Just to clarify that Break up with your girlfriend is not about her wanting someone to cheat on someone with her or to force them to break up, its actually about her relation with Pete when everything happened, their relationship was so baaad that she wanted him to break up with her but she didn't had the strengths to do that, that's why she says break up with ur girlfriend ( Ariana) cause she is exhausted

A long while ago, I myself used to not like thank u next too much either. I remember watching ur old ariana vid and completely agreeing with ur opinion on the album lol. Butttttt I did get the chance to listen and appreciate it way more ever since, and I really love the album now. Just a good old short sad rnb album with some great bops :D (I seriously be turning the volume all the way up once nasa and bloodline comes up)

tun is my personal favorite ari album becasue A) it came out on my birthday and B) i resonate with a lot of the lyrics in the album. Hi Jason! I agree with your comments about “7 rings”. I also have a hard time liking it for those same reasons. The one thing I can say for that one is that I like it more for what it symbolizes than the song itself. I feel like that song embodies the duality of women (strong and feminine) within the pacing of her verses vs. chorus; and tempo changes on the production going from “Favorite Things” vs. the trap beat. Slightly cringey to listen to, but I love the representation. 😂

in "thank u, next," these are the lyrics:

now when the album transitions to "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored," she is talking about self-empowerment and self-love, NOT the idea of cheating on another man, but rather herself (ie. not taking the time to learn, heal, and grow).
tldr; the album as a whole is a healing album. she essentially goes from "imagine," where she discusses her fantasies, to the middle of the album, where she is telling the story of her relationships (ie. how they did not work out, the traumas, etc.. .). nearing the end of the album, with "7 rings," she is telling us her healing process. in "thank u, next," she is thanking her exes for their contribution in who she has become as a woman, no matter how good or bad those contributions may have been. and finally in "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored," like i mentioned above, she is talking about self-empowerment and self-love. in the music video of "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored," she is watching her crush and his girlfriend in the club, but she ends up hooking up with the girlfriend in the end, who happens to look exactly like her (ie. falling in love with yourself).
i realized i said, "tldr" above; however, there is so much story behind this album that i needed to share it as accurately as possible.
i also want to note that the whole ethan slater incident was first released by Page Six, who then later backtracked and said there is no hard evidence that ariana is the reason ethan divorced his wife.. .or in other words, these are RUMORS.
ariana and her ex-husband, dalton, separated in jan/feb 2023, but did not file for divorce until sep 2023, and it was finalized in oct 2023.
although there is no exact date that i could find about ethan and his ex-wife, lily, separating, they filed for divorce in jul 2023. i also could not find exactly when the divorce was finalized.
i also wanna note that the lyrics in her song "yes, and?" are:
Now, I'm so done with caring
What you think, no, I won't hide
Underneath your own projections
Or change my most authentic life
in the end, the public is essentially shaming both ariana and ethan because the timelines of both separations/fillings for divorce/divorce are too close to when they got together. while i ✨ sort of ✨ understand why the public is shaming them (ie. ariana being a "homewrecker"), it is purely based on RUMORS, and we do not know the exact details or timelines outside of what the media has released, nor do we know if what the media has release is factual. it ✨ seems ✨ like they got together while they were both emotionally separated from their ex-spouses, but we have not heard anything from ariana or ethan directly to confirm or deny this.
to the general public:
mind yo damn business! we all do things we should not do, are not proud of, or regret, etc.. .but lets not pretend like we are some goodie two shoes, like our lives are perfect, like we have never done anything wrong, and like we know everything going on. some of y'all really need to check yourself.. .and ariana said it best in "yes, and?":
