Fabulous installment! I love the borrowing concept. There's so much room to explore, I can't see how anyone would describe it as anything other than a true game changer. Of course, that presumes that a person is listening and paying attention to how the voices are moving. I think this is a very underappreciated aspect of the art of guitar
Excellent lesson! Have you ever looked into Ted Greene's baroque improvisation videos on UA-cam before? Barry said that what we are doing is similar to 4 part harmony or figured bass. Since all of the voicings we talk about have 4 or fewer voices, and your classical background, I thought that you might get something out of it.
Thanks! I’ve seen one or two but wasn’t really into what I was hearing/seeing. I improvise baroque counterpoint all the time tho;) I’ve done a few little labs that go into it a little bit, but haven’t gotten around to doing more on that subject, which I’ll return to at some point. It’s baked into everything in this channel, in a way. Just takes a few considerations to accomplish
@TheLabyrinthofLimitations I would be very interested to hear more about that. I wonder, sometimes, how a Barry person would approach figured bass or partimento pieces. My score reading isn't great, but I love to figure out how the mechanics of music work. Thanks for the response and, of course, the content.
Great, Thomas! Just cannot find the words to pair with the feeling. A wholehearted "thank you". I think I should rearrange my studies. I'll begin from episodes 1 and 2 and then 16 (got the PDFs) then maybe the octatonic? What do you suggest?
Yes I advise rotating around the material of the first episodes with the PDFs + the elevator episode. But it’s a spiral curriculum, so learning about anything is learning about everything. 3rds will make you better at bigger chords, dominant 7 flat five will make you better at the minor 6 diminished. That’s my experience of it. Nothing is wasted time with this stuff. But the pdf episodes are meant to give the fundamental ground that can be referred to when doing the little labyrinths. In a way, most of the pdf episodes are like the individual chess moves, whereas the little labyrinths are about exploring tactics, so to speak
Great! One of my favorite Barry recordings. Perfect tempo. Thanks man
Muchas gracias!!!
