    Rami, with Pix4Dcatch and LiDAR+Photogrammetry, you always want to slow down and move the camera very slowly, when pointing to areas further away (for example, the roof soffits in your example here). Also, if you set the overlap to about 90% in settings, this is a big help because terrestrial photogrammetry needs a lot more overlap than very consistent aerial.

    Wow, this is such a cool way to get a unique perspective on the world around us! Using drone data in combination with iPhone data really adds an extra layer of depth and detail to the footage. Great job!

    As a surveyor myself I would like to comment, using a different workflow with just a drone can yield much greater results than being shown. I have P4RTK with GNSS Rover and Pix4D. I agree that under the roof is extremely difficult to capture with the drone, however It is possible to get much more from the drone than this. The P4RTK is an extremely capable drone, it should be given more of a fighting chance than this.
    No hate towards you Rami, I really enjoy some of your videos.

      I believe he was showing that you don’t have to fly super low to capture your oblique imagery if you have an iPhone and viaDoc. There are many ways to do this type of project. For me I use a DJI M300 RTK with a Rock Robotic R2A LiDAR payload and walk around the house with a NavVis VLX. Depends on what hardware you have or can rent.

    • @bombaclad8632
      @bombaclad8632 2 роки тому

      @@scottkarlins Thats fair what you are saying. I just think that people looking for information on this drone before buying or renting could be lead slightly astray. I think its just fair to the drone to mention that with the proper workflow very good results can be achieved.

    • @bombaclad8632
      @bombaclad8632 2 роки тому

      @@scottkarlins On a side note, how do you find the VLX, im finding in my country its been fairly badly marketed. They are trying to sell it as a replacement to all the other scanners on the market. I use a Leica P40 and RTC360 on a regular basis, and I was basically told I can sell them off and go to the Navvis. We got a hands on of the data from it on a site versus a Riegl VZ400i and it didnt even compare.

    • @scottkarlins
      @scottkarlins 2 роки тому

      @@bombaclad8632 Which country are you from? I can tell you the datasets are very nice. However it is not a full replacement for a terrestrial laser scanner! The VLX does a lot, and it is best indoors. For outdoor, you need vertical assets in order to not get drift or a SLAM break. You also will need control for very large indoor and very large outdoor areas in order to validate your datasets. I regularly fuse aerial LiDAR, TLS and VLX data, and with control it works amazingly well. Contact me on LinkedIn if you want to discuss further. Happy to talk shop!

    Great video Rami! Have you tried bracketed exposures from the drone to increase information captured in the shadows? Brackets capture “correct” exposure, and then a number of stops under and over from the same position to give you more dynamic range. Because you have positional data from each image you don’t need to process them as a HDR to add the images to the dataset like you would if you were using the images in traditional photography.

    • @jerseyshoredroneservices225
      @jerseyshoredroneservices225 2 роки тому

      I don't know if the rtk corrected positioning would be good enough to align bracketed exposures but the software could probably do it the same way it does other alignment, by matching up common points.
      He could achieve the same thing a lot easier by shooting on a cloudy day lol. The p4p camera has been a consistent source of frustration for me with its limited dynamic range and poor performance in low light/ high ISO situations :-(
      I wish it didn't cost so much to fly an SLR 😩

    Thanks for sharing this interesting video! It would be quite interesting if you could test this approach on a natural enviroment (e.g. trees), and then check if you can get "clear" pointcloud to extract insights regarding tree height, diameter etc.

      Vegetation is difficult because leaves move with the wind or breezes. Since he is in Michigan, a project like you describe would be more possible during the winter when leaves fall off the trees but would be harder because batteries don't last as long in the cold.

    Rami another great presentation! Truly well done. Keep this up! Q 4 U. I have an iPhone 13 Pro and I am wondering if I should wait for the iPhone 15 before I purchase the viDoc unit. Thoughts? Also I have the Emlid Reach RS2+ as well as the DJI D-RTK2. Which of these units are better fit to be used with viDoc? I bought the DJI RTK to be used with my Matrice 300 and I am wondering if the viDoc can utilize that as its base or not. Thanks!

    1) in drone method we reconstruct pointcloud from images...so do we still need RTK instead increase the image overlaping ...
    2) Using phone lidar with RTK... what about the accuracy for the objects that have slope with certain angle...eg. at the excavation projects

    Any reason why you didn't mention DJI Mobile RTK base station option? The whole reason for a Phantom 4 RTK is the ability to do without GCPs... Also - if you are going to push PIX4D then you should ideally mention alternatives like Agisoft's Metashape...

    I am looking to do stockpile surveys inside of warehouses. The lighting is poor and can be dusty. The roof does have lights and trusses that can be obstructive and are at a range of 30' to 35' above grade. the stockpiles we are looking to model are 25' x 100' or 50' x 100' and up to 20' in height. I am using a Mavic 3e and drone deploy but keep having issues with the images properly linking together into one model. Any tips?
