- The Honda e:NY1 is a somewhat overdue entrant to the electric family crossover class, but going by the specs it looks as though it is in with a chance. After all, with a range of 256 miles between charges, and the ability to rapid charge from 20-80% charge in around 45 minutes, it sounds perfectly competitive.
To find out if the e:NY1 has what it takes, in this CarGurus UK video Vicky Parrott tests it head-to-head with the Kia Niro EV. As one of our most highly rated electric crossovers, the Niro EV offers a very good blend of range (up to 285 miles), performance and technology. What's more, because Kia offers it a a range of trims compared with Honda's approach of only selling the e:NY1 in an equipment-heavy top-spec, the Niro EV also looks like comparatively good value.

The Honda e:NY1 isn't a real a Honda product, it was engineered and is being manufactured by Dongfeng in China.
So its a Dongfeng car with a Honda badge. Nothing wrong with Dongfeng cars, but they are not a Honda

Neither is appealing... £600 / month £21 600 over 3 years ( probably more as you will need 3 months up front and final fees for any damage or extra mileage call it £23 000) for something you'll never own... Then 3 years later repeat the same exercise...
Buy a decent used vehicle (say £15 000) and keep for much longer and you can use the difference saved to cover fuel and maintenance.. then it's yours to sell.. not just hand back..
why tie yourself down to these payment schemes.. just to have some shiny metal to keep up with the neighbors?
I agree. I buy cars at 2-3 years old at 50% of their new prices & keep for 4-6 years.
Thank God there's people with more money than sense if not there would not be second hand car's for the wise guys.
Let the people who buy on company car schemes / salary sacrifice buy the new cars to get the massive income tax saving and then us private buyers can get them after 3 years
The problem is second hand cars are so expensive it's a huge gamble. Buy a heap of rubbish or something with problems and you're stuck with it, the days of a cheap run around or cheap second hand car have vanished. A friend of mine purchased a second hand car from a dealer, had major problems with it, the warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on and he ended up spending several thousands on not one but two replacement engines and even then it wasn't right, ended up selling it at a huge loss. The market has changed a lot, there is no easy solution to owning a car anymore. Even the second hand market is controlled by just a few companies. Granted you can always buy privately but it's a risk given the higher prices involved.

I do the same as you. There is a good argument for leasing in a very changeable market, but that will probably be factored into the payments anyway.
I don’t make car payments. I keep my money invested at the brokerage until I go to make the purchase. Then I sell enough stocks and mutual funds to cover it, go to the bank with the buyers order for a cashiers check and then take the check to the dealer. I the take the keys and drive off.

Salary sacrifice makes a lot of sense if you can access that.
I think that on the whole the Kia is a much better car. The only thing that lets it down is the relatively slow rapid charging.
Sports mode and worrying about 0-60 are really unnecessary when it comes to EVs. And some comments about slow charging.....its not like you have to charge it every night.
True, yet so many people have become accustomed to consuming 19,000-20,000kw when they fill up an ICE car with fuel that anything less is considered slow.
You go on about the skoda enyaq and you alway quote the starting price . So if I want a skoda with a similar equipment to kia niro 4 I am touching £56k that a huge amount skoda have do this trim thing which instead of being equipment it simply the fabric on the seat.
Where's the heated seats where the electric seat these are either in packages costing 6 or 7 k on top to the up 3k for intetior trim . Sorry skoda to expensive
With 25000 pound Honda price here in Norway .. and Kia start from 34 and goes up 40 .... Honda with that price is justify?

Also in Germany, Belgium, France and Luxembourg and Italy too, the Honda eNy1 prices are much lower, compared to the past and, now even far less expensive compared to Kia Niro EV.

The kia Niro EV 4 is £42K and the Model Y is £44,990
I don’t think it is really, it’s 30cm/12 inches longer than the Niro EV. I don’t know the Honda’s measurements. The Y is a D-segment crossover and the Niro is a C-segment crossover. I think the Honda might be a D-segment as well.

I find it funny that Tesla is always mentioned....the model y has horrible built quality and Tesla still has problems with Basic car stuff....leaks, suspension etc...

it is not really very important. In a comparative test with two identical ID4, one with heat pump and one without, the difference in range km was ridiculously low
Considering the Honda is late to the party, it’s disappointing they’ve not done more with it. It offers nothing new or competitive!
So you can only really choose the Kia. Great effort, if slower charging than you’d like!
Salary sacrifice makes a lot of sense if you can access that.
