Paul probably one of the best interviews to date. The concept of "accept the culture and adjust" needs to be almost a mantra. So many couples I have known and seen, the foreigner not accepting and always complaining "oh she always helping her family", "I make her cook her food outside because it stinks" I could go on and on.
Sorry was trying to put a space there but as a side hearing her say "I don't like how foreigners curse" and he is an Irish man. Wonder how many times he has bitten his tongue lol.

The fact that a simple act like “kissing in public” is considered sacred to Filipinas and should only be done in private is a breath of fresh air. That only means that intimacy is valued very much by the culture. Intimacy is sacred!
I met my wife in 2008 in Las Vegas at the age of 55. She was 21 at the time. We have been together since then living here in the Philippines now. She had a son that was 6 years old at the time and now he is doing his second year of college in computer science. The secret is love and caring for each other. A simple formula. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I have been marrird to a Filipina for 34 years. I am older by 11 years. We still have some communication problems from time to time. I need her to watch this video lol. My Brother in-law was married to his Filipina wife with a 40 year age gap , he just died at 83 and she’s 43 , happily married for 18 years. She may not remarry. I see the heart felt loss.

I don't believe I have ever commented on your channel, but I must say it was refreshing to see this couple get along and be forthright about their viewpoints. She was composed in her thoughts and articulate in her explanations and answers. She is quite level headed and a realist in her thoughts and observations. I agree with her about the use of vulgarity and profanity in daily conversation. Growing up in the 1950's, 60's, 70's and early 80's or previous to that timeframe, you rarely, if at all, heard people curse in public. Men had respect for women and children in that regard and it was frowned upon. The last 25 years the F-bombs are openly used in public conversations to express contempt or pleasure. People no longer have integrity, dignity and respect toward others. Society has become a rude, crass, and vulgar cesspool of thoughts, ideologies and conversations, thanks to Hollywood, media, entertainment, porn, social media and the decline of the nuclear family and it's values. Show me a person that curses and you can be assured it is someone you likely cannot trust. One of your better interviews. I don't always agree with everything you do, say, and represent, however, I respect the freedom and liberty that allows you to express your opinions in a decent way. By the way, are they married, or just have a living together arrangement? Thank you.

There are many conflicts in this type of relationship. In this particular one I only see material interests from her and perhaps the need of companionship from him.
When you claim to "see material interests form her" what was your source for this incorrect conclusion? Certainly not in the video content. Was it perhaps an indirect reflection on bad experiences in your life? Vhie is a successful businesswoman and financially independent from me. Perhaps you were absent when those facts were confirmed. I wont comment of your ludicrous comment about the reason Im in the relationship "is the need for companionship."

Always wondered what challenges the pinay had with foreigners… She was well spoken and hearing she still had issues with communication was wonderful information…
That never goes away. Communication will be limited. I had the same problem in the past. That's why it's important to have a trusted friend that speaks your same language.

Outstanding interview/video. I had similar experience. I met my wife on-line when I was in the U.S., and we talked for about 6-months before I moved to Cebu City, Philippines. She joined me there alone from Mindanao. She has two twin 14-year-old-daughters that joined us about 2 months later. I was 71, she was 36. I am in good physical shape. I felt like Paul, "I don't need more kids, been there, done that, etc." However, I never felt like a had a true "family" in a previous marriage. So I thought I could have a "redo" as a family and father, learning from my past mistakes. I do like kids, and truthfully, I could have never found two more perfect daughters anywhere on the planet. They keep me smiling and laughing every day, and I truly love and support them as if biological kids. They are highly responsible, smart, work hard, and like to sing. I put them in an International Private School for the first time, and they are doing great. We live in Cebu, and my wife's "family" lives in Mindanao and Manila, so we have little interference. I selectively help family members at her request and for good reasons like her father, brother, and a special pre-teen nephew who is "Einsteinian smart." He's in 5th grade, but belongs in a least junior or senior high school if not college. However, the Philippines holds these kids back and not let them skip grades regardless of how smart they are. Poor kid -- that's "educational abuse." After almost two years, my wife and I are doing very well together and having lots of fun. I fully support her, and she is now attending a special 1-year University degree program in Business. Yes, the Philippines expertise in inefficiency and ludicrous requirements can get very frustrating for Americans. Example: At a domestic adoption meeting with adoption officials, I was told I have to get a letter from my 32-year-old son in the U.S. giving his now 72-year-old father permission to adopt my two step daughters here in the Philippines. Wow. It gets worse from there.
Inspiring! I’m 71, and am chatting with two Filipinas age 31, and 26, both with one son. I’m not greedy, I just want one of them, but feel that I need to meet them both, before I decide.

It is good the Philippines holds smart kids back. By the time these children are 20 95% are burnt out and do nothing with their life. Just because you are educationally ready for university it doesn't mean you're emotionally ready. You needsocialising with other children, and time to learn to operate in society. Very very few accelarated children shine as adults and most cointries now do not allow this accelarated learning for the benefit of the children...
@@robinkelly1770 There are many factors that determine whether it is good or bad to hold kids back. A few are national culture, individual maturity, natural intelligence, and government policies of meritocracy vs equity, etc. In my U.S. experience in Elementary and High School, I've seen the good and bad of advancing students (Skipping a grade(s), or advancing normally to the next class (e.g., advancing from 6th grade to 7th grade after completing 6th grade. Overall, I found that by far, the majority of disruptive students and troublemakers in school were some of the smartest students -- perpetually in detention hall. They were bored to death. If they were permitted to advance and skip a grade or two, they might have been challenged. Unfortunately, some dropped out of High School. We have 14-year olds in college doing very well. In the U.S., we have over a million students age 14-17 in college. They advance by their academic and emotional readiness. We do not artificially hold them back, that can demoralize a kid. On the other hand, not passing a student to the next grade can equally demoralize and demotivate a kid. There was a kid in elementary school where the teachers, guidance counselors and Principal, year after year, had to decide whether or not to keep him in the same grade another year due to low grades. They decided to pass him to the next grades. He had no discipline problems. Decades later, the kid ended up being a successful doctor. I do not believe it is good for a smart and motivated student to be artificially kept down and prevented from advancing, and do consider it educational and personal abuse.
@@barrydanish6008 Be very careful in choosing. You really have to "learn" the girls and their family and kids. Who is better able and dedicated to help take care of YOU if something happens? Who is more mature and hones? I had a 26-year-old with a kid who drove me nuts for many reasons, and it didn't work out. Luckily I found a 35-year-old who was perfect. The Filipina Pea UA-cam channel is excellent for foreigners, and Pea has interviewed many classes and types of Philippine girls from the City and Province, all different age groups. Listen to those interviews on what the girls like, want, and what they have to offer you.
The first time I watched this video I was home alone and I was very impressed, it ticked a lot of boxes for me. When my wife got home we watched it together, it helped us both realize our communication problems. We now have a better understanding of each other

I'm happy for you two! I have been married to an American husband for 37 years. I also have daughter from my previous relationship when I met my husband. She was five when we got married.. My husband and I have two daughters and three grandchildren. We're in our 60s and still happy and loving each other. Good luck to you both.

And you are correct, it is a huge decision to get involved with a Pinay. But doesn't the same apply to women from any culture? I've lived all over the world and am convinced if one is fortunate enough to meet the "right" Pinay, there is no other culture that can equal the Pinay. Sincere best wishes on your journey.

Quick question about dating a Filipina, is it normal for a girl from over there (she is 35) is be so quickly to express that she is in love with you so quickly, especially when you haven't meet yet and after only a few weeks of talking together daily as I felt it was a red flag. She is very nice and seems very honest and level headed but just quickly to go down the I love you trach lol.

They seem great together. Communication is always a challenge, even with same cultured male and females living together. It takes time to melt together and smooth out the rough edges. I was married to a Persian for 23 years had the same problem and she spoke great English by the way.

Hello this is Michael who was interviewed. Yes I initially did look uncomfortable didnt I. Ha ha But I wasnt. I believed this type of honest interview might help others who planned to come here or are living here to have a reality check on life here. After living in many countries all over the world I firmly believe the correct Pinay is a wonderful option for someone as nuts as Ive been and sometimes am.

Later in the interview you mentioned spending time in other parts of the world and I was thinking you are fortunate to be so well-traveled. After 54 years, my first anticipated trip out of the US was to India a few months ago and now I know I have to stop chasing the dollar and start living by retiring soon instead of later. Another great interview, Paul! Michael and Vhie seem to be two very level-headed people and Vhie is communicating much better in English than she gives herself credit for. Waiting a year before becoming exclusive may be a bit extreme, but it certainly beats moving in together after one week. I think they are in a win/win relationship. Vhie is so lucky that she found a man who is really willing to embrase this daughter he didn't father and Michael is lucky to become part of a family that doesn't treat him like an ATM machine. I wish them every luck in life and hope their relationship will continue to flourish as they age.

Very interesting and useful interview especially for American retirees choosing to retire in the Philippines.....one suggestion from me would be for the expat to try and learn some basic Philippine words and expressions used in the area where one lives....also it is quite misleading to expect Filipinas to understand what the Expat means just because her English is good. American English is different from Filipino English just like American English is different from British English or Australian English.

Marrying a filipina and living with her in the USA is the best of both worlds, especially for an old guy like me. . In my case, she earns 10 times what she could at home, so I can just do part time. We live in a cheap place, Oklahoma, with a 3% mortgage and I have medicare. She loves shopping estate and garage sales, hunting for bargains. Our expenses would not be much less in the philippines. But you can't earn anything over there.
Mine is accountant from caloocan 130k usd a year income Its all hers I never touch it. She dont touch my millions.. We live humbly rent . worth close to 3 million combined. well over 200k income.. and over 100k rolled over yearly investments.. She doesnt want my wealth, she will earn her own. frugal sure is super smart. Treats me like gold great english.. They are out there..

One very important point is age. I'm not talkin about age gap, but the age of the Filipina. She was 31 and he was 67 when they met 6 years ago. I think it's critical for a man in his late 50's or 60's to find a Filipina 30 or older. That might not guarantee a successful relationship, but it could definitely help avoid some of the pitfalls dating or marrying a more immature women. Increasing your odds of maintaining a long term relationship can save you a lot of stress, headache and heartache. As a retired guy I wish to avoid stress, headache and heartache. Peace, relaxation and harmony is my goal.

Great interview... my wife and I have the exact same age difference. We are married and in the U.S. now, but we lived in Manila for 7 mo., near her family. Lots of the 'issues' they discussed are the same for us. It was refreshing to hear their perspectives. Mike's answer on their daughter is just true....love. Public display of anger is always a NO NO because it spreads negativity and toxicity. It's like a bomb. Although you didn't threw it to a particular person, it feels as though that you have. It also speaks a lot about a persons EQ. Being able to control yourself is power. When you're angry, your goal is to hurt someone (although indirectly), hence, i believe it's strength when you're able to hold your feelings and reflect and be able to communicate without anger.
They hit on some really important points. Anybody in a cross cultural relationship should watch this, and learn from it.

I’m 46 and married to my Filipina and she’s 28 and also has a daughter and I also accept her as my daughter. I grew up in the US and was taught that these age gaps was a bad thing BUT being here in the Philippines and seeing the different relationships of both same age and age gaps and one thing is standing out to me and that is that relationships with older men and a younger woman seems to work out much better than same age relationships. I thought I was going to have issues with my age gap with my wife but it turns out to be the best relationship I’ve ever been in.
It's not only a US thing it's all around the world. Even in Japan and South Korea age gaps are sort of frowned upon. Many are judgemental family and friends.
Mostly in the Visayas Regions. Not really in Luzon specially in the northern parts.

Ang if you have noticed. Mostly young Filipina marrying older foreign guy has a child/children. Mostly Filipinos doesn't want to take good care other man's children. Westerners are more open minded when it comes to marrying a woman with kids.

I don't understand why it should be taboo to Give her money when you are old enough to be her Grandpa. I'm an older woman who has a relationship with a much older guy while in University. But if I didn't have financial needs, Would Not have chosen someone so old as a partner. I'm 71 and feel that it's only a fair exchange, youth for money. None of you old guys wouldn't think it's fair in the states or Europe.

Paul, for you and your guest, dating someone about 30 yrs younger than you has worked out rather well. For me, in my 60's, I would not look for anyone under 40. I would play the probabilities that we would have more in common than with someone in their 20's. Someone in theirs 30's would also cause me some concern as well, but both of you have beaten the odds.
I am surprised that I did not hear that us foreigners should learn the language. To some extent it is pointless due to the numbers of languages, but if you are living in a certain area it would be nice to learn some of the language.

This was the best video I have ever watched regarding relationships between foreigners and Filipinas. The reason I state this is that I was married to a beautiful and sweet Filipina and. …… I blew it. 😔, and I have to live with that the rest of my life. This video gives great insight into almost all aspects, positive and negative, involving a relationship with a filipina.
Every aspect you discussed with this great couple made me reflect back on my own relationship and the mistakes I made. Even though my relationship failed, I remain friends with my ex wife and her entire family (including extended family), and I will love her forever. Great job Paul.

Great interview Paul.They both had some interesting perspectives on their relationship . Her point about speaking slowly and using simple words is well taken. What I believe is that many understand English better than they speak it. I have the same problem with Spanish so I can relate. Also cussing and shouting is not necessary but unfortunately many young people nowadays use the F word in normal conversation. I can tell she is making an effort to have a good grasp of the English language. I'm sure he has also helped her in this regard.👍🏼🏝️
Old unhappy guys also use "colorful" language quite often as well-LOL (Not talking about u Paul-HAHA). But i am sure many Filipinas here that from groups of grumpy expats in PH
I see on "every man has a story" that a woman was just murdered in Dumaguete, Philippines in broad daylight. A man asked for money from a Filipino woman and she just kept walking. He ran up behind her and stabbed her in the back of the neck and she died on the way to the hospital. Everyone else on the street called the police and arrested the man. Be safe Paul.

As an American of Mexican descent (first generation) I find many of the customs of the Philippines familiar. To this include social customs.
Of course, I wonder how out of place I would feel in the Philippines? Or will an easier transition for me versus someone outside of the Spanish/Mexican/Latin American culture?
That would be something interesting to look into.
Also, please follow up with a red flag episode. That would be very helpful.

Very Good Interview! Many of your questions I found to be quite insightful.
The biggest and bestest bit of advice I heard was to take things slowly. As a tradesman I've always pushed to get things done quickly, but for this dating experience I can see that slowly wins the race.

She is 28 and I am 63.
That sounds like a lot , but for us it isn’t.
She has a 7 year old daughter who I treat as my own.

Good interview. 👍. The couple showed how and why their relationship lasted this long and why I think it may endure the test of time. I appreciate the fact that Michael didn’t get a younger partner just because he wanted her to take care of him when the time comes that he’ll be needing a caregiver . I also like the fact that when there’s an argument , she stays quite and would resort to writing her arguments so she can better express herself 😊 which may frustrate Michael but it appears to be not the case.
She is so cool. Deserves the best.
Great that their relationship appears genuine regardless of the age difference. It's amazing to me that the Filipinas who I have spoken with online, it is very difficult to guess their age as many appear much younger than they really are!👍

I loved listening to this couple. Both are insightful, engaging, and intelligent. Their discussion of their relationship explored universal themes that, to be sure, applies to ALL relationships. Great video Paul! That really helped me alot seen the dynamic and perspectives of those two. I actually have to admit I always find myself trying to change my Filipina to the way I want her to be and not just accepting the way it is in the culture in the difference in the ways. They gave me really great inside and I appreciate you my brother and thank them also for their time and sharing their story.

I've been watching your chanel from the start Paul...and that is without doubt the best and most insightful interview on Foreigner/Filipina relationships that I've seen anywhere....It's easy to see why these two are still together after 6 years...they've overcome the two biggest problems....communication and understanding.....as a fellow Irishman of a certain age Michael and V have given me great hope that my own search will be successful 😊
In Ireland you are correct, we share a lot with Philippine culture. I certainly wasn't looking for the joys, pains, responsibilities, and challenges of a long term relationship when I first met Vhie. Until then, my idea of "long term" was dinner Friday evening to breakfast on Monday morning. Perhaps if you stop looking, love may come and sit gently on your shoulder before you're even aware of its mystical presence.
