I have to say, the scene with the different chefs sharing their experiences is a very important one. Having worked in the restaurant industry my whole life, it really brings out a deep connection between the show and the real industry. One of my favorite things about this season of The Bear was their use of real high end chefs (particularly Thomas Keller at the beginning of this episode). It really was a magical experience for anyone with the knowledge of this industry in the real world.

@@SamClark05 I can understand that, I just feel like we already got that connection and the show was able to achieve that without sacrificing the quality of storytelling.

I think it was so important to show that, yes, Carm did have good teachers too; healthy positive mentors. And yet the one that permeated into how he runs his own kitchen was the worst one. He has to reckon with the fact that for all the pain and suffering he endured, that's the same energy he's still carrying forward. Even surrounded by friends and good influences, he is still disengaged and hyperfixated on the one person that makes him feel worthless. The one person that twisted his passion into something ugly.

I think it was a fantastic season, more focused than people give it credit for. The overarching theme of the whole season was reconciliation and moving on: Richie coming to terms with the fact that Tiff is remarrying, Natalie fully reconciling with Donna, Donna finally apologizing and showing that she cares, etc...
The point of the last episode was to be the climax of Carmen's confrontation of his own past and trauma, and I believe it succeeded in doing so (although it cut without resolution which feels gross)
Counterpoint number 1: The other chefs discussing their experiences in the kitchen and what motivated them was absolutely *essential* to the episode; it not only adds gravity to Carmen's bad experiences, but it shows how truly tunnel-visioned in on his trauma Carmen is. If you look back at the episode every time someone reminisces on times they were motivated or inspired by their peers, either Carmy or Sydney will flash back to times they've been discouraged, and showing that contrast between the kind of environment Carmen could be fostering and the kind he actually is due to his trauma is incredibly important for both characters' developments.
Counterpoint number 2 (nitpick, literally just a tiny detail): I actually really liked the music choice for the David Fields confrontation scene, the song is "Just One More Day" by Otis Redding. Sort of "Just give me an hour alone in a room with this asshole" sort of energy while still matching the vibe of the dinner. Personal preference sort of thing tho.
Overall, the David scene didn't seem to resolve much, but I think thats something that we'll see in season 4 . So far Carmen has been repeating the rhetoric of David sometimes literally word for word, and I think the scene helped him realize that he is Sydney's David. It also gives some weight to Sydney's (maybe?) decision to leave since Carmy will be fully committed to being the opposite of what he's experienced now I believe.

as for your first point, i completely agree with how crucial the scene was for carmy and his past, i can totally see why people would like that scene, i just personally have found other parts of the show to deal with characters' pasts in a more tasteful way, i totally missed the connection of carmen being sydney's david, that's an amazing point

    You're a great writer, dude!
I must respectfully disagree about the scene with the background characters. I believe they add a layer of realism that helps the show feel more relatable and authentic.
Totally agree with the take about the season not being filler like everyone is saying, I think it absolutely served its purpose in the best way possible to bring us to the same stagnant point Carmy is in asking himself: is this going anywhere?
