    I was going to put the hot rodded set in my XV500, but the more I hear demo's of this set, this is clearly the sound I want.

      Yeah, you can get a lot out of the '59. You might also check out the Custom for a similar eq but more mids and output--especially if you want to go into really heavy terrain.

      I have recently gone through about 15 different bridge pickups. From DiMarzio's Fortitude, Suhr Thornbucker, and various Duncan's from Custom Customs, Custom 5', JB and a few others in my various guitars. I keep going back to the 59's. Very versatile pickups. Sounds great in every guitar I have thrown them in. And they take on a different taste of course but the tone is always there.

    Have you checked out the Duncan '59/Custom Hybrid?
    I'm thinking about putting it in the bridge of my Flying V. I'm still a bit hesitant to do so though. I've had the '59 set in it since 2002. I'm afraid that I'll miss it or that the '59/Custom Hybrid won't live up to my expectations. Any thoughts on this? 🤔

      I don't have any real experience with the Hybrid. However, I would suggest trying the Hybrid IF you can say yes to the following points: 1. You want a more aggressive mid-range tone, and want to play heavier music. 2. You have, or are going to have, a second guitar that you can put the extra pickup in. 3. If you answered no to #2 and end up staying with the '59: Are ok with reselling the pickup far below what you paid for it. If you could sell a new hybrid for $35-40, that would mean the experiment cost about $40-50. Is that worth it? 3. Are you ok with have an extra pick up laying around for future experiments. I made a switch from a 59 to a Custom. As much as I love the 59, the Custom works much better with more distortion: great bite on the top end and really tight on the low end. What that means for the Hybrid I am not sure, but I think if you are going for more aggressive tones, moving in that direction away from the 59 might work well for you. Hope that helps you make up your mind. Let me know how it all works out for you. Randy

      @@larksong9 Thank you for a nicely detailed response.
      I'm going to pull the trigger and order the sh-16 59/custom hybrid. No one seems to have it in stock. I'll be ordering straight from Seymour Duncan. Thank you again for your help. 👍
      I have three Gibson Flying V's now. One with burstbuckers 2 and 3 (for more vintage tones), one with the Seymour Duncan screamin' demon and jazz (amazing combo!), and now I want to outfit my third Flying V for a heavier Rock tones and metal.

      @@wayne2150 Experimenting with pickups is one of the great things about playing electric guitar. And it's always great to have ones laying around. I just replaced the Custom with a Pegasus I had laying around. So much fun.

      Thanks, James! I still have my '59, but I have switched to the Duncan Custom as my main pickup. The Duncan Custom is sort of a "59 on steroids," and I wanted higher output. The '59, as well as the Custom, has a strong high end. I like the prominent high end. It is clear, and lets you "dig in" to the note. It also gives the '59 a unique midrange. And it is, like you say, great for classic and hard rock.

    great plyay and tone, congratulations.. i have jb on bridge and 59 neck but i need a change in more vintage teritory on bridge .. what's the diference with the jb in bridge? whts your opinion?

    • @larksong9
      @larksong9  2 роки тому +1

      The 59 will take you into vintage territory. With lower output and a scooped eq, it works with your gain in a different way. Cleans up great and leaves you with excellent dynamics. The 59 is a classic go-to for vintage styles.

    Nice! from 00:00 to 00:40 it reminds me of James Hetfield's bridge pickup sound, would you agree?

    hi again.. do you have experience with sound diferences between 59' covered and uncovered?

    • @larksong9
      @larksong9  Рік тому

      Yes. A cover will shave off a bit of very high end. Not enough to change any of the character of the pickup. You can only detect it with a strict A-B comparison. So, in effect, it doesn't matter.

    Good amp gain, playing, but the eq sounds sucked mids, no mids. VH has lots mids. The 59 has low mids makes tone sound small or thin.

    Brother me sirve tu vídeo,
    Siento que con el set 59 es suficiente y me basta, tal vez no me hace falta
    Una JB o distorsión.

    • @larksong9
      @larksong9  2 роки тому +1

      Es posible que las frecuencias superiores del 59 no vayan bien con una ganancia súper alta. Si te gusta eso, es posible que desees optar por JB o Distortion. Pero para el hard rock e incluso para algunos metales clásicos, el 59 hace un gran trabajo.
