      Arcane S1: 9.5/10
      Arcane S2 Act I: 10/10
      Arcane S2 Act II: 9/10
      Arcane S2 Act III: 4/10
      Arcane Act 3 Sucked.
underwhelming ending that rushes its story. Story doesnt fall together or even make sense at parts. Visuals and animation saved them.

Episode 7 spoke to me on such a personal level. As a widower, it was a beautiful "what if" happy ending, but having to accept responsibility and deny that life was hard to watch. And then for it to be dedicated to Juliette was a gut punch since that was my wifes name. Very curious who the Juliette was they dedicated it to.

I think the fact that episode 7-9 didnt have any montages covering large gaps in time that all the montages in episodes 1-6 were more for the purpose of getting a lot of story done quickly rather than solely an artistic choice. I still like this season a great deal, but people saying it wasnt rushed is WILD. It undeniably was.

Season 2 was good liked it a lot doesn't quite hit the same as season 1 did but still really good. The quality of the show cannot be denied, and the peak moments are just as peak as s1. The thing that holds it back is it just doesn't fit all together tightly there's too much going on without it being shown properly. I do wish it was longer I feel like basically every story line was rushed besides the Vi and Jinx's relationship. That was the only plot that played out and developed thoroughly. Most other main characters like Ekko, Hiemer, Jayce, Viktor, Mel didn't have their stories cook for long enough. It just felt super rushed with every character outside the sisters. Jinx, Ekko and Isha are my favorite characters in the show and I felt somewhat disappointed not seeing an arc that had Ekko as the main. I feel like they could have added a whole extra arc with the Ekko stuff there was a really compelling story to be told there but Riot kind of dropped the ball with that storyline. Ekko creates hextech in that universe because he wants to go home but during the process he has to choose between staying being happy with the people he has lost or going back to try and save the people he left behind. That whole sequence was just waaaaay too fast and needed to bake in the oven more.

I don't think it's rush at all, they were side character that was well written making us more curious because the main arc of Arcane is still evolve around Jinx and Vi. That's the beauty of Arcane is that every side character is well developed, had a personality and have their moment like Isha. It's a well developed flow that told us the whole story without getting into detail cause they want us to crave for more details.

Speaking of getting an "Arcane" type show again I think it will be so difficult to pull that off again because what I think they knocked out of the park is the nuances that come with emotional trauma and how the specific characters of Jinx and Vi especially deal with that sort of thing. I think the rest of the roster of League would have a hard time picking out a character that can give that much emotion again. Just my thoughts but sI trust in them to create another banger of a series.

Most people think he’s just an annoying anime archetype (which he is on the surface level) but he does have some depth with his missing parents story and how he adventures to try and get there attention. Honestly you have a few. You have the story of riven and yasuo. Riven "accidentally" killing yasuos training master leading to him getting blamed for it. To which leads in him fighting and killing his brother, while riven has some amnesia and is picked up by a couple farmers taking care of her.
You then have yasuo trying to find who killed his master vs this genuinely normally kind riven that was forced into a war causine her amnesia. They eventually have a confrontation in the story and settle their differences. Amazing lore and would be extreemely emotional too.
you could also do pantheon and aatrox and that whole story. thats an amazing and gut wrenching story, and pantheon has some of the best hard hitting quotes of all time in the game.
You got mordekaiser and noxus power struggle internal issues.
You got the mage racism in demacia with lux and garen that would be super emotional.
You got the power struggle in the frelyord and the looming threat of the old gods.
You got the fall of shurima and the beggining of the void and darkin
You have the rune wars that permenately scared the face of runeterra with ryze.
You have the entirety of viegos lore that would be emotional if done right.
There are actually SO many good emotionally gripping stories in league. They even picked an originally non emotional story for arcane and made it amazing.
And to be fair it looks like they are going to noxus next season so im bettiner on those storing lines. However idk if i am hyped for the next season cause season 2 was so butchured and poorly handled.

Season 2 was very good, but like you said, I really do miss the themes of class division, inevitability, and tragedy. In particular, the tragedy in Season 1 works so well because we're given the vision of how it could be avoided if only 1 or 2 things went a different way. If only Powder didn't go to Silco's Lair, if only Vi hadn't left Powder, if only Viktor had reached out to Skye when he was a kid, if only Ekko hadn't shown up at Jinx and Vi's reunion, etc etc. A lot of the tragedy in Season 2 on the other hand doesn't have these elements as much, it's more "oh that's really sad" or "damn that sucks", but it feels like the only thing that could have happened, it's missing that gripping element that makes something truly tragic, imo.

  • @alexandertjorna3719
    @alexandertjorna3719 4 дні тому +23

The major problem with season 2 is that it went from being so down to earth to becoming abstract with apocalypse and magic etc. This is wrong in itself. Promises and payoffs. The entire tone of Arcane is that it's practical and down to earth with hints of magic and larger concepts outside the story which also gives a feeling of a vast world.
They should have completely skipped the story around the anomaly and The Arcane. (I don’t care that it’s in the name). These are concepts and things that never get explained, are confusing, destroy already established lore and diminish the significance of other things while taking time away from other elements.
The story around the Black Rose could have been hinted at behind the scenes without having any major significance for Arcane's story. It should only be hints. Which could be developed in the next project about Noxus. It would give the feeling of a larger world without taking away Arcane's down-to-earth feeling. And it would have made the viewer interested in potential future projects.
What should the story have been about? The conflict between the two social classes! What the story was about in season 1 and what was built up to be expanded in season 2. The entire season 1 built up for the great conflict between Piltover and Zaun. And that's what the story should have focused on in season 2. With focus on the characters and their relationships as they need to deal with the harsh reality. That's what grips the viewer.
How would I have structured the story for season 2? With a great war and conflict between Piltover and Zaun that develops throughout the season to then get a heartbreaking and impactful ending to the story between the different characters we have followed, but still leaves the larger overarching story with the conflict between Piltover and Zaun open and active. This keeps the world open and alive with possibilities for all other stories that can take place with other characters in Piltover and Zaun, while still getting a clear ending to the current story that played out in Arcane.
What would that story have been? Okay, Jinx has just attacked the council and killed Caitlyn's mother and several leaders. Episodes 1-3 act 1 are perfect and build on this so nicely. The only change I would have made is that I would have skipped Isha completely. Instead, I would have dived deeper into Jinx's madness and instability that was so beautifully built up during season 1. I imagine Jinx really embracing the identity of Jinx and carrying out resistance against Piltover with full force through acts of terror and attacks. She's really a madwoman and villain, where her good side sometimes leaks through. These continued attacks from Jinx and some from the barons lead to Caitlyn becoming a dictator etc. I imagine that the hatred among Piltover's people should be through the roof. Especially if Jinx and people from Zaun carried out attacks and acts of terror that killed people in Piltover, maybe Jayce's mother too? This could pressure and force Jayce to use Hextech to equip the military. In other words, build on Jayce's hard side from season 1. Especially considering the anger he would feel after losing his mother. But also that he would likely have given up hope for peace considering they responded to the peace proposal with an act of terror in season 1 ep 9.
Piltover's cruel response against Zaun would create tensions in relationships. Vi would leave Cait in the same way because of a fight and to be with her people. She can have her full drinking/fighting period with the big police guy. But then maybe she teams up with the Firelights who try to help the population in Zaun and resist Jinx and the other actors who commit terror attacks against Piltover. She and the Firelights try to find a peaceful solution with well-meaning/peace-oriented people within Piltover. Meanwhile, Piltover's brutality against Zaun and Jinx's active counterattacks with acts of terror lead to the Jinx cult being created. The group that follows Jinx and also wants to resist. Much more reasonable that this group is created if Jinx is actually an active party attacking Piltover!
Then focus can also be on the Chem Barons. How these people and groups fight more directly against Piltover. Maybe we see the beginning of Renata Glass? In other words, Jinx and her followers stand for more chaotic resistance against Piltover with terror attacks and spontaneous attacks. While the barons represent Zaun's more structured resistance with troops and soldiers. Much better than just killing them off in some music videos.
When it comes to Jayce and Victor, I think their conflict could have become so much better in this story. First of all, the conflict begins with Jayce supporting Piltover and providing them with Hextech weapons. Victor survives and realizes how to use Hextech to survive and to help others. Help via Hextech as a technical invention, not as some magical Jesus thing. I envision how Victor leaves Jayce and Piltover due to the conflict created when Jayce supports the offensive against Zaun. Maybe Victor saves some people from Zaun, maybe some supporters of Jinx, by giving them robot parts improved via his new Hextech knowledge. Then it turns out that these robot parts/improvements were used by Jinx's supporters to carry out additional terror attacks against Piltover, maybe this is when Jayce's mother dies? In other words because Victor is to blame, which Jayce understands because he recognizes the technology from Victor. This would have been the perfect catalyst for Victor's conviction about the glorious evolution. Because he realizes that humans are flawed, both Jayce and those he saved use Hextech as weapons and are all completely wrong. Solution: to remove the human factor from his robot improvements. So Victor doesn't just turn body parts into more robots when he saves them. He makes their minds and feelings more robot-like with his technology, something he's already done to himself. Glorious evolution!

The story with Warwick still has much potential. Similarly, the story with Ambessa and the Noxus invasion. I think that Singed should have created Warwick. His goal is to stop death and save Orianna etc. But one change I would like to make is that he actually works for the Chem Barons. And they finance his work because they hope he can develop stronger weapons they can use against Piltover. They hope, for example, that they can use Warwick against Piltover. Additionally, Singed should have several other researchers who are employed by the Chem Barons to learn from Singed. This opens up possibilities for more researchers who exist in Zaun and who might later create Mundo, Zac, or Urgot etc. I think later that Singed might be captured during a raid from Piltover. This causes him to activate Warwick in the same way as what happened in the series, just that now there's a reasonable explanation. Warwick is intended to be used as a weapon against Piltover. Moreover, maybe Singed wants to activate Warwick to protect his lab/Orianna from Piltover etc.
Meanwhile, maybe Jinx is planning some attack on the prison to kill masses of Piltover people and free prisoners. Vi is there with Firelights to stop Jinx because she will kill several Zaun people simultaneously through the attack. Shows how Jinx is insane. Then the attack from Warwick happens and Jinx is there fighting and then sees Vander. This should disturb Jinx's fanatical state. Maybe she comes back somehow? Vi should probably see this. But she's the only one who sees it. Piltover's people, Cait and Firelights with Ekko etc. should still see Jinx as a major enemy.
Singed should later be recruited by Ambessa. Meanwhile, Cait is slowly getting tired of her dictator role and all the death. She is slowly getting tired of Ambessa and no longer wants to cooperate with Noxus. This could be done via dialog and meetings with Mel that is still in Piltover in my version. They are both tired of all the violence and hatred. And Cait maybe gets closer to Vi and Ekko again. Similarly, Jayce starts doubting himself and the violence. He hears about Victor's work of "saving" people by making them more robot-like. He wants to save Victor from this robot state he seems to have put himself in. Jayce maybe comes down to Victor's lab where Victor appears to be doing very inhuman things with people. This causes Jayce to stop everything to end their suffering. This leads to them all dying. A scene from the old lore. If you know you know.
I think the season could end with the conflict against Noxus becoming larger. It's Noxus troops that hit hardest against Zaun. So Zaun is against Noxus and Ambessa. Meanwhile, a confrontation arises between Piltover and Noxus. This results in Ambessa being forced to leave Piltover with her troops. I still want to argue that Piltover and then also Mel (who isn't stuck in Black Rose story) have more soldiers etc. in their city to drive away Ambessa. This leads to Ambessa preparing her entire army for an invasion instead, I think that in smaller scenes throughout the season you can have seen how she prepared the whole army for a major invasion in case her collaboration with Cait ends. These scenes are also where we could have gotten hints about the Black Rose.
Meanwhile, Ekko and Heimer have researched the Z-drive. Similarly, Jayce builds and creates more and more Hextech weapons. But he realizes they can be improved with Victor's help. So he gets help from Victor even though Victor is increasingly robot-like. Jayce wants to reconcile with Victor, but Victor is more robot pragmatic and only helps because it is reasonable.
Then the great battle begins. Noxus invades and attacks both Piltover and Zaun. Which results in both parties being forced to fight against Noxus and defend themselves. Goes tough for them. Noxus is strong. This is also where they have a scene between Jinx, Vi, and Warwick in a similar way to what was in the season ending (but better and more credible). That Jinx sacrifices herself in some way. They fail to save Vander, because of something Singed did or so. So Jinx sacrifices herself in a similar way as Isha did to save Vi, Cait, Jayce, and Ekko. Her redemption. Then the battle against Noxus continues. They appear to be losing until Jayce and Victor's improved inventions and Ekko's Z-drive turn the battlefield. Ambessa maybe dies, or not. Maybe she is forced to flee. But overall Piltover and Zaun manage to defend themselves from Noxus.
Final scenes. See how Jayce tries to reach out to Victor after the victory. But Victor seems to be too far gone in his glorious evolution. They go separate ways. Jinx is presumed dead, but probably isn't. Warwick is to be taken by Singed who makes the final transformation of him. Show Orianna and that Singed works under Noxus now. Vi is together with Cait and they work together with the Firelights to try to create more order and collaboration between Piltover and Zaun. Meanwhile, you see how certain houses in Piltover haven't given up on the conflict between Piltover and Zaun and they don't support Cait's and Vi's ambition peace, maybe Camille's house? Similarly, we can see in Zaun that several Chem Barons are dead in Zaun after the battle against Noxus, but maybe a scene hinting at Renata Glass and future chem baron activity. Similarly, a scene showing that Zaun is still a wild place. Several of the doctors who worked under Singed remain etc. Shows that this story is over, but the larger story between Piltover and Zaun continues. Similarly, a scene from Ambessa that teases the conflict in Noxus which will likely be the next project for Riot.

The big problems with season 2 are the rushed pacing and the conflict between servicing LOL fans with prior knowledge of the Lore, and casual viewers. There are lots of Easter eggs and elements introduced from the game and game lore that either go nowhere or are not expanded upon enough. To say "dude, you just need to research the lore" is a crazy excuse for the poorer/rushed writing this season. Apply that logic to any other TV show/movie that didn't fully explain plot elements introduced within it. You'd call it bad writing.
Season 1 is a masterpiece. It stands alone without needing to know anything about LOL and its lore. I haven't played the game and everything makes sense in S1. In big parts of season 2, I feel the creators forgot that and just rushed to get the characters and world to a point that matched the games. It doesn't work for casual viewers and, if it doesn't work for casual viewers, the screenplay has failed.

Or maybe it would make sense that Singed didn't invent shimmer in the happy timeline, despite him having already invented it by the time the heist happened

With all that said, I had a lot of expectations and hopes for S2 living up to the greatness they gave us in 2021. However, even from the start I felt something was not right. Every episode was marching at a steadily increasing rate. Things were moving so fast and I felt like we weren't getting enough time for things to develop naturally.
1.The whole Jinx vs Vi conflict escalated and then moved on and then was resolved really fast. It just felt like we are on timer, like "Come on guys go go go, the train is moving, we have no time".
    2. I love Mel as a character. Honestly THE most beautifully animated design of the whole show and the voice actress was phenomenal. But wth man, she went from a council woman barely surviving the terror attack from Jinx to getting kidnapped by unknown organization that was never set up or explained to all of a sudden she is this badass wizard.
    3. The last episode had this grandiose vibe to it, but everything and I mean everything felt like gamey, fan servicey, catered towards the LoL community and fanbase. And I am sure it was appreciated, but this show could have grabbed the attention of so many eyeballs, so many more "normie" people. I know the LoL community is vast, but the normie numbers are greater.
Also S1 had this feeling of weight behind every action scene. In S2 and especially the Finale the character became their gaming equivalents and all of a sudden I was watching a Marvel movie.
    4. The final season came off as 2 seasons crammed into 1 because of time, and budgetary and other types of restraints. At the very least it would have benefitted from 4 more episodes, minimum.
Final thoughts, phenomenal first season. I will talk about and discuss Season 1 with people for the next 10 years, at least. One of the closest examples of a modern day masterpiece.
Season 2 felt a bit rushed, a bit fan service, a bit we need to wrap this up because its too big to sustain or too big to make more of. It didn't deliver the hype and expectations I had, and I assume that most people out there that are not familiar with the LoL world and lore probably felt something similar. I know that LoL players and the LoL community might feel differently about it, but my biggest fear for S2 was that they would lean into satisfying them, instead of trying to finish the story in a way that would grab everybody's attention, like S1 did in a incredibly successful manner.
PS: Episode 7 was indeed a bottle episode, but it is just the cutest. Simply adorable.
I hope people would understand where I am coming from, maybe in a couple of weeks time I might have a different opinion after some time passes and I ruminate over I just saw. Overall S1: 10/10 masterful work; S2: visually stunning, beautiful, gorgeous, the artists at Studio Fortiche are masters of their craft. But final score 7/10. I was left a bit let down from a storytelling standpoint.
    Cheers.

I have to disagree with the sentiment that the 9th episode was too fan service-y because it was too much like super heroes. If anything I feel like they went the Marvel route in trying to tell the story of more 'grounded' characters. I don't think many people went into a show about a video game and then thought they suddenly had too many powers, especially given it's animated as well. In this arc we literally see multiversal interactions, development of time travel, protoevolution, etc. We watched 2 seasons of Singed make Warwick. I can't really get behind people getting to episode S2 E9 and suddenly think the show isn't grounded enough.
I'll admit I'm more in the crowd that we got a great show like Arcane at the sacrifice of the lore. So really to me I saw the finale as the means to end a great story not due an entire service to league lore. So from my perspective it's feels like the opposite of fan service.

Lots of good in this Season. It fell a little short compared to Season 1 for me though. Season 1 had so much magic in the character development. This season got side tracked into the Viktor / Jayce thing. Too abstract and obtuse. Too many moments of 'why does that crystal do that thing?' or 'where are we and what's going on?' The Ambessa + black rose plot was also kind of hard to really get into. Season 1's focus on the emotional development of the characters was the strength. Keep developing that.

My interpretation of Heimerdinger passing is that he is an immortal being, he has seen pupils live and die, he has failed some of them like Jayce, he has even failed his city, but by tagging along with Ekko, just like he said “I truly lived” and so, in his old age, perhaps he feels as if he has lived enough. If the experiment was to fail, he’d sacrifice himself for his pupil to get to do something he already did: Live

    Rushed Finale.
They needed 1 or 2 more episodes after episode 7 to make the finale pop & believable. Zaun & Piltover working together at the end felt forced and I feel like they set up Jinx as this character that will unite Zuan but after the prison break Zaun kind of fell into the background and Jinx has nothing really to do with Zaun after that. Lastly the 'side' character deaths had no impact for me and the big death at the end make sense but could have been better.

Season 2 was also a borderline masterpiece, but it felt like a very differently show. Less down to earth and fewer emotional gut punches, but still immensely impressive and engrossing for its scope and complexity.
There were so many characters and so many forces at play that there was so much to pay attention to and try to grasp, which made it hard to follow at times. Some moments felt like a rush to the finish line and could have benefitted from being more fleshed out having longer periods of payoff. But even in those moments I was still absolutely along for the ride at every turn. The storytelling and animation are just too good to ever be anything else.

I have to say, after watching Act 3 again, they didn't totally stick the landing. While Ep 7 was great, they were dragging their heels a bit with all of the music numbers. 3 of them with each of them lasting 2+ minutes while we watch an expedited of "this is what characters are doing" just felt like fluff. Ep 8 was quite a bit better with the pacing. However ep 9 falls with vast majority of the season finales of the more recent shows: JAMMING FAR TOO MUCH TOO FAST. Not to mention that the wrap up to the end was "meh" at best. I agree that this should've been a 12 Ep season instead of 9.

So many storylines left open, so many questions left unanswered and with no more seasons, they will never be addressed. Also, the "selfless savior" trope being used in nearly every episode had me rolling my eyes by the end. Overall the writing in season 2 felt sloppy leaving storylines feeling much less impactful vs. season 1. The animation and music hard carried the writing this season IMO.
That said, season 2 episode 7 was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

I think they did that on purpose because the story of Arcane is over, the story of runeterra and the rest of the league universe has probably just begun and the creators have already stated that they have other stories in mind that they want to create. So, I imagine we will see the furthering storylines of Caitlyn and Vi as well as an expansion of Mel involved in other storylines from other characters in the universe of league while they will no longer be main characters, they will have vast influences in the world. While some are already speculating the possible return of Jayce and Viktor and maybe even Jinx(some speculate at the animation when the blast initially happens, one of the streaks of purple is her escaping and Caitlyn is looking at the hexgate schematics at the end because she thinks there may be a probability that she escaped. That Jinx escapes in order for both her and Vi to live out their own lives free of each other having did what they needed to do, but this is just one of the major theories I have seen so far over the internet) as well as the probable return of Heimerdinger since he didn't seemingly get vaporized, but simply got sent somewhere else entirely. So, I would agree this would be very underwhelming if this is only it, but if the creators get their way and create other stories and have an expansion in the world, it's honestly a pretty good setup for the future.

I am really disappointed with Mel, I think the series could have been stronger if they put her more to the side in season two. That whole black rose plot kind went nowhere for me. And hat could have been filled up better. Jinx and Vi feel like they get short changed in the finale.
I do think the whole warwick thing didn't really hit too well, felt like a bit too much fast tracking the sisters getting back together and, a lot more fantasy weirdness vs the grit that was the first one.
I must say it does feel like there is a bit of a hole. Cause I have been anticipating this for the past 3 years. And it was really nice to look forward to new episodes each week. And now there isn't even more on the horrizon, and if there is more is a big question mark.

Spend some time filling out the lore of the other LoL characters and regions and creating dramatic stories within/between each. CDPR managed to create an astouindingly rich world in a relatively small number of years so I think a similarly talented team could really give us a much deeper and wider experience of runeterra, one we could interact with or just spend time in (like I still do in W3)

I always find it funny that when people talk about Jinx killing Caitlyn's mother that they never used that logic in the prologue. Caitlyn's mother is on the council that gave the order that led to the death of Jinx and Vi's parents. It is literally a part of the story of season 1 that no one ever picks up on. The final scene in season 1 happens because of the prologue. How obvious do they have to make things before you really consider the implications of what that means. If Jinx is guilty, then every person in that council room is just as guilty. That's what a cycle of violence is. You don't just pick out one person from on the oppressed side of the conflict and then throw all blame on that individual. That isn't how anything works.

The fact that they were firing shipping containers made me think they weren’t designed to be weapons and were instead used for sending or moving cargo and repurposed at the last moment. They ended it at s2 because it's hard to keep squeezing these characters and environment
It's not like they did it to respect the story considering they left an absurd number of loose ends to be picked up again
Arcane needed to end so they could start their very profitable League Cinematic Universe, so they killed Arcane early

The tail end (episodes 6-9?)was really frustrating to watch because of the amount of "haha you thought, but just kidding" the writers pulled.
Ambessa at the tent, Caitlyn with the knife come to mind. Like why even have those scenes at all of you are just going to ignore the implications of what happened? Made me feel like the writers think the viewer is stupid or forgetful.

@@rylanmarriott8116 nah you don't get it. criticizing this season then saying season 1 is perfect is the dumbest thing I heard/read. Alot of the "mistakes" from this season were rooted from the mistakes of the 1st season. go watch season !, and you'll notice "pacing" is more of an issue also. Only one character in season 1 reached catharsis (Jinx) while all subplots have questionable directions.
Season 1 is never a perfect, not even near-perfect season. People keep saying that because it was a pleasant surprise.
Vi-Caitlyn love story was a forced, fan service subplot
Medarda subplot was an unnecessary shit introduced late
      Viktor subplot was a meh

The introduction of Noxus was the biggest mistake this show made. It could have worked if we were given another episode per act or a third season, but since they were only doing 2 seasons the show would have benefited from removing the plot line all together. It took valuable screen time away from other conflicts that would have been more than engaging enough on their own (piltover vs zaun, Viktor and the Hexcore). Overall I'm of the opinion that noxus was the plotline that broke the plot and the reason why everything feels so rushed this season, it felt too external.
