Hey dear..I was looking for a video to help change the battery in my 2018 Ford Escape and came across your video and let me tell you, I followed everything step by step EXACTLY how you did and successfully changed my own battery..and I’m a female! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for your help..blessings upon you 😃
Thanks for this video. Just what I needed. I appreciate you thinking of cleaning the lower window before putting the cowling back on to ensure a nice seal on the rubber. I wouldn't have thought of that. I'm heading outside now to take this on. Thanks again.
I think it's much easier if you just remove the air filter box, the side of the battery box is designed to fold down (on mine anyway) and you can slide the battery out after removing the negative, positive and hold down bar.
On the start/stop models with AGM batteries they’re a bit taller and getting that negative terminal nut loose was such a pain 😢 only do it if you have the normal battery
@@tarikbosniangod1864 If you look to the right, the negative battery cable isn't long. You can unbolt it where it connects to the body and pull the battery out with the negative still attached. Swap it to the new one before you install it.
@@AT-wl9yq I remember un hooking that negative terminal ground just to find that it was tangled in a different wire harness ;( at that point I should have just took the whole cowl off. That’s what I’m doing for future agm escapes, it’ll be way faster than trying to fish that terminal out.
I might be getting ready to change my battery, I’m going to look into doing it thru the breather box but I’ll tell you, taking the wipers off and that plastic isn’t that hard. The wife and I had to do that before.
Here's a battery terminal cleaning wire brush tool tip: Purchase 2 of them. In my experience, the negative post is always smaller than the positive so label your two tools (or put electrical tape on them) so that you always use the same one for each. Otherwise, your one tool will never clean the positive side quite as well as the negative. You're welcome. 😊 👍🏻 🇺🇸
Thats why I hate the newer cars, but then again its "ALL" our fault "we" dont want cars that last nowadays people wont keep their cars for more than 5 yrs, so its our fault. I have a 2001 Ram 1500 with about 200K miles and a 2006 Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins and they still keep on going!
I found a lot of corrosion on the terminals so I looked it up and putting dielectric grease on after you tighten up the conversations is supposed to stop that from happening. Also the battery doesn't charge right tell you reset the battery monitor system which is easily done sitting in the drivers seat. You tube video's on that also.
Any time you remove the wiper arms, you run the risk of the wiper motors losing they're programming. If that happens, you'll need a factory scanner, or something close to it, to recalibrate the motors. The calibration procedure is in the workshop manual. You need that as well.
There are orange lines on the windshield to align the wiper blades.. I found this out after the windshield was replaced and the guy could not get them right. Thanks for the video
You can mark the wiper position with a tape and a Sharpie. For the most part the wiper shafts are splined so you may have to take the arms off and reposition them as necessary.
The lines on the windshield are used in the procedure for reprogramming the wiper motors. Your vehicle has 2 wiper motors and are not linked together. You need to use a scan tool to reprogram them.
Thank you for showing the actual battery removal lmao first time changing my battery and of course this is the car I have. I got everything taken off and everyone skipped the battery part and I was so nervous 🤣
The ground cable has a BMS circuit that the corrosion usually takes out, along with the 2-pin sensor wire & connector. Those are worth rep, acing at the same time. Otherwise when corrosion breaks them down the car will not start. You also have to do a BMS reset with an OBDII interface cable & software like FORscan . This tells the system it’s a new battery. Otherwise intermittent things start happening, like wipers not working.
There’s a way to do it without a scan tool. I wonder if it’s even necessary. I’ve did a manual reset and on a few I did nothing. The power is disconnected while changing the battery so the ECM will need to relearn anyway. Also, it’s only going to give what the battery needs no matter how old it is….
The wiper motors lost their programming at some point when you were working on it. You have to reprogram them with a scan tool. If you check the workshop manual, it gives you instructions on how to do it.
My project is trying to disconnect the negative battery cable in order to clear & "reset" the transmission scheme. Will disconnecting the battery neg / ground where it is bolted to the firewall enough to clear out & "reset" the transmission scheme memory settings, or will the cable connected at the negative battery post also need to be disconnected too?
Well done, quick to the point and no extra BS. Watched several where you take out the air box, I like your way better. Apparently you can put a larger battery in, you just have to take out the spacer at the front of the battery box. When it warms up I'll give it a try, thanks again.
Thank you for this comment. I never would've thought something so odd would need to be done. The automobile industry has just gotten absurd with their insane designs. 😐 🇺🇸
This is the problem with these you tubers they don’t tell you everything because they are not mechanics wonder how many people changed theirs without reset
Something I never thought I'd EVER hear anyone say: Yeah, I'm just swapping out the car battery. Let me unbolt my MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR now... 🤬 #AutomobileManufacturersSuck 🇺🇸
This method of removing the wipers and plastic trays was super easy on my 2014 but unfortunately I first tried the method of removing the air box and it was a total bummer and I just couldn’t get it done. And reassembling the air box was a total drag.
Hey whenever they replaced your windshield did they install new gaskets down the left and right side?? My wife's escape has then sort of cracking up on some spots
They did not replace the gaskets. I actually had some issues with the passenger side, and I ended up putting some clear silcone on that side to stop some wind/whistling noise.
😮 0:54 FIRST TRY?!? 😮 As Gozer from Ghostbusters would ask, "Are you a god?" 😮 That was uh-MAZING! 😄 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 On another note, just like with electronics, the automotive designers apparently have as their mantra, "The more idiotic, the better." 😐 Hats off to ya' for making this video. I get to tackle this absurd task Wednesday... 🤞🏻 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Sorry about the 20,000 comments but I just couldn't resist. 😁 One question for ya' not related to the actual battery job... what kind of camera is that you had mounted on your head? It doesn't have that absurd fisheye look of GoPro cameras... 🤔 🇺🇸
It does on our 2019 Escape. I've been in there for a few things over the time we've owned it and when it came time to do the battery, I chose the method to remove the air cleaner housing and remove the front of the battery box like you mentioned...it came right out that way. I didn't have to do anything with the cowl or wipers. But as a note, if you do remove the wiper blades, there are alignment marks on the windshield that show you exactly where to park them when you put them back on...that helps make sure they're 100% spot on.
I'm trying to get to 1,000 subscribers. Hit the subscribe and like button if this helped you out.
I love the way you pulled the battery out instead of having to take the front holder thingy out, thanks!
Thanks. Hope it helped you out.
30 minutes really not bad considering all involved in replacing it. I hope you and yours have a great thanksgiving my friend!
Have a great Holiday season too Nate!

Why is this shit acceptable? People need to stop buying Fords. You shouldnt have to disassemble all of this just to change a battery.

You didn't tell people that they need to reset their BMS or damage to the new battery may occur from overcharging.
