- In honor of Tina Turner's passing on May 24th, here's the Madison Square Garden performance of Ike & Tina Turner (opening for the Rolling Stones) with Janis Joplin. Sorry about the audio but it's not that bad for a bootleg recorded in the late 60s. Can't remember where I got this but I'm quite sure(?) this is the real deal. The recording cuts off halfway and then segues into the part where Janis jumped on stage and the crowd went nuts. I'm pretty sure I can hear both Tina and Janis in the second part despite the sound quality. I compared this version to the one in the officially released CD (Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!) and they're definitely not the same. Here's me hoping for an official release of this legendary performance.
Enjoy! xoxo
November 1969 - I was there. Ike & Tina opened for the Stones, who were at their peak 3 weeks before Altamont. Janis jumped up on stage & started singing with Tina. That big fur hat was hiding her hair and lots of people didn't know who she was or what was going on until she pulled the hat off & all her hair came tumbling out. It was just wild. I was 17 years old...
Terry Reid was the opener..then bb king then Ike and tina
@lifesabeach714 yes indeed. What a great line-up of bands!
My dad was there as well! He was 18
I’m trying to find Tina turner and Janis live with no luck
@@lifesabeach714 is there a dvd of the concert somewhere ?
GOOD LORD! This is the Joplin Holy Grail!! Where did you find it? I've heard recordings that claim to be the Turner-Joplin duet but they definitely are not. This one, I'm convinced, is the real deal. Moonfall, could you tell us about yourself and how you came to find this recording? I've been told the Joplin Estate has been looking for a recording of this for ages (now if only film of the event would show up!)
The two greatest singers of all centuries. Soundtrack of my life.
Wow the 2 queens of Rock and Roll together, is to bad was not footage. RIP for this 2 legends 🙏
OMG OMG OMG!!! I literally cannot believe what I’m hearing!! This is freaking AMAZING!!! I didn’t think anything existed of this performance!! @@Gurci28 Wait, that's Janis?!!! Cool!
It's wild! It's a miracle!
Do you have Ike & Tina’s full set from this performance?? Or just this song??
Sadly, this is the only track I found from the Nov. 27 show (2nd night). But luckily, their full set from the 1st night (without Janis) was included in the 40th anniversary release of Get Yer Ya-Yas Out! in 4 discs. It's in disc 3 along with B.B. King's set:

@@Gaffahead Well this one track is DEFINITELY good enough in my opinion!! I still can’t believe this exists!! I never thought I’d live to see the day this iconic performance surfaced!!! Thank you so much again!
@@logantyrelle97 You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
@@Gaffahead JIMI HENDRIX was also at MSG this night: NOVEMBER 27 1969, backstage hangin out with the STONES. A birthday present from DEVON WILSON. There`s footage here on youtube.
OH MY GOD!!!
You have a link for other version.. you mentioned.thanks.
Exactly where do you hear Janis?
1:40 for the na-na-nas and adlibs up to 2:11
thanks, but if you notice, there is a break right before the 1:40 mark, and there is a recording of Janis singing Land of 1000 dances from New Year's Eve in 67. It sounds like that was cleverly edited in.
@@scottmerrell4507 Yes I did mention that break in the description. I also happen to have that BBHC recording from New Year's Eve at the Winterland but there's no "Land of 1000 Dances" track in there. Maybe Janis sang that song live at some point but I don't have any audio boots to prove it. I have also tried looking for audio boots of Ike & Tina Turner's Madison Square Garden performance to no avail until I found this one. The sound quality seems consistent despite that suspicious gap in the recording, not to mention the audience's reaction so maybe(?) this is the real deal? I'd love to be proven wrong though.
@Gaffahead I do have the Winterland NYE jam that does contain land of 1000 dances. Its not that I want to prove you wrong, I would love to hear their performance together, but I think the Janis part is edited in.
1; 45 on wards😂😂😂😂😂
