In this video I am comparing two really great pickups.
Which one do you prefer?
In the end of the video you will hear just guitar without anything else.
4.23 DiMarzio Protrack
8.14 Just the guitars
Signal chain:
Guitar - Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp - Two Notes Torpedo Live - Focusrite Clarett 2 Pre - Logic Pro X
There are no post processing on the guitar tracks.
but on the solo there are a tiny bit of compression (Waves H-Comp).
Hope you like the video!
You can always hit that subscribe button if you like to.
Take care my friends!
/Christian :-)
Both sound phenomenal. Can't lose with either one.
Brilliant mate 1st class demo thanks for putting this up both sound bloody great
Thanks! Have a great day! /Christian :-)
THE BEST DEMO ever, truly. Consistent, great, playing from version to version, yet with enough texture to find what I wanted to hear, especially as I have the JB Junior and could relate its tone. Thank you!
Came for comparison ended up enjoying watch you play. Great video.
My guess 250 since it's stacked hb but I could be wrong. Couldn't go wrong either way but I think 250 would be smoother with more articulate single notes.
Great video. Finally someone who known how to make a proper demo video..Excellent sir!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the video! Best regards from a cold Sweden :-)
With playing that good, they both sound awesome.
Loved your guitar Playing..Its DiMarzio for me
I love the sound of both but the JB is the sound I'm looking for in my Strat. I just got one in the mail and I can't wait to install it!
How'd the JB Jr go in the strat?
@@motothumper5598 Sounds great!!!
Great tone, i really enjoy your Music, thank you !
Thanks a lot my friend! :-) /Christian
Great playing! Great video for comparison. Both do sound great.
Both sound really good, the DiMarzio sounds a little thin but that's a good thing sometimes. I use the JBjr bridge in my Warmoth strat, when I want a thinner sound I switch it to parallel wiring, makes a Tele kind of bridge tone. I use the Duckbucker in the middle and a Vintage Rails on the neck, very versatile combo of sounds with a super switch and series/Parrallel options.
I love the Protrack in the bridge. I have one in a Mustang. Very underrated pickup.
Very nice demo!!! I had a Pro Track installed in my Classic 60s Strat, I changed it for a JbJr and I switched back to Pro Track! I gave a lot of chances to the JbJr (I had it installed for a year or so) but I thought I was trying hard to squeeze more tone out of it, like it was partially muting my strings and making them sound smoother. Finally, I went back to Pro Track and found the presence and bass I wanted and if I want a smooth tone I roll back the tone knob a bit (I have wired the middle tone to the bridge). Also, the Pro Track plays well with the stock 57/62 Fender pickups with quack in the combined b+m position while I had a hard time with the JbJr and the stock pickups. The Pro Track has 50% more output although it has half the DC resistance of the JbJr (a myth busted!).
Thank you!! Take care!
Good Review but bottom line which do you prefer? I thought the pro track had more clarity am I wrong?
Great layering mate, well done
Great demo and AWESOME tune man!!
Thank you!! I'm glad that you liked the video and the music. Best wishes from Sweden! /Christian
I'm 4 years late but I got to say, excellent playing and a great song! As you presented them I thought the JB was a better sound. It had a mid punch that cut through the mix with a little more character. Really good video!
Yea the lead single notes cut through better on the JB Jr but the Dimarzio does sound good on chords, ive
used both on my two strats,
I have both, and the JB is much more articulate, and well rounded. But both pickups are very nice.
Great video. This is what I need before where I go for. Thanks.
Thanks a lot! I´m glad you liked the video and made you´re decision i little bit easier. Have a great 2018! :-) /Christian
Very Great video,.... I like The kind oF style you play.....!! 🎸 THANKYOU
Thank you my friend!!
DiMarzio sounds more aggressive to my ears. It has more lows and highs. Duncan with more high mids.
yes the DiMarzio it's clearly more hard rock / metal.. I love it..
Pro trick : you can watch movies at Flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Gregory Arlo yea, have been using flixzone} for months myself :)
i like jb in this video..it has that little 'springy' sound when you pick the string..
Great pickup demo...are you using 0.022uf or 0.047uf capacitor for Dimarzio Pro Track?
JB Jnr sounds great in your demo. I used the Protrack and I found the tone is very smooth and slightly boring. Dimarzio Chopper is the one I like with 250k controls, but I don't know how it compares the JB Jnr.
That DiMarzio sounds so beefy and crunchy......love it!
Excellent playing and pup comparison 10/10
Thanks for the video. Really good comparsion. I prefer SD pickup, more transparent and more interestng sound on both clean and dist. Nice tune too
Thanks! I´m glad you liked the video! /Christian
I admire your way of present the two pickups on the guitar with a variety of styles to play. That’s how it should be done , if you’re shopping for a guitar pickup that’s how you can make a decision what you want to sound like…….!! I love the sound of the pro track on the neck position on my Kramer it sound so bluesy, can beat that……
Hey! What value volume and tone pots are in those guitars? 250 or 500?
The Jrs have a great lead vintage sound (a personal preference since solo tone sounded close to In Flames's 'December Flower' solo tone) but Di Marzios do have a great modern buttery rhythm tone.
Great jam!
Geez please release this music !
Thank you so much!! That would be cool to release some music but I think nobody would listen to music by a crazy swede! 😁😜
@@goodenoughguitar8824 hello again ! I sent this music/riff to some friends and they all answered o-m-g
It's a badass riff
@@turtle733 Thanks! You have some great friends! 😁
great video n love ur demo. i like duncan jb jr
Thank you!! Have a great day my friend. /Christian
If you want a touch more brightness and attack, try the DiM Fast Track 1.
I've got the fastrak T in a telecaster. Sounds great with 500k pots. Pair with cruser!
You have a great sound in your hands. Like!
DIMARZIOOOO ALL DAY
I prefer the Jeff Beck Jnr (red guitar). I have one in my US Strat and it's awesome! I also have a DiMarzio tone zone full humbucker in an Ibanez I own and that's pretty biting, ballsey, and not at all fizzy when distorted.
Thank you for making this video. Truthfully its hard for me to decided on which is better. Ive been thinking about the JB Jr. So im leaning in that direction, plus my guitar is red, so im gonna say the red guitar sounds better. Ive been going back and forth on UA-cam about the Jr. Vs. Hot rails vs. Little 59 vs. Screaming demon. I still prefer the Jr. sound. Again, thank you for making the video and good playing.
Thank you! I´m glad you liked the video! Best wishes from Sweden :-)
forget the pickups, nice guitar lesson!
Thanks man! :-)
Rockn rolly, Christian cederberg!👍
Thank you!! /Christian 😀🤟
Great playing and sound! I really enjoyed both but the DiMarzio sounds much warmer.
Hi Christian. Thanks a´lot!! Merry Christmas! /Christian :-)
I like the Pro Track in the bridge of my strat as well.
Damn fine playing! I had the jb jr in my old srat, I think I'll try the dimarzio in my next one
Thank you!! Try it and see what you think. Best regards from Sweden!
I am officially sub 339. I expect there to be many more. Great video. Playing is awesome. Great range of tones and styles for demo of these pickups. I couldn't tell a huge difference between the two on You Tube. How did they sound to you in the room?
Hi Toney! Thank you for subscribing to my channel and thanks for the kind words!! Both pickups are great! The Dimarzio has a tiny bit more scooped sound than the SD in my ears. Best wishes from Sweden! /Christian :-)
Great Comparison but Greater Playing awesome job!!
Nice video. Are you using 250k or 500k with the JB Jr? Thanks.
Hi Bruce! Thanks! I am using the original 250k pot. /Christian
Sounds so similar to Opeth - My time of need. Thanks for the comparison. They both sound so good. Jb's have more crunchy mid-range. D'marzios have a crunchier low-mid with a more compressed sound. Jb's seen to ring more. D'ms seem to have a flatter response.
Both sound great. But I prefer the JB Junior.
I just ordered a G&L USA Legacy from Chicago Music Exchange. It has Bare Knuckle Apache's in neck and middle position. I had them install a SD JB Jr in Bridge. Should sound killer and should be arriving in couple days. Be playing it through my '78 Marshall JMP. It's gonna be rockin'.
Hi there, I see that you installed bare knuckle apache’s in the neck and middle and a SD in jr in the bridge of one of your guitars. How did the Apache’s work? How about the jb jr? Did they work well together? Thanks!
Very cool comparison I like the JB JR a lot that little bastard sounds good
hi.. which one will you more prefer? And which one has more high output pickup?
Seymour. Warmer n Vintage = Classic.
Great tone
This video does not settle the question for me. I think the veriables are so many that we end up adapting our style and technique to the pickups, guitars and amps we play to get the most from them but they end up shaping our approach. I am ordering a Dimarzio DP 218 super distortion to put in the bridge of a Hiway 1 installed on a MIM standard with a maple back and top, I will have to wait and see where this leads but it will probably change the way I play or maybe the search will end here but I doubt it.
\\
I have a Seymour Duncan JB jr strat-sized humbucker on order.
You will not be disappointed! That is a great pickup!
Great demo and playing. I've owned both pickups and although you can't tell from this video, the DiMarzio has a lot more sustain than the Jb Jnr which is why i still have the Pro Track and not the Seymour Duncan.
Thanks! /Christian
Hi! Thanks! Take care! /Christian
Dude... nice touch!
Thanks!!
Both sound great but going with JB Jr since that's what Dave Murray uses on the middle position
Janick Gers use jb jr in bridge and neck position 🤘
@@Berkovicz Yeah, but my favorite Maiden tone is Dave's, that's why I put Hotrails in the neck and bridge positions and a JB jr in the middle position
Close but i went with the Pro Track
Probably the best pu test I ever seen.
You are too kind. I am just a simple guitarplayer...
Wish I could get a pickup thats a cross between the two
Nice playing and both sounds good, maybe SD is more transparent, DMZ more warmer...but they both sound good enough for bridge position in strat...i own Pro Truck...it is better in B position then i N
Thank you!!
Epic Track excellent
Thanks a´lot!! Cheers from Sweden! 👍🏼
Jb cuts better but has a flubby bass and almost sounds like ghost notes on leads, Pro track tighter fundamentals low and high but gets lost in the mix. Is there a 3rd option?
Hey Christian. What pot value are you using for the volume with the Pro-track? 250k? Thanks
Hello there! Thanks for watching my video! Yes, I'm using a 250k pot! Best wishes from the woods in Sweden! 😀
@@goodenoughguitar8824 Thanks from Canada 😀
@@goodenoughguitar8824 thank you! Got the answer I needed
Would love to hear this song with vocals. Great tune. As for the pickups, I'm on the fence. I mean I like both SD and DiMarzio pickups but I'm undecided
Thanks!! It would be really cool to put some vocals on this one. Do you know someone?? Maybe you have a strong voice?? ;-) Cheers from Sweden!
@@goodenoughguitar8824 I don't consider myself to have a voice fit for lead vox LOL. Nor unfortunately do I know anyone who does.
Very late to this, but this comparison shows that the pickups don't matter that much, as long as a player knows what to do and how to play. Both a very, very nice tracks, hats off 😊 In the end I'd prefer the DiMarzio for being a bit softer in the midrange - but that's a matter of taste, I think 😁
such a stupid comment
Então se tem preferência é pq o captador importa
Like both. Slight edge to pro track clean and slight edge to JB distorted
Exactly what I said!!
Chili SheepDog I agree
I think they both sound good, but the Protrack sounds brighter and the SD more bassy .....Not sure if it's the pups or the different tone woods (fret boards).....I know maple boards tend to be brighter and more trebly. I have 4 guitars with maple boards and they are definitely brighter sounding then my rosewoods.
I have a Protrack but it's in the neck position. I was trying to set my Strat up for Satch tones. Would like to hear it in the bridge position ......
Love your progression....Great tune....😎🎸🎶👍
I like the SD cleans better and love the Dimarzio distortion tone better(ballsy and warm)
Both great pickups but what I find with most pickups is that they excel in one thing. If its great clean it won't nail distortion as well.
Great video 👍 Dimarzio all the way for me
Thank you so much!! Best wishes from The North 😁
Jb looks better! Both sound good nice playing. DiM for your style, but I'll take the jb
Seymour more vintage sound ,Dimarzio more modern sound ,more mass and high and low ,seymour more sweet highs and tight lows.Great pickups, very cool
do you all 250k pots, or a mix of 250 and 500?
Jb for melodic hardrock ..Pro track for metall..
Remind me of Brian Maillard...good stuff bro
Thanks!!
awesome demo and playing....which did you like Christian??? thanks Mont
Thank you and I'm glad you like the video. I can't say that one is better than the other.
They just sound different! Take care! /Christian
Id say the Dimarzio makes better tone, cleaner and brighter.
I've get that in the neck position of a tele. The treble side is nice but the bass strings are muddy.
@@rsaathoff then lower the bass side of the pickup..
Have you tried SD little 59, its my favourite out of single sized humbuckers
I´m glad you like the track! Yes, I have tried the little 59 and that is also a great pickup!
Lord help! They're both *great* pickups. JB is warmer, maybe. Seems DM's have a slightly bit more of treble. Would only make a difference depending who is playing it. Both sound pretty amazing.
I have an SSS musicman silhouette special, and I really want to pop the pro track in there. this video convinced mew to buy one, cheers dude
Its great that my video helped you to decide what pickup to choose! Cheers dude!
I have a jb it in the bridge position in my strat and it's awesome but I gotta say in this demo the DiMarzio sounds better to my ears
I prefer the JBJr. It has a bit more snarl to the mids that'd be more suitable for my style of playing. However the the PT does sound good for fast solos and clean passages.
Seymour duncan + rosewood = rawwk!
for high gain, Dimarzio seem to have more tightness and output
I find this is generally the case with DiMarzios as opposed to Duncans. I've owned plenty of both, but for every pickup Duncan makes like the Full Shred, Custom, or Screamin' Demon with a tight low end, they make too many pickups like the JB, Custom Custom, Custom 5, and Pearly Gates that have a very flubby kind of low end. DiMarzio pioneered the high output humbucker more than any other company.
Hi, 250k or 500k volume pot?
What a great video my friend !.......is it me or the Dimarzio has more balls ?
Thank you!!
I prefer the JB's clean sound but the Pro Tracks Overdrive.
what pedal are you using?
Killer video what's your tuning
Hi there! Thanks! The guitar i tuned in E standard. Cheers from Sweden!
Sounds great! Reminds me of King’s X. Both pickups sound good but the JB is tight and fat
Dimarzio is killer Pickups!!! The Best sound 🎯👉🎸🚀🚀🇧🇷
Nice track btw
Thanks!!
Jb Jr or Texas Special???
Seymour mas brillante y clasico. Dimarzio no tan brillante pero cremoso especial para riff en de lo 90..
What tuning are you in D?
Basically, the DiMarzio is warmer, more muscle, the Duncan has more "spoink" and edge, let's your picking come through. I'm currently using the Custom Shop "Little Pearly Gates".
How about clean with no effects?
did you write this? --- its pretty cool
Ritchie Blackmore in your playing .... Nice .....
