This video was wildly edited down and changed due to a lot of errors behind the scenes, so you'll see Wheatley in full form next time. This continues to be the most complex thing I've ever designed, but despite constant challenges, I'm determined to make it real. While I am sharing the files, I don't recommend printing anything right away The design is still in flux and the cost is high (at least $600 USD). Cost wont't really go down for this version, but I'm designing a mini version (same scale as my Wheatley Crab build) that will cost less than $60USD and will be "easy" to build. Mk II currently has over 150 3D printed and CNC machined parts, which doesn't include screws, bearings, gears, etc.

This video was rushed, so Wheatley is far from "done," but is mechanically testable! Most of the sluggishness in movement is a result of me moving cautiously and because my poorly implemented wireless control scheme between the Waldo and Wheatley (which I didn't cover in the video, since it's being replaced). Wheatley still needs an audio playback system and a lot of weathering. What other features do you want to see incorporated?

wow, can't believe I caught this upload so early! Between this and the recent Aperture Desk Job, I've really been thinking with Portals recently. When "actual tutorial soon" came on screen, as a college student with no free time, experience, or access to parts, I was like "yea I should definitely add 'build a personality core' to my list, yea!" Great stuff.

@Joe. I recently played Portal: reloaded, which is basically fan made portal 3 with time travel. You should play it!
Next step, get Wheatley’s voice actor to submit his voice to an ai voice trainer thing, and make your own ai system for him to operate with

@@ItsMeLarky Yep, I looked and was reminded it does have him.
All words are made up of about 28 different noises. Vary the pitch and speed of these and compound them together and you can make any word, this is how voice emulators work. There really isn't a need for any fancy AI, just something simple and functional.
@@Nanamowa AI is still better in this case though because it automates the process, and it's specifically calibrated to mimic the voice of the character you choose.
theres another ai voice website thats NOT 15.ai, and it sounds almost PERFECT. (especially the announcer voice lol) i currently dont remember the name of the site but i found it through a video of soldier from tf2 singing super idol :|

Ever since I first played portal in 2014 I’ve been thinking about just how amazing it would be to have a real life Wheatley, watching your progress in making my 13 year old self’s dream come true has been amazing dude. Have you considered live-streaming yourself working on it? I’d love to watch along while you do your troubleshooting and work on it and other projects. Just something to consider, I know I’d definitely support you

I'm waiting for the genius who can rig the controls to something like what vtubers use and installs a camera so this can be used "naturally"
maybe some of the folks that do portal animations like harry101uk, would be able to make some motions for it that look natural, but a camera software for it would be really something amazing to behold!.
Watching this series as you release it feels like being a part of history.
It freaks me out (in only a good way) how smooth the outer shell is and how 1:1 game accurate he looks. The thumbnail looks like it belongs to a Harry101UK video, game models with hyper realistic rendering. This is really, really incredible work you've done here! * o *
The way how Wheatley eye was half way close as he moved around make it feels like a real AI that is just waking up and is carious about the world
This is incredible. It's like you plucked him straight from the game. If Mark II was this good, I can't wait to see what Mark III can do.
I am always amazed at what an active community Portal 2 has for being 11 years old now.
Once this man learns how to code an ai, he'll make an actual aperture science company.
If you ever make the portal gun a reality and can't find a way to make it actually shoot portals, just make it a paintball gun with blue and orange paint lol
What an INCREDIBLE build, I love seeing portal stuff on my UA-cam recommended, would love to see Wheatley with some sort of AI, even if it isn't perfect haha. Awesome video!!

This is looking very believable! It would be really cool to write a script that can convert the original animation files from the game into servo commands so he can speak and act out memorable in-game lines/scenes.
Hopefully I can find someone to help out with that. It would take a lot of animation/code to get there.

It's so cool how expressive the personality cores character design is. The second you lift that top eyelid and keep the bottom one closed to give him that cheaky expression he just becomes Wheatley. Awesome work!! I think I would love to build one of these as well.
