days, if not free. A boat trip on the Zambezi is recommended.
And the rock you were standing on is an igneous intrusion. It is a single rock, (I am no geologist - but apparently they are Granite) and the thermal stress (big diurnal temperature range) causes "onion skin" erosion where layers separate from the batholith. They are found all over the area from the Barberton area to the Zimbabwe border.
I thought I would skip through your adventure but ended up watching the whole thing!! Wonderful. Pity that the highways are in a bad state but they are revamping them slowly. Fingers crossed Trudy can come back for another smooth go!! Grew up in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 and now call England 🏴 home, but Zimbabwe will always be roots.
You guys had the best memory of Zim from the bad rough roads to spectacular views of The Victoria Falls I loved seeing my country very friendly ever smiling faces its the best 😅😊
Why do people react as if roads in England don't have potholes ? I went through some potholes the other day I felt sorry for my car. You can search the state of some roads in England and see for yourself.
In my day the Vic Falls road from Bulawayo was second to none. That was over 40 years ago I know Matabeleland very well,. Great memories. The smoke that thunders what a magical place.
I know I'll mis Trudy, Chris, & Maryann on Sunday mornings after they ship back into the UK. Been quite the world trip over all these past years. Thanks for sharing the ride friends, good luck, and... 👍 Rock on 🙂.
The railway line you crossed on the Hawange National Park road, was the longest straight railway line in the World. 40 minutes before the steam trains arrival at Dett Station you could see its light. The dry seed of that food is sucked till you have only the brown pip left.
Great video. In the UK you drive on the left, here in Africa we drive on what is left. The falls are nicknamed Mosi-oa-Tunya; which means 'The smoke that thunders', by the locals,
We were staying in Victoria Falls in March this year , came in via Botswana where we had been on a mobile tented safari. The falls are a spectacular sight and you can spend many hours walking between the lookouts . Cost us $50 each entrance fee as Brits but well worth it.
50 dollars, wowsers, that's gone up an awful lot! Not been in 15 years but used to go to Zim every few months over a 5-6year period, fantastic country.
Holy moly, I am so pleased you ended up here at Victoria Falls. Absolutely a trip of a life time. It’s so good that you are experiencing it at the end of your mammoth journey. So happy for you both for being so gutsy to do it.
That big seed pod from bobab tree. you eat those dry white pods inside. Yes they are dry not wet. They have a lot of nutrition value. I was born in Wankie and grew up in Bulawayo. As kids we always ate those pods. So sad to see how the roads are not repaired.

Thanks for visiting our Zimbabwe, hope you had a memorable time in my country, cheers from London United Kingdom 🇬🇧
How did we end up here guys? Through courage, determination and a sense of adventure. You deserve the joy you receive. Just hope you have time for Cape Town and Drakensburg.
Thank you !! We will be coming in the future as we have a plan which included Cape Town as a finish point 😉🌷
The seeds from Baobab tree are not fleshy they are dry. They are very sour, I loved them. That is what cream of tartar in baking is made from
It is also used as a mordant in dying cloth with natural dyes.
Oh wow. Good to know. I have had those seeds a few times and loved them. They were so powdery and sour and just lovely. Better than fake sour bombs😊
@dikeledimothiba65 my mom used to make some juice and some jam from the powder...very tasty
I love them. It's like sour candy but actually good for you😅
The reaction to the falls was amazing to watch! By the way, the original name of the falls is "Mosi-wa-tunya" (MOO-SEE WAH TOO-NYAH) in the siLozi language - which means "smoke that thunders."
Ironically, the same phrase (although spelled slightly different) is the same in the seSotho language of Lesotho and seTswana language of Botswana - both of which are official languages in South Africa, by the way... This is all due to common ancestry shared by these groups (Kololo)...
Actually, we call the falls Mosi oa Tunya....meaning the smoke that thunders. Take note of the oa
Awww! As a Zimbabwean living in the UK, I was tearing up watching this! Sorry about the roads but glad u had a nice time ❤
Trudy is doing amazingly well for a 2x4 on the roads - brave people,.
@@alidabotes6264so is getting independence out you off? 😂😂😂
@@rojamillerover
You obviously don't know your history. We've had independence for more than 25 years.
The little animal is a Rock Hyrax or locally known as a Dassie. Believe it or not. based on bone structure the closest relation is an Elephant.
Got lots of them in our street in Westville KZN.
Not a Rock Hyrax but a Bush Hyrax. Conspicuous white patch above the eyes (eyebrows).
Love your programme. It allows me to travel and visit places that l have never been to
You should also visit the cape after Namibia. Thank you for sharing. Be blessed.
Bush babies...i know them as.
@@ceumota5697 they are not bush babies. They are Rock Hyrax. Bush babies are completely different. Bush babies are small primates with large eyes, long tails, and strong hind legs for leaping. They are nocturnal and known for their agility in trees. In contrast, rock hyraxes are small, terrestrial mammals with short limbs and stout bodies, closely related to elephants, and they are typically found on rocky terrains.
Spectacular, I'm glad you are enjoying Southern Africa. Stay safe.
I miss this place...no matter how many times I been there, the experience is never the same.Mosi -a -Tunya❤
So excited for this one. Left Zimbabwe when i was around 9. It was rhodesia back then. I know im old. Ive never been back but i still have standout memories especially vic falls. This will be memory lane for me
I have a Zim friend and he is very hard working not lazy , and he speaks very well
We cannot live in Africa and not believe in God, we see his greatness with our eyes every day- the Magistic animals and endless Mountains and landscapes. Breathtaking views
Endless beaches and forever great weather
Jehova is the god and create of all living things, seen and unseen with our eyes
One true god
Yes totally agree, there is a saying that God ( Jehovah) lives in Africa and visits the rest of the world.
Amen. He does reveal Himself through nature. ❤The Lord God is His name.

You are so right.
Yet you forget the people in Africa that make Africa for truly what it is.
Thankyou both for all your brilliant videos. Watching Victoria Falls was amazing.
Trudy is doing good 🤩. On another note, I can see that the Honda Jazz/FIT is the toughest little car in the world. They are everywhere. 😍
Victoria Falls was phenomenal. I am so happy I got to see it!
Oh wow - I wish we had met you there !! Maybe see you on the road one day 🤗🙌
Much love from South Africa ❤🇿🇦
Great video. Thank you for sharing. It's great to see these countries that I will never see in my lifrtime. Marion, you are a marvel, driving these roads, oh dont forget Trudy, quite amazing. Drive safely xx
I'm from Bulawayo born and bred... I teared up just seeing it on screen like this❤I love this ♥️I'll be following you now
We call you Mama out of respect and love. It is the equivalent of saying ma'am. I have recently graduated from sisi(young lady/sister) to mama, 😊😂 and whilst originally disconcerting, I now love the gravitas and respect that comes with it.😉
Mhamha is a term of respect for any adult woman, can be anyone from the age of 25 depending on whether you look old enough to be a mum or not.
I'm watching your time at Victoria Falls teary-eyed and having chills from its magnificence. It's yet one more thing added to my bucket list because of your channel. Sending you my heartfelt thanks!!!
If you see how they are fixing roads in Harare you will be buffled at why they are not fixing the main road from Beitbridge to Victoria Falls.
It is the Chinese fixing only the roads leading to their mines, factories and landing strips.
You can ask that question again. Just imagine the main road connecting Zimbabwe and South Africa is such embarrassingly bad.
It’s because the ones in the government don’t use those roads 🤷🏽♂️
@@ChrisTus83 it's the Ministry of Transport and there's not a single Chinese man ,woman or child working for them. Stop talking out of your arse
I'm absolutely loving this Africa series (and that the videos are getting longer and longer). What a magical way to end an incredible adventure.
Ha Ha - yes ... it has been a hard choice ... Cut out some great content or make the videos longer 😉😂🙌🌺 YAY - longer won !! 🏆 Kind regards M 🌷
Wow! Thanks for taking us along! xx
Vic Falls is truly a wonder of the world. I walked those paths in 1989 and was just as amazed. Was a lot cheaper in those days, if not free. A boat trip on the Zambezi is recommended.
After 50 years, everything seems so familiar except that the roads were smooth then, and the entrance to the Victoria Falls was free.......
Wow, it was lovely sharing your experience seeing the Falls for the first time - definitely worth enduring all that bad road! Welcome to Zimbabwe!!!
Thank you. Appreciate your laughter and friendliness. Safe travels and keep enjoy wonderful Africa.
Thank you for visiting Zimbabwe!
You guys had the best memory of Zim from the bad rough roads to spectacular views of The Victoria Falls I loved seeing my country very friendly ever smiling faces its the best 😅😊
I’m a Zimbabwean 🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼watching from the Uk🇬🇧🇬🇧. Welcome to my birth motherland
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😊
Why do people react as if roads in England don't have potholes ? I went through some potholes the other day I felt sorry for my car. You can search the state of some roads in England and see for yourself.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Victoria falls was amazing. You two take us where some of us will never get to. Loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for coming with us 🤗
In my day the Vic Falls road from Bulawayo was second to none.
Don't worry ... there are more adventures plan 😉🌺

The railway line you crossed on the Hawange National Park road, was the longest straight railway line in the World. 40 minutes before the steam trains arrival at Dett Station you could see its light. The dry seed of that food is sucked till you have only the brown pip left.
wow great info,are you zimbabwean?
Your reaction at the falls brought a tear to my eye.
You know how to charm African cops, that's for sure.
Brown, yellow and dusty because it is winter. The bushveld is stunning when it rains.
Visiting Victoria Falls was special. Could feel your excitement. What an adventure you have and great filming by Chris. Your laughs are infectious.
The west coast of Africa or South Africa and Namibia is incredible - stunning! Then go down to Cape Town and the Garden Route.
Great video. In the UK you drive on the left, here in Africa we drive on what is left.
The falls are nicknamed Mosi-oa-Tunya; which means 'The smoke that thunders', by the locals,
We are loving people. This is an amazing video. As a Zimbabwean, I felt special
Thank you ... we loved our time and hope to be back to see more one day 🌺
I'm so so glad that I first saw the Vic Falls in 1979 and we were the only 3 people there!!!! Razor wire instead of wooden fence and no charge
Can't wait to see next video,Africa is amazing. Nice view by your videos
In Southern African if you heat up a water tank with fire to get hot water the System is called a donkey.
True! 🇿🇦
I laughed at this😂😂I didn't know. Thank you for the knowledge.
In Australia too.
You can leave Africa .... but Africa never leaves you!
I loved your sense of humour guys, stay blessed and stay together much love from Zimbabwe.
Thank you 🌺
That big seed pod from bobab tree. you eat those dry white pods inside. Yes they are dry not wet. They have a lot of nutrition value. I was born in Wankie and grew up in Bulawayo. As kids we always ate those pods. So sad to see how the roads are not repaired.
I enjoyed traveling with you to Victoria Falls. Thank you! I suffered every bump with you! We have similar back roads in South Africa.
Such a wonderful and most glorious place that you both have worked hard for to get there. We are very privileged to be able to join you and this tops off such a long journey of exploration, experience and fulfilment and we are so proud of your achievements and also Trudy’s, we now expect that the new UK Prime Minister will shortly in touch to organise the OBEs for both as you are such beautiful and inspiring people who have left you make on the countries that you have travelled though. Take care, be safe and God Bless 😇🙏👍🚐
Awwh thanks guys !! It was truly a remarkable and wonderful moment to share - we have loved our time in Africa and we are sure there will be plans to go back again on another adventure in Africa !! Marianne 🌺
