TBH that’s when people do their best work. Adele when writing 21 was going through heartbreak. Beyoncé going through lemonade was having marital issues with Jay . Coincidence ??
Exactly. Thank u, next is the moment that changed the pop game forever. Ariana did that in just 5 years of her career. Not many people can do that. And let's not forget, thank u, next still hold most of the records it broke and set 4 years later.
even though my fav album from her is positions, thank u next was truly a time to be alive. its one of those moments where you HAD to be there and experience the (very short lived) era in real time. the album itself is truly a masterpiece. the fact that it was made in only 2-3 months is absolutely crazy.
@@eternalbliss330 i would say it doesn’t have her best singles (I would say sweetener or dangerous woman does) but her vocals, the production, the lyrics and the cohesiveness is the strongest.
I see her latest three albums as a trilogy: "Sweetener:" the feelings of release after trauma "Thank u, next:" the darkness of parsing through your baggage "Positions:" feeling whole again, but never quite the same
the entire era of thank u, next (the transition from sweetener and the release of the actual album) was flawless, it’s so impressive that both Ariana and her team managed to release so much without it feeling like an oversaturation of music. such a success. I also like the fact that Ariana used music as an outlet to deal with her trauma, and not shy away from it. She doesn’t even know how many other people she has saved by giving herself the chance to heal and grow through music she and her friends created. It’s refreshing to see an artist establish their own musical identity without completely changing up their style - her evolution felt so natural, both musically and as a person.
I agree that sweetener and thank u, next are sister albums and two sides to a coin. During the sweetener era she was beginning to really find herself musically, and thank u, next basically solidified it with positions furthering her musical identity. Also the thank u, next era was definitely when she became ARIANA GRANDE the pop icon. It girl was in full effect and the haters couldn't stand it but I was living!!
I think Sweetener, Thank U, Next, and Positions are sister albums / a trilogy. If Sweetener is the bubbly side of healing, and TUN is the more raw, darker version of healing, then Positions is the aftermath of all that and the end of the chapter. And the artwork proves that bc the cover is right side up!
I feel like this album will be remembered by future generations as: the MOST important album of the 2010s. this album was truly a cultural reset, really.
ghostin is my favorite song of all time, and i’ve got the ‘dreaming’ line tattooed on me. I don’t think i’ve ever heard a song so real and personal. As much as I’m not a fan of her manager scooter, i’m happy he convinced her to put it on the album, it got me through a lot.
I don’t think it’s “if she cared”, she was going through hell at that time. Her tour life was exhausting her and she had a lot on top of her personally.
@@chrisfernando3199 exactly. But I feel like Ariana doesn't care about promoting etc. She just wants to make music, release it, sing with her fans on tour and that's it.
@@natalie3061 Yup ever since like’13 that’s all she’s ever wanted to do was sing write and be on tour selling out massive arenas all that other stuff she doesn’t really care for 🤷🏽♀️
@@RinaIsForever also, her team made her do many promotion during "my everything" era. She was everywhere performing problem. And that made her stable in US. After that, I really haven't seen her promoting her albums. Dangerous Woman, Sweetener were still promoted (not fully up to the mark though), Thank u, next was a very little promoted, and positions wasn't promoted at all. I feel like as she's growing up as an artist and as a person and has already reached the icon stage, she doesn't have to promote her work as it still stays on top no matter what, which works in Ariana's favour since she doesn't wanna promote and just wanna release music whenever she wants to.
@@natalie3061 that’s fact and yeah when people hear the name “Ariana Grande” people know who that is off rip cause she’s a household name so she doesn’t have or need to promote her herself
i'm so grateful for this channel. people hardly ever discuss ariana grande's artistry. thank u next in particular is definitely my favorite album from her. the way sweetener was so big, grand, celebratory, and almost gospel-esque as a way to heal ariana's inner traumas and thank u next was more minimalist and dark is my favorite thing to discuss. also i'm so happy you consider swt and tun to be to two halves of a whole chapter because i've been trying to say this for years lol ariana is one of my favorite songwriters ever. people discredit her so much just because she's a popstar, but her more romantic way of approaching music is so nice to listen to. it makes me feel like i'm reading a diary of some sort (especially in positions). she's been writing and vocal producing her songs since the very beginning but is never recognized for it :(
she is incredibly underrated when it comes to her involvement in her own music. people think she’s just some vain and ditzy pop star and that couldn’t be more far from the truth. she deserves so much more respect.
I always thought tun’s title was gonna be a direct opposite like bittersweet, sour, etc. I guess tun was a good name considering the tun song’s success, and that must be the way she chose it.
Well said. I agree with each and everything you said. We all know how amazing and great Ariana is a vocalist but what about her songwriting? Her producing skills? Her involvement in her music? Her as an artist? People do discuss it but it's not enough. Ariana's artistry should be discussed thoroughly and studied. Some other artist's fans like Taylor Swifts discredits her work a lot bc she's Taylor's competition. Selena Gomez fans also loves to do the same, idk where they got the confidence from? Mac Miller fans (not all, but some) definitely turned against her and thus, stop supporting and respecting her not only as an artist but as a person too. Besides, everyone does know how good Ariana is as an artist and discuss about it as well but I feel like it's not enough.
Sweetener and Thank u next are definitely “sister albums” the albums messages are so similar and they are both aris most powerfully albums! (lyrically) 🫶🫶🫶
thank u next was such a reset and positions itself as an album is so underrated. it gets this rep as a “sex driven” album but in reality the album is about love and vulnerability.
i’ve always said sweetener and tun were sister albums, but when looking at the whole picture, it’s really a trilogy along with positions (album). positions was an album that wasn’t supposed to happen as it was made during her off year. it serves as a great finale to the healing process with lines such as “all my baggage fading safely”. this trilogy of albums was great to hiatus into the next part of her career with the wicked movies, rem beauty and any future endeavors.
the thank u, next era truly will go down in history. it was so good and genuine. Also in my head is one of my faves from her and one of my favorite songs in general:)
it will literally always amaze me how in just 5 months she went from average pop singer to the biggest star in the world. after thank u next she was breaking record after record. it’s insane
still pisses me off she didn’t promote it more. after buwygfib, the tour was the only promotion there was. she could’ve easily milked that era like all the other pop girls do and it would’ve been one of the greatest selling albums/eras of all time.
I remember going through some of the dark times during the time of the thank u, next release. It’ll forever hold such a special place in my heart, because much like Ariana herself has said, the album in some ways saved my life as well. 💜 ghostin will forever me my favorite song by ari
