My take on Past Alear is similar to Shadow Pokémon in the Colosseum and XD games. Shadow Pokémon are meant to be killing machines that have lost all emotions. The only way to free Shadow Pokémon is to “re-open” their hearts.
Alear’s story here with Lumera basically amounts to that.
