    Might be interesting to try a blind ‘taste test’ (Pepsi Challenge), rolling and cutting in from two unmarked (label covered up) cans - one containing SW Duration and the other containing Regal Select. It might also be cool to see you painting with the product, and pointing out some features as you paint. Gimmicky? Maybe. But perhaps worth trying. Thanks for another outstanding video.

    Thanks for the vidyas! I am not a professional painter but I painted the entirety of my old house, top to bottom, some rooms many times. Am currently painting my new home. Just BG info…
    Anyway, I’m sure you already know this but I’ll share just in case bc it helps me with Ben Moore paint. My #1 brush is the Purdy pro extra 2.5” angled but for Regal Select I really like the Wooster Alpha. It’s a really good match but I’m probably not as fast as you.

      Very nice. I have used those brushes a bit, but my go-to is the Corona Cortez 2 1/2 inch sashed. I'll be doing a video on them in the near future :)

      haha. Nice observation. My favorite load out is Duration matte for walls, Promar Ceiling for ceilings, and Duration semi for trim. As far as eggshell paints Regal Select Eggshell is the best in my opinion. The Duration doesn't come in an eggshell.... hence, Regal Select is my favorite eggshell. Also we have clients who prefer Benny Moore paint, so we have to have a load out for them as well. I'm sure we'll have something new next month that is our favorite :)

    My dad had his own painting business for 50 years and did many high end jobs and this was his go-to paint. I would say 95% of the jobs he did he used the Benjamin Moore Regal line. He did a lot of high end jobs and always applied one coat of primer and two coats of finish and his reasoning was that the primer offered a new canvas for the new color that was going to be applied. He liked to use flat on the ceiling and eggshell on the walls and then used Satin Impervo (oil) on the doors and woodwork, though towards the end he did take a liking to the Advance line for the doors and woodwork. In bathrooms and kitchens he used the Satin Impervo but also started using the Benjamin Moore Kitchen and Bath line which does a pretty good job as well. While he did prefer Benjamin Moore paints, he always said that you get what you pay for and you should always use a high quality paint and he said Sherwin Williams, Prat and Lambert and Pittsburgh Paints were very good and also for woodwork there is a paint company called "FIne Paints of Europe" that is very good but that paint is very pricey and it also can be difficult to find as not many stores carry it.

    I’m confused… per Benjamin Moore all of the Regal line has mildew and mild protectant in it. You specifically say it doesn’t

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Рік тому

      At the time of the filming it did not have the mildew protectant. If something has changed that is news to me.

      This video is an older video. In 2023 they reformulated Regal Select (the can looks different now). The new formulation has quite a few issues that have yet to be addressed. That’s why we’re using emerald for almost all of our interior walls nowadays.

    We sell Regal for bathrooms all the time. The whole Regal line has anti-microbial, just like Duration. Aura Bath&Spa was designed to prevent streaking in a Matte finish caused by surfactant leaching.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  2 роки тому

      To my knowledge there is a significant difference between Regal Select and the Duration line of paints from Sherwin Williams. Yes, they do both have anti-microbial properties, but Duration also has moisture blocking technology (similar to Bath & Spa) that helps prevent leaching, which Regal does not have. Most of the paint failures I see in bathrooms have to do with moisture penetrating the finish, which is why in bathrooms that have a moisture producing element, such as a bath or shower, we always use either Bath & Spa from Benjamin Moore or Duration or Emerald from Sherwin Williams.
      In a bathroom that has high ceilings and good ventilation you can get away with a less protective paint, particularly on the walls. But, if it gets super steamy you'll probably run into issues eventually with a product like Regal Select.

    If using eggshell, for walls. What product would you recommend for trim/doors and then ceilings? Maybe, pearl for trim and doors and flat for ceiling? Ofc, specific to Benjamin Moore line.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  2 роки тому +1

      For Benny Moore we like the Super Hide flat for ceilings. For trim we like the Scuff X in semi gloss. Some painters like the Regal Select semi gloss as well for trim. Happy 4th!

  • @sandiegosunshine8006
    @sandiegosunshine8006 Рік тому

    Do you find regal select eggshell easy to touch up? My tenants tend to leave small nail holes on the walls and I want to be able to touch them up quickly after patching without having to repaint the whole wall, but not sure if eggshell sheen would make the blemishes very obvious....

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Рік тому +1

      That may not be the best application for your rentals. It is very common to use flat paint on the walls and ceilings in rentals. It touches up the easiest, and generally durability is not the main concern.

    • @sandiegosunshine8006
      @sandiegosunshine8006 Рік тому

      @@SuperVassarBrothers thank you for the response! May I ask why rentals don’t have to worry abt durability? I thought Bc there will be quite a bit it wear and tear, it will be easier to use durable paint and have it last for longer? (Such as just scrubbing clean vs repainting)

  • @TheeboDRx

    Is it true that a stiffer brush is best for a thicker paint?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  5 місяців тому

      To a point. A corona cortez is my favorite brush for this type of paint and I’d say it’s more of a medium stiffness brush. If you use a brush like a corona Vegas which is all soft bristles then cutting in will be quite slow.

  • @radosuites7058

    Do you do wet on dry on this paint when it comes to rolling after cutting in? Asking because this stuff dries super fast

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Рік тому

      So this video is a few years old and they recently changed the formula for this product. It's quite a bit harder to work with now. Our crew and others have been having issues with it sagging. My suggestion would be to let your cut-ins dry completely before rolling. Particularly on the second coat.

    Thank you for the review! Can you do one for Ben Interior too? And do you have any experience with Benjamin Moore’s simply white? I would love to use it throughout my rental but heard it often takes more than two coats to cover.....(the original walls are an off white so not dark colors)

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Рік тому +1

      I will add that to the list of paints to review. Whether or not the Simply White will cover has more to do with the quality of paint you use. It's common for folks to use a flat paint everywhere in a rental. It's not super durable, but it covers well and touches up easily.

    Do you plan to do a video on the differences in paint brands and importance of primer vs all in one?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Рік тому

      I will likely be doing a lot more comparison videos. I've done a few videos on priming. That's not a bad idea to talk about primer vs "all-in-one" paints. Spoiler alert paint and primer in one is nonsense. The inside joke is that that product was created by marketing departments and not the chemistry lab.

    Is there any advantage in using Aura over the Regal?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Рік тому +1

      An argument can be made that Aura performs better with deep base (dark colors) than Regal. In my experience there's not a need to go with Aura over Regal Select for the majority of applications.

      Hi. We use Regal eggshell all the time in kitchens. If you want more sheen and washability you could use the Pearl (there version of satin). We haven't used the Pearl Regal Select much, so I don't have a strong opinion on that product. Whatever you prefer my friend. The eggshell has been great for us and our clients.
