Lina Morgana the song was originally on her album blackout and it was supposed to be the last single for it. But then she started working on circus and the single was canceled because she started to do promo for circus literally just months after blackout was released. And instead the song was put on circus as a “bonus track” so it could be release as the last single for that album. That’s why this song and video was released as an “official” single until the summer of 2009 for circus instead of blackout. For what I read, the writers gave this song to Britney with the only condition that it has to be release as single.

Story time: "Radar" was recorded in November 2006, the day after Britney filed for divorce from Kevin Federline. She arrived late to the studio but ended up surprising the producers with her work ethic and professionalism. It was originally planned to be released as the third single off "Blackout" but "Break the Ice" was chosen by fans instead. It was then planned to be the fourth single and a video was set to be shot in London with the concept being Britney and her friends chasing a man in different clubs. That release was cancelled as well as Britney had already started working on her next album "Circus". However, the song proved to be one of the most popular songs off "Blackout" as it managed to chart in several countries based on digital downloads alone without being a single, which was extremely rare at that time (for example, it peaked at #8 in Sweden in 2008). The producers of the song were promised that "Radar" would be released as an official single so the song was eventually included as a bonus track on "Circus" and was released as the fourth and final single off that album instead. Its music video was directed by Dave Meyers, who had previously worked with Britney for the videos for "Lucky", "Boys" and the unreleased "Outrageous". It was inspired by Madonna's "Take a Bow" video and was supposed to show a more "classy" side of Britney during a time where she was heavily criticized by the media.

I disagree, it would’ve done a lot better during the Blackout era as it was fresh and new, it was old and already overplayed by fans for 18 months when they finally released Radar as the last single from Circus 2 years later. If all of your fan base already has already been playing the song from Blackout for 18 months and you release it again on the next album, it’s obviously going to flop.

Lina Morgana the song was originally on her album blackout and it was supposed to be the last single for it. But then she started working on circus and the single was canceled because she started to do promo for circus literally just months after blackout was released. And instead the song was put on circus as a “bonus track” so it could be release as the last single for that album. That’s why this song and video was released as an “official” single until the summer of 2009 for circus instead of blackout. For what I read, the writers gave this song to Britney with the only condition that it has to be release as single.
