      What you see is more white bubbles than water .The real wave the ship creates (the dark water) is very low.

    Obviously its a designer's mistake to not make wave/splash deflector! In calm sea on full speed all water splashes go to bridge windows. Epic fail!

    It seems to me that the bow design allows for a lot of water going over the ship. The window wipers do have a full time job.

      It was a spray rail test. The results of this video lead ti the rail being relocated higher than this position and the result was ideal - no more spray in calm water at 28 knots. Thank you

      what you see is more white bubbles than (massive) water. the actual wave caused by the ship (dark water , not the foam) is very low.

    I understand this design and the benefits for being able to run faster in heavy seas. My question is, is this design more efficient for displacement hulls? I have been following the Amels/Damen SeaXplorer and I'm curious if that concept can be scaled down to something like a 20 meter displacement yacht built for long distances. or even smaller like 12-15 meter. Thinking of a hull design to compete with long range trawlers like Nordhavn or Dashew FPB boats. Any Damen engineers or other marine engineers want to chime in?

    • @predator1739
      @predator1739 3 роки тому +3

      >26meter is better for the axe bow, and keep the front empty .

    • @marcmanitou4182
      @marcmanitou4182 2 роки тому +4

      Axe bow is not practical for small ocean going yachts because the nose needs to be light and can not be used for much anything else than cutting through the waves. X-bow would be more practical but needs to be high enough, so it is not practical for small boats either. For 40m + size maybe.

    • @traitorhatergetarope3163
      @traitorhatergetarope3163 Рік тому +1

      Just an opinion, I think it would be a little more efficient if they could keep the bow up, stop the porpoising. Looks like it created a pressure area every time the bow went down. Sick vessel, though .

      The 'axe' bow trades a smoother ride for more spray. Though yes a spray sheild of some description would be good.
      And i would like to see her in rougher seas for which they are designed.

    this sea axe design is instead of, or better than, the bulb design that i seen in other ships to make way through water and obtain higher speeds.

    • @BrassLock
      @BrassLock 8 років тому +5

      Looks very messy even in a calm sea - huge amounts of spray thrown upwards and onto wheelhouse. Is this an "improvement" over traditional bow design?

    • @antallen1319
      @antallen1319  7 років тому +2

      Very observant Dav - DAMEN Cape Town reviewed this footage and the spray rails were repositioned giving her much dryer decks on flat water high-speed runs.

      Bulbous bows only work at low speed and specific speeds; so only
      work on slower vessels on a time sensitive charter such as an intermodal or a bulk
      carrier. Also, bulbous bows do not make the vessel faster it only saves energy which can only make a considerable saving on larger ships.

    It has like 2 spray rails on the bow which do nothing to deflect spray down.... terrible design

  • @carmelpule6954
    @carmelpule6954 6 років тому

    It could so with a wide spray deflector at the front end, but it would have to be very strong, I suggest an inclined Vee shaped spray deflector running on what appears to be a horizontal collision buffer would suit the purpose of spray deflection and might I add, the ramming efficiency......... perhaps I should not have said that, sorry for that as it would be rather cruel on you know who.

    This thing hits solid ice just a foot or so thick and it will quitelike just STOP, albeit with some serious hull damage. Ships designed for ice clogged waters do not use a straight vertical hull. They are designed to ride up onto it and NOT INTO it.

    • @antallen1319
