Tina was maybe was one of the first to to dance, with an eclectic voice. Nice video.

What happened in the Bronx in the mid- to late 70's was that during dance parties - at which a DJ would play old funk records, preferably with a good ear for the best breaks and loop them - an MC (Master of Concert) would introduce the DJ, often in the form of a rap, *just like Sammy Davis Jr. is doing here.* In other words, a rhymed rhythmic presentation - a *rap* - was already a long established form of expression when hip hop got started.

Besides the incredible vocals, Tina was in charge of the dance routines too, and worked with the Ikettes to put them together. These were very hard working ladies who took their responsibilities seriously. Notice how great they looked; the act was beyond exciting but never cheap. There is a difference. It already was evident at this point Tina would become one of the greatest stars in show business.

I saw her live in Ipswich UK in the early 80's. What a privilege! She was just the most powerfully sexy person I'd ever seen. She didn't really need a microphone! The legs, the voice, the moves, the attitude AND a lovely person. She had it all.

Fantastic performance! Ike and Tina Turner were the real deal. One of the best live acts of all time. Tina was a force and Ike cultivated her talent. B.B. King said Ike was the best bandleader he ever saw. The Ikettes don't get enough credit. Those ladies had to keep up with Tina and looked pretty doing it!

I thought the choreography was very original, anyone know who designed their moves? Tina's use of the wide-legged stance seems to be all her own, and I haven't seen other acts move anything like Tina and the Ikettes.
Yeah, I would imagine it was probably a shared responsibility of the folks doing the moves. This was part and parcel of how a lot of groups did it back then as all around entertainers. Tina upped it a notch, of course. But pre-MJ/Janet troupes of background dancers that needed to have a choreographer, the Temptations, The Pips, and the like all had some surprisingly intricate choreo while singing.

Tina's raw powerful raspy voice reminds me of the sheer power of Wilson Pickett's (Ninety-Nine and a Half).. Man she was something special along with the Ikettes.. got to give Ike his props too, the man could write music!

I thought the choreography was very original, anyone know who designed their moves? Tina's use of the wide-legged stance seems to be all her own, and I haven't seen other acts move anything like Tina and the Ikettes.

Yeah, I would imagine it was probably a shared responsibility of the folks doing the moves. This was part and parcel of how a lot of groups did it back then as all around entertainers. Tina upped it a notch, of course. But pre-MJ/Janet troupes of background dancers that needed to have a choreographer, the Temptations, The Pips, and the like all had some surprisingly intricate choreo while singing.
There is at least one short you tube video showing them working on moves in the dressing room.

They seem to have some kind of oral notation going on, similar is used in India for dance and drums, and in Africa for drums.

Powerful!!!! Original raw talent at it's best!!! This made me cry and gave me chills just feeling the intensity of the performance & this was 1968!! She was really ahead of her time and so was the Ikettes!! I felt this and I wasn't even born yet until 1981
