Hearing that someone had been there and stole some keys from the collection makes me sick. That is what happened to a friend's widow. She trusted someone to come in and give her a value on his collection, and this person walked off with some big keys. It gives comic collectors a bad reputation, and makes it more difficult for someone to actually sell a collection.
Great to see that you came up with some positives from this trip. We can bitch and moan about the negatives but the mere fact you found an awesome Mexican restaurant is all that mattered. Good food with great company is what we sometimes just need.
That many low priced books have a cost- staff time to inventory, the staff time and hard cost of bagging and boarding, staff time to sort and organize, space allocation, the enormous staff time to photo them list them ship them - even if in bulk is dizzying. You dodged a bullet. Shoulda packed up a bunch of that Mexican Food in the U-Haul and resold that - you woulda done better..😅
Great Video - thanks for sharing! You're definitely honest & transparent - Bravo to you Bry. Not sure what else was in that collection, but it didn't look like it was worth 15k. I would like to offer a tip of my own that has worked for me in the past ... because I've been through multiple similar situations (not roof but "I have to put my Kid through college" etc.) Whatever ridiculous asking price they want for the collection, I will counter very, very low. Because truth is... its hard to sell them piece meal and we all know this. Once they laugh at me - and AT THAT Minute I open up my wallet and show them my (low) cash offer, and say here you go... it's all yours. 99% of the time I walk away with the collection for what I counter with. Simple psychology - no one will risk losing any amount of cash up front.
That collection looked like it was 1980's and up. No Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense, Journey into Mystery. Basically, no vintage Marvel books. The handful of books you pulled ( Marvel Premiere 15, ASM 300) was as vintage as he had and not enough to justify the ask price. Likely the bulk of the books were mostly $1 dollar sells, if that. All in all nothing to write home about. The take away is you had a nice drive, a fantastic meal and some good company. Best to all.
Switch and bait, Bro. It happens and I am glad you are an honest person. That’s a lot of work for that collection and they weren’t honest with you. Bad mojo from the get go. Thank you for sharing.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the journey and not just looking at the end goal. I think people forget to do that sometimes. Good on you, enjoyed the video.
Another great video! I walk away from a large majority of collections that I look at. I usually question myself, but after a little while I am almost always confident that I did the right thing.
Damn - interesting to see the details as you were able to draw them out. Sorry it was a strike out and you had to drive all that way. But damn, good Mexican is good Mexican. Love me some elote :-)
I'm no where near this, in terms of comic collecting yet... but in case for the future, this video will be informative to me when I do feel comfortable to get comic collections. And also I learned about a new Mexican food spot, I should try one day.
How many times does a collection get picked over before you get your hands on it? It’s happened to me so many times. I was offered an ‘almost complete Kirby collection’ by an old friend but but by the time I got my hands on it, it was just one long box and didn’t contain a single issue of the FF (which I knew was always his favourite). Great video as always, Bry, I always look for your posts first.
Nice video Bry! Looks like they had someone come in and value the collection, value it at $50k, that person walk off with a Hulk 180 and 181 for their effort and who knows what else. Then they put the remaining keys in 1 box hoping you don't look at the rest and extrapolate the value of that 1 box over the rest of the collection.
Great video! Brings to mind the Batman meme of him slapping Robin! You can't educate evry person on things they aren't willing to try to understand. Good walkway in my opinion. Keep the great content coming. As always I enjoyed watching!
That was crazy adventure. And honestly, I think you dodged a bullet. That collection looked like a lot of work, to squeeze a minimal profit! Happy hunting Bry!
Always fun to see what collections are still out there. Funny enough, that collection is only about 45 minutes away from me! Sadly, when buying collections around here this is what you run into. Most of them have been picked through by local collectors or they've pulled out the most valuable ones and sold/traded them away already (I've been through several in the area just like this, decent books/runs that have been cherry picked already)
Smart move to walk away when there are so many warning signs - another good tip for selling, keep some type of updated inventory list. I have over 10k comics and keep track of them in a couple programs. It may be a bit of work if you haven't kept it up, especially with tens of thousands of books (which is a lot), but it makes it much easier to manage for both parties when it comes time to review/sell.
Terrific video!! That Mexican restaurant sounds awesome! I bookmarked it so I can try it the next time I'm passing through Willits. I thought you made a more than generous offer, and the folks will regret not accepting it. If you want to take a 5 to 6hr roadtrip, then you can check out my collection too. Seriously, though, when I'm ready to sell my collection....I'm contacting you. Maybe just ask me to show you the collection through more photos or a video call. Thanks for all the great information and tips!
very informative video. i'm so glad you didnt buy that collection but what really sucked was the fact that you got baited and they switched on you with more info as you arrived there.. that really hurt.
You are An optimist if I have ever seen one. Most would be furious for making that drive and have the rug pulled out from under them. It was half the amount of comics, they missed quoted you the price they wanted. And most importantly without some of the more important information. Yes you truly are a nice person
$15k for at most 25,000 books is $.60 per book. Seems like a very strong offer for buying such a large collection without a lot of major keys. How did you get to where you felt you would be able to get your $15k back (or better yet, double your money)? Was it based on the number of silver age books? Just keys you saw? Did you review every book?
Looks like they'll be shingleing their roof with those comics. It's a shame they were robbed by that woman who worked for them, but they are going to be sitting on those until doomsday if they're hell bent on holding out for $50k.
Well dang, now I know what happened to those Detective Comics books. Hopefully I'm lucky enough to win one of them. At least you got some amazing Mexican food and some time with your buddy!!
Great collection Bry, hell of a lot of books though. Too bad alot of the major books had been cherry picked out. Being honest is the key to any relationship business or personal. To waste your time is just slimy. Great video Bry. Take care.
Wow! Great food, good hang time, shuffling comics, working hard to really save some books that were not looking happy, and all that to find out a thief, possibly, had picked through them for four months with a no sale. That’s turning a major grinder of effort for a lady who didn’t sound like she thought to give them as much as a single comic to the guys for their trouble! That’s not cool. Some people are luckier than others for sure. Gifts can be soured by others looking to squeeze out the fun. ☹️ Hope a little fortune of luck is smiling the next time for everyone. ✌️
Wow, valuing the comics because he needed a roof!?! Sounds like a lot of real estate sellers who ask a “pie in the sky price” based on personal needs not market value. You handled the situation with professionalism and grace. Well done!
Great video. It makes me sad that the people who inherited those comics don't appreciate them. You also should try to get a sponsorship from that Mexican restaurant. Their food sounds amazing.
Good on you to pass. I know you guys were far off an agreeable price but I know how hard it can be to not overspend after investing that much time and energy into purchasing the collection. I appreciate the content ❤
new subscriber..I hate the pictures of the keys like that as bait...I ask for other pictures and always a reason they can't get them or just a vague answer on the collection... just like you every time I then go and see the collection the rest is just dollar bin /filler.. keep posting these types of videos on the collection buys.. there are still good collections out there

These videos where you tour a collection are so crazy. Keep them coming.
“What did you learn from this?” 😂😂 Wives know best, Bry!
I like your attitude, you always look at the bright side of a situation and you don’t let negative thing affect you. Bravo 😊
I would've offered them a box of roofing nails and a couple stacks of shingles 🤣 That collection looked pretty grindy to me
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂best comment!
15k would have been a total gift for that collection!
I learn so much from your submissions!
The best part of this one was your statement about the relief in NOT buying. Excellent job, I would’ve 100% felt the same relief.
Lol it still feels great 😂
What a bummer. Love your Great attitude
WoW! I thought my situation was bad. Thank you for sharing this situation, it lets me see things from a different perspective.
Great video. Appreciate the story and knowledge
Great to see that you came up with some positives from this trip. We can bitch and moan about the negatives but the mere fact you found an awesome Mexican restaurant is all that mattered. Good food with great company is what we sometimes just need.
Amen!
I know how you feel. Walking away feels great sometimes!
Very helpful since I have a large collection and I keep learning more and more. Thanks for the tips.
I do love these types of vids- great insight
Follow Josh guys!
Thanks Bry👍🏻
Lol, good food, good friends, and u dodged a bullet. That's a Good day👍
Really appreciate these looks behind the scenes
Great content - these types of videos are my jam. It's like you're bringing us along for the ride and we're right there with you.
Good food and hangin with your bud. Good day!

As always, a great video. Love your attitude and honesty!
Huge selection, good pulls and love your channel

Great video. Some folks aren't good at dealing and its always awkward to do that.
I would be interested to hear if they contact you again down the road reconsidering your offer

I like your story. Especially the part at the end about not buying it.
I used to work with a guy who was from the town of Willits, that's the only time I had ever heard of the place, until now. lol
Glad to hear you're enjoying the journey and not just looking at the end goal. I think people forget to do that sometimes. Good on you, enjoyed the video.

Wow. Awesome books and awesome video!
Thank you!

Very very possible
Fun to watch…bold move going out to see the collection. 40,000 books is a lot of work. Keep grinding bro!✌🏼
Entertaining vid.. another good one

See those big books sold, 👏 👏 👏
Picked up some more slabs this morning. I'm accumulating points, what are they for?
You can use them like cash towards books…can’t remember all the details but just log in to redeem points 👍
@@BrysComics Just used it for a preorder, thanks.
Cool vid bry, keep up the good work!

Gotta take a chance sometimes. My wife still don’t understand it. Lol
Just found this channel thanks for the information.

You won’t be disappointed! And yeah I’m sure we can make a deal from a distance 👍
Love this show!
Great content as always
I feel like I should be submitting comics for grading after watching a few of your videos lol.
Can you do some vids on variant covers and which to collect?
very informative video. i'm so glad you didnt buy that collection but what really sucked was the fact that you got baited and they switched on you with more info as you arrived there.. that really hurt.
That food did look good. You should have loaded the uhaul with that on the trip back.
😂

Cool video Bry
Another great vid!
Crazy collection definitely a lot of inventory for mystery boxes
Nice video! How am I just finding out about your channel?!
I don’t know but welcome aboard!
Finding the awesome Mexican food was worth taking the trip!!!
I'd say the #1 thing todo before traveling for a buy is to ask questions

@@BrysComics agreed!
If you are in the Memphis area I have about 10 long boxes for sale with a lot of keys from the 50's to the present.
I’m in Cali unfortunately…
Great video.
Uncanny X-Men 244 cgc 8.0 for $26 in 3bay I don't have this book I know it's not great grade but do you think at this price it's a good book?
Sounds like it all turned out for the best. Can't argue with a fun time.
Love your videos keep it up bruh

great find

Wow, fascinating video.
This was an awesome adventure. Sometimes better to stay away from some collections.
Sick car, Bry!
Awesome video
Wow, what a story. Good thing for awesome Mexican food.
Great trip though 🤙🏴
Great collection but must have been frustrating. I wonder how one amasses so much lol.
Gotta say, that Mexican street tacos did look good, cherry on top with the Elote lol
Some decent issues but a wild goose chase!
Enjoyed the video!
That really was a cool story bro.
Great collection
I agree you really need to have someone with comic knowledge put a value on a collection you can’t expect 9.6 Price for a lower grade book.
That sucks man. That has to have been frustrating. 😑 How often does this happen to you?
This was the first time I traveled…
Awesome attitude and great way to make the best of a so-so situation! A shame the "appraiser" ripped those folks off.
Wow, valuing the comics because he needed a roof!?! Sounds like a lot of real estate sellers who ask a “pie in the sky price” based on personal needs not market value. You handled the situation with professionalism and grace. Well done!

I wonder how long it will take them to realize they should have taken the offer…
Thumbs up for having some Silver Age goodies as the monthly give aways!!
I know I know, I should do that more often 😜
