    Both sound really good, the DiMarzio sounds a little thin but that's a good thing sometimes. I use the JBjr bridge in my Warmoth strat, when I want a thinner sound I switch it to parallel wiring, makes a Tele kind of bridge tone. I use the Duckbucker in the middle and a Vintage Rails on the neck, very versatile combo of sounds with a super switch and series/Parrallel options.

    I'm 4 years late but I got to say, excellent playing and a great song! As you presented them I thought the JB was a better sound. It had a mid punch that cut through the mix with a little more character. Really good video!

    Very nice demo!!! I had a Pro Track installed in my Classic 60s Strat, I changed it for a JbJr and I switched back to Pro Track! I gave a lot of chances to the JbJr (I had it installed for a year or so) but I thought I was trying hard to squeeze more tone out of it, like it was partially muting my strings and making them sound smoother. Finally, I went back to Pro Track and found the presence and bass I wanted and if I want a smooth tone I roll back the tone knob a bit (I have wired the middle tone to the bridge). Also, the Pro Track plays well with the stock 57/62 Fender pickups with quack in the combined b+m position while I had a hard time with the JbJr and the stock pickups. The Pro Track has 50% more output although it has half the DC resistance of the JbJr (a myth busted!).

    for high gain, Dimarzio seem to have more tightness and output

    • @angusorvid8840
      @angusorvid8840 3 роки тому

      I find this is generally the case with DiMarzios as opposed to Duncans. I've owned plenty of both, but for every pickup Duncan makes like the Full Shred, Custom, or Screamin' Demon with a tight low end, they make too many pickups like the JB, Custom Custom, Custom 5, and Pearly Gates that have a very flubby kind of low end. DiMarzio pioneered the high output humbucker more than any other company.

    The JB Jr has more mids, which I think work well on the full size hb version. Not sure how well that really works with ceramic on lower gain sounds. The Pro Track has a more open sound with a brighter high end (though that guitar also has maple fretboard which always makes a difference to my ears). Personally I'd prefer the Pro Track for various styles as a good all-rounder, But would go for the JB Jr if I was only gonna play high gain rock and metal and wanted solos to cut through with the mids.

    This video does not settle the question for me. I think the veriables are so many that we end up adapting our style and technique to the pickups,guitars and amps we play to get the most from them but they end up shaping our approach. I am ordering a Dimarzio DP 218 super distortion to put in the bridge of a Hiway 1 installed on a MIM standard with a maple back and top, I will have to wait and see where this leads but it will probably change the way I play or maybe the search will end here but I doubt it.

    Hey! What value volume and tone pots are in those guitars? 250 or 500?

  • @somedaysometime
    @somedaysometime 25 днів тому

    i literally cannot decide. the fact that these are 250k pots too are amazing. i love the higher end coming from the dimarzios so much, in the cleans AND lead/rhythm, the JB jr is a little muddier and darker to me, but i don't necessarily dislike it, i'm just so unsure of it against the dimarzio. EDIT, i put on airpods again and the JB jr wins, the laptop speakers lost a lot of definition, as to be expected lol EDIT 2: after more listening, i like the cleans on the jb jr more but the distortion on the protrack more, so i'm once again at odds

    Open 2 windows, put 1 guitar in each, then play in 5 second clips. You will see the JB is the clear winner.
    While I did prefer the clean tones of the DiMarzio when the distortion kicks in the JB has a much more aggressive and clearer sound. When the fast playing starts you can actually hear the all the individual notes being played on the JB whereas the fast stuff gets blurred and muddy on the DiMarzio.

    Thats a hard pick!! jb seems more dirty sounding and the pt seems more that 70's sound more clean. kind of funny, i run DiMarzio in my strats and SD in my LP's. call me crazy but i like them both..

    DiMarzio excelled better at clean, but then surprised how vocal it was for the solos vs the JB jr. DiMarzio wins for me!!

    I prefer the JB's clean sound but the Pro Tracks Overdrive.
