She was setup as next protagonist since 2015. And that girl dying basically means Ciri has yet to learn about human nature because Geralt would expect it and would not let her go to village alone. But this also fits into grim world of the Witcher where good do not always win. Sometimes it's all about lesser evil.
Developers have said that what we see in the trailer is based on a real quest we can play by ourselfs in the finished game. And you will be able to influence the outcome of it. You are even able to safe the life of the girl.
Witcher 3 is very clearly intended to be the end to Geralt's story - but (at least in one ending) it heavily implies that Ciri takes up the mantle and intends to become a Witcher, herself, with his blessing.
Also, in all the 3 endings for TW3 Ciri story continues (yes even the bad one, there is a painting in that ending where we see a swallow flying away from the tower, basically saying she manages to scape). So I think in TW4 the prologue will be like Cyberpunk with the lifepaths, each start point will be a future of Ciri from each ending from TW3, then all of them merge into her needing to take the mutations and becaming a full fledged witcher.
People who are mad about Ciri being the protagonist of the next game, well, they haven't read the books, and probably didn't finished Witcher 3. Ciri is such a badass, and they really portrayed that perfectly in this cinematic trailer.
@@ben0789 I mean, she's a sorceress, she could technically look however she wants. But to be honest, I'm still a bit skeptical about Cirella undergoing the Trial of Grasses. Because one, there is likely a reason that in all those centuries there were never any female Witchers - probably endocrinological ones. Secondly, there shouldn't be anyone around anymore who knows how to administer the Trial of Grasses. (Though the Witcher games already retconned that status quo.) And finally, it seems kind of unnecessary. She one of, if not _the_ most powerful sorcerer in the multiverse. Her taking a magical cocktail that has a 90% mortality rate seems kind of a unnecessary high risk for the small added benefits. But I get it from a gameplay perspective.
@@Patte-chan Well considering she is a Child of The Elder Blood, she may be able to withstand the trial of the grasses. Ciri is likely stronger than a lot of the young boys that died undergoing the trials. I believe in a developer interview they said that they wanted this game to feel like you are becoming The Witcher. SO i imagine the game will open as Ciri before she has undergone the trials. Then the game will really open up once she is a true Witcher. Also, Uma was able to withstand the trial along with the help of magic.
If you do a mini series of videos reacting to all the Witcher 3 story cutscenes in parts I would be here to watch each one! Still holds the mantle of one of the greatest games ever made.
What I liked in this trailer, is that Ciri seems to have learnt things from characters from previous stories. She has chaos magic from Yeneffer, fire chains (probably) from Triss, and "there is only monsters" lesson from Geralt. Even without showing them, they are there, in a way...
In a recent interview the devs said that this teaser trailer was meant to show the world the look and feel of The Witcher 4 and also to be used by the devs themselves as something to strive for while creating the game. This trailer was created within the game engine but it's entirely pre-rendered, and has nothing to do with the game itself which is still in early stages of development. I hope they do achieve this look and this quality in the final game though, they really nailed it.
@HannaHsOverInvested Well, meaning it's a separate thing from the game itself because the game basically does not exist atm, not in this form anyway. It takes a loooot of time and effort for a game to take a form that actually resembles how it will be at release (and I know something about it being a dev myself lol) so in the meantime stuff like this trailer can be extremely useful to use as reference, together with a ton of concept art I'm pretty sure they created.
@@HannaHsOverInvested Nothing to do with it in the same way that "A Night to Remember" and "Killing Monsters", the two Witcher 3 trailers, had nothing to do with that game either. It's just the main character doing some stuff to kinda establish the vibe of the world, but those were not missions from the game, nor were they were even referenced in the game, I believe.
@@Olochgu well, thats not entirely true, a night to remember you could have a sidequest with the vampire lady which played out a little different in game and also the place we see in killing monsters is there, the protagonists are not, but you see nilfgaardians commit atrocities elswhere, so id argue both trailers, while not being 1 to 1 to the game still gave a good impression of themes, characters and places of the final game. likewise here probably too. but yes, the first announcement trailers and the actual game are likely to be somewhat different, same with cp2077 and witcher 3 really. witcher 4 is gonna be no different i reckon.
I am looking forward to this game, but I will say that Ciri being a full Witcher now has some interesting implications from a lore perspective, either she somehow survived the Trial of the grasses (and found someone who could and would help her), or she found another way (maybe a new version of the Trial altogether).
It’s stated in the books that Yennefer could recreate the trial of grasses if given enough time to figure it out. In the games she even subjects Uma to the first part of the trial, so it doesn’t take much guessing to figure out where Ciri would have learned
@@solaire8498 Yep, also, in the games lore the School of the Cat used the trials on girls too, even if almost all of them died in the process (they didn't care since they are said to be the wrost scumbags there was) but it's said some survived, so I can imagine that Yen found their experiments notes on girls mutations and perfected or smoothed it to be less mortal. The biggest question is why, why would them let Ciri do it. Ciri of course always wanted it, but the adults arround wouldn't really let her I think. So it must be something big, like her blood is making her mad just like the last human who had it and to weaken her blood they used mutations, or something on that line, that her blood powers are harming her
@@ayoncruz Ciri is very stubborn. I think she would ask Geralt and Yen for advice, but ultimately she would make her own decision. And if she truly decided that she wanted to do that, I think Yen and Geralt would support her in her decision. If she is going to do it regardless, they would want to make sure they could help her in doing it as safely as possible. That' s just my thoughts though.
Pretty sure, I didn't play it myself, but I believe that Geralt retired at the end of Witcher 3's final DLC update, so it's Ciri's franchise now. The heir has taken the mantel.

There are often unintended side effects from it, the worst case being death. In Geralt's case, it turned his hair white.

It’s a relatively simple game with an amazing story and soundtrack about Queen Meve, a character from the books. I cannot express how amazing this game is for someone that enjoys the world of the Witcher and has read the books. Best of all, if you’re not digging the puzzle-based gameplay, you can skip those entirely to progress the story (though I do find the gameplay quite enjoyable!). It’s honestly the most underrated game ever in my opinion and despite not having too much of Geralt, it is a true gem. Here’s a trailer: ua-cam.com/video/MS3QStBZF1s/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@ben0789 IIRC, Outside of the school of the Wolf, the only other Witcher school mentioned in the books is the school of the Cat. Ciri never trained under the school of the Cat, but that of the Wolf. She claimed that witcher-amulet for herself after killing Leo Bonhart: A sadistic "badass normal" bounty-hunter and master swordsman skilled enough to have killed several witchers, whose amulets he wore as trophies.
Yeah but that really makes me sceptical. Why would she do that. She is elder blood and much more mighty then any witcher magic. I fear a little bit about the story consistency.
Despite what a lot of folks are saying, it’s not impossible for Ciri to become a Witcher. It’s NEVER said in any of the books or games that it’s impossible for girls to become witchers, but rather that it was always boys who were chosen to undergo the mutations. The books also say that, if given enough time, Yennefer or Triss could recreate the process to make witchers.
It's the wolf school trial that always killed every girl. Apparently cat school had some female witchers in the past, though much rarer, so it's was never impossible.
I think in the books it just says that Boys are much much more likely to survive the mutations, so Witchers didn't bother picking up girls to train. There has never been any mention of female Witchers in the books or games, but iirc there was mention of one in the official Witcher ttrpg, which was discontinued because the company went bankrupt, and i think that was supposed to be expanded upon in an expansion that never came out. However, in the 1st Witcher game there is a journal entry that flat out states that Rayla (a character from the books) has been subjected to the mutations after being badly wounded. So there is precedent not just for a woman to survive the mutations, but also for an adult woman to survive them, in the canon of the games.
It’s actually not true either that the cat school had female Witchers. That came from some weird tabletop Witcher game from years ago and isn’t considered part of book or game cannon
@@HannaHsOverInvestedThe open world might be less intimidating if you follow the main quest markers that tell you go here then here then here. Just don’t. Get. Distracted. 😆
I would concur this one is there to set the tone of the game rather than actually focusing on the main story. On the gameplay front we've basically established that Geralt is retired as of the end of the third game (and it's DLC expansions). Ciri has in the intervening time apparently become a full witcher. She's been acting as one in the past but has evidently picked up the mutations given the eyes and potion. I do agree with you on the sads, we've had a bit of a tragedy kick in media the last few years. I may be biased by personal taste there though.
Really enjoyed your reaction, I’m also looking forward to this one. Check out Intergalactic: The Heretic prophet! It’s the new game from the creators of the Last of Us, and has some interesting world building in the trailer so far.
Why the questions? Just watch the trailer please. It will explain everything you need. Too impatient Hannah XD "Who is this? Why are we here?" Well gee, it's a trailer, maybe let it tell you.
Her father doesn't blame Ciri, he paid her to do the job for Christ's sake... " whos's coin did he take" and he looks at the villager asking the question "
Re: this just being a small part of a larger story, that has generally been the case with Witcher game trailers before. This one reminds me of the "Killing Monsters" trailer for Witcher 3, it generally just shows off the idea that often the real monsters are humans rather than magical beasts. As far as I can remember, they've basically done a similar thing with every witcher game, haha.
im 100% with on being over all the grimdark nonsense. for various games and shows, the most prominent example i see is discussions about how "oh, well the best and most interesting thing they can do is kill this character" or "who do you think is going to die?" like it's completely going over their heads that the very fact that they're having those conversations and treating such a "twist" as a given means it's now empty and meaningless as a plot device. they also now conflate character deaths with "this story meant something" and it's so fucking exhausting to try to explain complex emotional journeys and how sometimes a character actually CHEAPENS a story
What makes me sceptical about the story: She drinks a poison in the trailer, has cat eyes and uses Igni. But why? She never was genetically modified to a real witcher. I was expecting she going as witcher with her magic of the elder blood. Curious why that's so. I fear a little bit about the story consistency here.
Geralt is retired, so Ciri takes over that's why you don't see him. But her being a Witcher has a lot of lore problems. He should also be in the game but not as main character. Also, this game will come out maybe in 2026, 2027 or later.
@@Galantus1964 Witcher mutations were made for small boys not grownup women. It was a torturing process only 3/10 survived and that knowledge was lost. Mutations also makes you sterile, and there are prophecies about Ciri offspring. So, you need to explain how/why is she a Witcher early in TW4.
Witcher 1 establishes that Black/White Rayla was subjected to the mutations by Salamandra and survived. So there is no Lore problem at all. And even if there were, with the books stating that Yen could probably recreate the trials (and her outright doing parts of it in Witcher 3), it is a very natural conclusion to assume that she could have improved them. It would also be no stretch to say that the Lynx school had improved the trial of grasses and the mutations themselves to be a smoother process, or that Ciri's elderblood allowed her to survive what she shouldn't. At the end of the day, it is already established in the game universe that it is possible for an adult woman to survive the mutations, and it's not hard to come up with a new believable explanation either.
@@frozen1762 Wanna know what else is a lore problem? The fact that Geralt and Yen died at the end of the books, and CDPR retconned that and brought them back for the games. Why are you okay with that lore change, and not Ciri being a Witcher (which isn't even a lore change)?

I cannot express how amazing this game is for someone that enjoys the world of the Witcher and has read the books. Best of all, if you’re not digging the puzzle-based gameplay, you can skip those entirely to progress the story (though I do find the gameplay quite enjoyable!). It’s honestly the most underrated game ever in my opinion and despite not having too much of Geralt, it is a true gem.
Here’s a trailer: ua-cam.com/video/MS3QStBZF1s/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

Thronebreaker love
From her pendant it looks like Ciri has revived the School of the Lynx, and from her pupils, she’s undergone the Trial of Grasses as well
What the hell is school of the lynx first time I hear about that and I read all the books
@LostinCordolium school of the lynx isn't Canon. Its a fan made school I believe
@@ben0789 ah that explains it i am ok with that new school new stories perfect
Well well well... maybe it is time to play it this time...? maybe....?
🥴🥴🥴 open world??
@@HannaHsOverInvested wind's howling....
@@HannaHsOverInvestedThe open world might be less intimidating if you follow the main quest markers that tell you go here then here then here. Just don’t. Get. Distracted. 😆
You should do a Den Of Wolves trailer reaction.
Would love to see you react to the Intergalactic trailer!
Lol being late to the party is your stick🤣
*shtick!
Thanks ,thats was funny..
Most welcome
You gotta play 3 and the dlcs and you will know whats going on.
I may be biased by personal taste there though.
i must play the game
Really enjoyed your reaction, I’m also looking forward to this one. Check out Intergalactic: The Heretic prophet! It’s the new game from the creators of the Last of Us, and has some interesting world building in the trailer so far.
We're all missing a lot.
Why is Geralt not here? Why does Ciri have Witcher abilities?
We'll have to find out 😅
Geralt isn't here because he retired. It is very obvious at the end of the 3rd game, regardless of ending.
I can hardly wait.
Why the questions? Just watch the trailer please. It will explain everything you need. Too impatient Hannah XD "Who is this? Why are we here?" Well gee, it's a trailer, maybe let it tell you.
But my friend, it is also a reaction channel. That is why I say everything I think! So you guys all know exactly how I'm reacting.
Her father doesn't blame Ciri, he paid her to do the job for Christ's sake... " whos's coin did he take" and he looks at the villager asking the question "
I feel dumb for not catching that. Ahh well.
@@HannaHsOverInvested don't be. i write that same thing to all the " witcher nerds" who don't catch it either....
The Netflix show, even in its best moments, is utter garbage compared to the books and games.
Triss was cool in season 1... And it makes me very sad that she sucks everywhere else

Obviously you're just _fashionably_ late to the party!
That's how I roll!
You seem to have a tendency to misunderstand quite clear story beats.
Really? Someone said I missed that the dad paid ciri and that's true. I don't think I do it a lot though do I? That's very interesting.
im 100% with on being over all the grimdark nonsense. for various games and shows, the most prominent example i see is discussions about how "oh, well the best and most interesting thing they can do is kill this character" or "who do you think is going to die?" like it's completely going over their heads that the very fact that they're having those conversations and treating such a "twist" as a given means it's now empty and meaningless as a plot device. they also now conflate character deaths with "this story meant something" and it's so fucking exhausting to try to explain complex emotional journeys and how sometimes a character actually CHEAPENS a story
The original writer hasn’t been used as a source for this game at all.
A lot of Witcherfans will be skipping this one..
Why?
Geralt is retired, so Ciri takes over that's why you don't see him. But her being a Witcher has a lot of lore problems. He should also be in the game but not as main character. Also, this game will come out maybe in 2026, 2027 or later.
BS... thers more than enough lore that makes the choice believable
@@Johnspartan296 Its not a change its interpretation. Its left open because Ciri said they are alive, but its 99% cope. Games went with that 1% You can't interpret any other way what I wrote above.
Who care about your book
Well ... you're asking about it... soooooo
youre not an author, your takes dont represent you as creative at all
And yet you still took the time to comment. Thank you! 🙏🏼
I.. I feel like you should reconsider if you know what the word author means? Just, going forward in life, it's a good word, a handy word.
I don't like the trailer, it's very lore breaking. She's got Witcher abilities when she shouldn't. Giving her Witcher powers is a huge down grade.
me when I don't know the Witcher lore
Ale Ty jesteś piękna ❤
Ha,ha! Sorry , but this face and reaction from you is gold! : " Gerald would come and save her" 😝 then its Ciri and how she looks now.. you..🥶🥶
