It’s an ok ride but it was basically set up to fail by Disney. First, there’s a ride in the same park (Toy Story Mania) that is pretty much the same thing as this, where your car pulls up to screens, stops, you shoot, and then move on. 2. This ride can’t be the “anchor attraction” for a new land… let alone the first Marvel land by Disney. Disney shouldn’t have saved the Avenger’s E-Ticket coming in phase 2. 3. … who wants to shoot webs at robots, when Spider-Man has some of the coolest villains out there. It just seems lazy and boring. 4. IOA’s Spider-Man is one of the best dark rides in the world, and this will always be compared to it (and lose to it) because they’re both themed to Spider-Man
There’s one more thing I would add to that list. Knotts Berry Farm which is just a town away from Disneyland and California Adventure opened up a shooting dark ride called Knotts Beary Tales Return to the Fair for there 100th year anniversary a few weeks before Spider Man opened.
Those villains are the property of Sony and Disney is not about to cough up that money (this ride is part of the Sony-Disney deal for Disney to continue to license Spider-Man, hence the upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie is part of the MCU).
The screens are incorporated very badly, you can see that they are screens. They did it with Rise of the Resistance and Navi River Journes, why not in this ride??
@@mstrmren because Rise of the Resistance used screens for things like windows, here they didn't have much room to build a ride with actual sets, that's why they look so obvious.
From this angle, without reticules or lasers it's impossible to tell what, if any, effect the player movement is having. I wonder how accurate the tracking is.
I wouldnt even say immersive, you're just sitting in a moving chair that shows you screens. Even a VR headset is more immersive than these type of rides
I think I would have preferred a ride that was something more similar to star tours, but with the same basic premise of you helping Spider-Man stop the spider bots, but instead of you going from screen to screen in the factory shooting the bots you have the one screen and the car is moving and your swinging around the campus
Disney Land 50 years ago: What if we recreate fan favourite movie in real world with physical props and robot? Disney Land now: Video game with 3D screen and DLC
i tried it out today, and trust me, it feels great. the webs are shockingly accurate with ur hands, the sound design is loud and immersive, and the length makes it feel worth the wait. the only thing that kinda sucks is that your arms getting extremely tired after each section, which makes it a little less inclusive for elderly people. but overall, its awesome!
only positive comment ive seen and i'm waiting to get on the ride haha. wasn't the best idea to read comments since im not much of a ride enthusiast in the first place. good to know though :]
Honestly, the whole land screams this. Like yeah it’s great but this ride could so easily be re-skinned and completely redone. This wouldn’t be that big of an issue if the whole land wasn’t like this. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout could be redone since 90% of it is just screens. The new Avengers ride will be like Soarin’ so that will be easily replaced. Every single ride in the new land relies almost completely on screens so they could make the entire land a new theme and it wouldn’t be hard in the slightest.
Damn I was hoping for some animatronics. A few spots with physical things you could shoot would’ve made you feel like you’re actually part of the action.
Oh great, more of that kind of 3D. Like I needed to give myself any more motion sickness headaches. Yeah, I think I’ll stay back at the hotel and lay out next to the pool.
Thanks for posting this so I can be disappointed at this new ride without having to wait like 50 minutes standing in line and then saying I can’t believe I waited so long for this underwhelming new ride.
@@alexandrus5397 Ironically that was a design lead by Scott Trowbridge and others members of the team who designed Universal's Islands of Adventure's Amazing Adventures of Spiderman. The Rise of the Resistance Ride System is actually based on a concept that was pre Spiderman theme when the iteration of the main indoor attraction was going to be based on Superman.
Alot of people here are judging a ride by watching a video on their phone screen of a ride that utilizes really good 3D screens. Like you can't judge this ride if you haven't been on it physically. This ride is so much fun for what it is and once your in that ride vehicle and start shooting webs you become fully immersed into the ride and invested. And it's so much fun if you ride with a friend or family group and work together.
ive ridden it. the judgements people are making are correct. it's easily the worst ride ive ever been on. it makes the fast and the furious ride look like an actually trip to the moon.
There are several places where the ride wraps around 180 degrees and the effect from the other side is ruined when you pass around the end of a wall. You stop and fire into a large room behind a door. Once the scene is complete, you go around the end of the wall to the other side. In other words, you were just looking into a hug room on one side of a wall then you see the other side of that SAME WALL. It ruins the illusion as there is no way in hell that room could exist behind the door ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FOOT THINK WALL!!!
I don’t like the idea of sitting next to a stranger & having to swing my arms for smaller parties of 2. This is underwhelming for a new Disney attraction
The arm slinging looks like a fun alternative to the guns they use on Astro blasters and toy story mania, but there isn’t much else that’s unique about this ride.definitely underwhelming for sure with more than one of this style ride already in the parks.
So in the Universal ride, you had a wide selection of villains featuring, Doc Ock, Electro, Hydro-Man, Scream and Hobgoblin. While with the Disney ride… you have… spider drones… I’m shivering in fear.
@@kiwikiwi2483 true but that ride makes you feel like you’re in the world of Spider-Man. It’s immersive, spooky at times and exciting. This is just moving from screen to screen aiming your arms at virtual robots and winning. Basically a video game irl lmao
@@emiliox4474 That's one attraction out of many attraction that Disney has. Just think, in some other regional park, Disney's Spiderman ride would be considered the best attraction probably. @@kiwikiwi2483 not saying Disney rides are bad lol. They definitely have impressive and fun rides. I’m just saying how a 20 year old ride is better than a brand new, Disney ride. And how they reused the idea of toy story mania or something in this ride lol
I had imagined (what I believe) is a better type of Spider-Man ride for Disney. I wanted to see a suspended ride that moves on 2 rails with a 3rd upper rail that controls left/right swinging motion. Have the ride vehicle swing in, out, and around real building sets with video screens and you’d have a fun ride with “flying” type motion.
They could just use one of those powered rail coasters that have come into development lately. There's an Arthur The Ride in the UK that uses a lot of animatronics for example.
Thank you for the video, I now know not to even waste my time on this what ever you want to call it. Definitely not a ride to me. Unfortunately Disneyland seems to be going downhill and that is so sad to see.
There's a worse one in Dubai that's even more expensive. They built a Ghostbusters ride that's very similar to this, except they wasted a trackless ride system on it, too.
Wow, this makes the Peter Pan ride seem super exciting. How unfortunate. But why am I not surprised? When I went to galaxys edge in DL, it was empty. Nobody cares about it. Disney has no standards for the new stuff
We just got back from Disneyland. Went into California Adventure not knowing about this ride. Saw that the LLane was priced at 18.00 a ticket, so I thought it would be pretty good. Coughed up the $ for me and my daughter. Whoa, what a bummer...
Oh wow....well I must give the win to universal on this one. They have an older and better Spider-Man attraction. It looks cool but poor physical set design and to many screens with poor integration. A slow ride for our fast web slinging friend is a little disappointing.
@@Emike-nc9ew well for dark rides, nothing beats physical sets with good animatronics and effects. If you going to use screens, use them sparingly and in complement to the scenes.
After NWH, they had so much potential to make this ride the best ride of all time, but instead Disney chose to make a re theme of a ninjago shooting dark ride at legoland! I think I can speak for everyone when I say they should have waited for a 2022 opening and themed it to NWH.
My first trip to California Adventure a few days before Halloween 2022 and this was my first ride. Glad I didn't read read any of reviews before hand or I probably would've skipped it. I HAD SO MUCH FUN even though I totally failed😂😂😂. I think I may have shot Spiderman😮. I enjoyed interacting with the ride.
@@xviper2k false, this is not an e ticket attraction just like with Star Wars land that one has yet to open up, this is more like the millennium falcon ride which while not the main attraction is still pretty fun just like this ride.
Disney's too stubborn for that. But they may fast-track the development of a replacement, as Universal has done with the Tonight Show and Fast & Furious attractions.
I keep seeing things about issues with space and comparing to islands of adventure Spiderman. Which looking at this, IOA spider man ride is better in the sense it's far more immersive due to the actual ride vehicle moving in motion with the action, as well as the 3D effects actually having contact with the ride vehicle (like spidey jumps on the front and they use smoke and steam to create further effects), as appose to just going along a track and then stopping and you staying still throughout each sequence. If they had done something like how Harry Potter and the Forbidden journey works that would have been awesome (if they had space). Feels like a bit of a missed opportunity for a great ride. But great for little kids I guess
I really wish that somewhere in the ride they had implemented a Spider-Man animatronic of some kind. I feel that because of their reliance on the screens, the visuals ended up looking flat. Especially during the preshow, the unrealism of the flat looking Tom Holland video and then the super cgi Spider-Man took away from the experience. I wish there were more physical bits, like seen in the moving bits of the ride (going from screen to screen) as I think those little scenes were some of my favorite (especially when you could see the little spider bits running around in the pipes!)
I feel like this is already the worst Disney attraction since DCA 1.0. Basically you sit in a car and wave your arms at a video game, while the person you just accidentally smacked in the face may or may not be a complete stranger. What an utter train wreck.
Reminds me of the kraken at knott”s berry farm, but w/o the mellow laid back charm. Others can go for these audience participation rides I don’t. They seem like going to a concert where the singer wants you to sing along.
I’m glad to see most of the comments match my initial reaction. Toy Story Mania turned into Spider-Man theme. This project had so much potential. This could’ve been an incredible roller coaster. This could’ve been so much more than what it is. It’s pathetic.
@@MegaSoulHero you mean disney land. if i apply that to disney LAND cali, then i agree. and this video proves my and your point. this doesn’t apply for all disney parks.
What makes it even worse is that Universal Orlando just launched the Velocicoaster as their new ride. OMG... it's quite possibly the best roller coaster on the planet.
This just looks fun. Seriously, why all the negative "critique" here folks. Give Disney some serious credit here developing a new experience for the masses. Its about building "experiences" people will have, right in line w/ ol' Uncle Walt and his ever evolving vision for the park(s). I suspect if some of you had your ways, we'd still be stuck w/ Mission To Mars or Captain EO...
Problem is, I know Disney nowadays can do better like Rise of the Resistance, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, and Flight of Passage. This is just a ride where you get stuffed into a box, play a Kinect game and move awkwardly to another one for 3 minutes.
I really don't how I feel about this. Despite it being another video game format, it's lame how they did this ride in that it's a reskinned version of Toy Story Mania. In one sense, pretty well developed the scenes, but I don't want to keep spamming my fists on a screen with no feedback. If I wanted to play like that, I'd go to an arcade.
it's actually a reskinned Ninjago ride at legoland. which is even worse. they purchased it from the company that makes that ride, and rethemed it to spiderman.
This ride would have been better if you could choose which avenger to play and set it in the infinity war/endgame settings. Also i don't understand why it's called avengers campus but there's none of the original avengers in the first ride for the area.
“Spirdermans midway Astro blasters” it looks boring, has no story, the ride makes no sense. It’s just another clone of every other interactive ride you fine at Knotts, or BG.
When I found out about this ride I thought it was going to be some zip line ride where it would be like you would be swinging about like you are Spider Man, hence the name “Web Slingers.” But we got a this interactive ride. It’s alright but it’s below most ride quality. It could have been something better.
To be fair someone posted leaks of the original plans for avengers campus on disboards, and it was going to be way different. The campus was originally going to go in the Hollywood Backlot area at California adventure instead of a bugs land. I assume they wanted to put it there because those huge unused warehouses there could have housed way bigger rides/experiences compared to the tiny bugs land space. As for the spider man ride it was going to be a ride where you sit in seats suspended from an arm connected to a track on the ceiling. And was described as "a ride that allows you to experience how it feels to swing through the city with spider man". I have no idea if it's 100% true but they had posted some proof in the thread at the time, which I wish I had saved, so take this with a grain of salt. But i believe it especially since a mockup model of it was up for sale on ebay/Google not too long ago. The e ticket quinjet/king Thanos ride are supposed to get actually had the concept art shown off for one day at Disneyland Paris. Along with that was also a somewhat detailed description of the ride, I can post that here if you want. Anyways I have no idea why they didn't go with the original plans for the campus, although I assume it was due to the higher ups making budget cuts to every new project, and the avengers campus we ended up with was way cheaper. Disney didn't even develop this ride themselves, they outsourced the development of it to the same company that made the same ride at lego land (that was ninjago themed). Sorry for the long paragraph, I just wish we had gotten the better version of the campus. The e ticket ride can save the land, but I doubt disney will build it, and if they do it feels like they won't start on it for another 8 years : (
I thought it would be something like Star Tours, a virtual 3D ride with that flying feeling, this looks like that laser shooting attraction in Discovery land...
The idea is cute and nice, but it looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen, what with them encouraging everyone to flail around. Someone's gonna get hurt. 😂 Also, I'm disappointed that there isn't an actual story or an interactive queue for this ride. 🤕
don't waste your time. i've never been more disappointed in my entire life. spiderman is easily the worst ride ive ever been on. the avengers stunt show is the least convincing stunt show i've ever tried to see (your view is partially obstructed no matter where you stand). and the Dr. Strange show is about as good as a guy pulling quarters out from behind your ear.

4. IOA’s Spider-Man is one of the best dark rides in the world, and this will always be compared to it (and lose to it) because they’re both themed to Spider-Man
Exactly. It's not unique at all
The E ticket is guardians I think that’s why they’re waiting to add the other ride
@@matthewjohnston1251 I agree. Guardians is better than this ride by billions of miles.
Outside of the screens, the physical sets look like this ride could've been made by Six Flags, not DISNEYLAND.

They should call these “immersive arcade games”. No hate, I just think that term fits better than ride. It’s more honest to what you’re going into.
Not worth the kind of money you pay for a REAL ride lol
I wouldnt even say immersive, you're just sitting in a moving chair that shows you screens. Even a VR headset is more immersive than these type of rides
I think I would have preferred a ride that was something more similar to star tours, but with the same basic premise of you helping Spider-Man stop the spider bots, but instead of you going from screen to screen in the factory shooting the bots you have the one screen and the car is moving and your swinging around the campus
Honestly, I prefer the old bugs land. It had its charm and it looked so beautiful.
Glad I saw this video. Now I will save myself the trouble of wasting time with it. This is not Disney level entertainment. Thanks, SoCal.

Which is a REALLY bad idea considering that Spider-Man has been popular longer than Star Wars has been around
@@mariomouse8265 heh? XD
Every single ride in the new land relies almost completely on screens so they could make the entire land a new theme and it wouldn’t be hard in the slightest.

that moment you realize universal put more work into the Life of Pets ride than Disney did for their new spider man ride
Universal realizing Disney lost their touch and encroaching on their trademark classic dark rides. I'm all for it.
I have been on it " physically"...just got back tonight...and I didn't like at all. Same thing as toy story...
ive ridden it. the judgements people are making are correct. it's easily the worst ride ive ever been on. it makes the fast and the furious ride look like an actually trip to the moon.
It looks like it’s basically just a Spider-Man themed version of Hollywood Studios Toy Story Mania.

Universal's Spiderman ride blows this away

Watching this from my PS5…since I’m sitting in my rocking chair that swivels. I’m sitting in my “ride” watching a “ride”

At last a ride that looks like the riders are giving the attraction the finger.
The e ticket ride can save the land, but I doubt disney will build it, and if they do it feels like they won't start on it for another 8 years : (
So it's just a Spider-Man reskin of Toy Story Midway Mania, which is in THE SAME PARK. Snore.
They could have just installed these as booths in STARCADE - and called it Toy Spider Midway Mania
