I can appreciate the flashy technical skills of all the famous shredders in the modern era, but I have to say that I absolutely adore Michael Schenker's passion, creativity, and inventiveness. The takeaway from a video document like this is how much he loves to play the guitar. He's not trying to impress anybody; he is simply doing his best. He is sharing his love of music with his audience. It is very genuine. It is evident that the band is feeding off his energy as well.
It's like he came back from the dead, and he's playing like a boss again. The mad axeman lives!
Well My Friend, you have captured the single best, most beautiful, melodic, face ripping, soul crunching, GREATEST EVER SOLO EVER RECORDED! I have been fortunate enough to have seen Michael play this song over 80 times, going back to Chicago, in 1975. I have never, Never Ever, seen, or heard it played more PERFECTLY THAN THIS! It is like you just discovered the single greatest gift to the world by anyone, anywhere, anytime. I had tears of Pure, Blissful Joy by the time Michael was playing the triplets at the 5:00 minute mark, and I can listen to this 1,000 times and it will never be less than PERFECTION. You have my undying Thanks and Gratitude for capturing this monumental piece of Art. Blessings to you forever and until the end of time.
Michael Schenker, Rock Bottom. Absolute PERFECTION! Peace.

Melodic sense of Michael Schenker is off the charts.
GENIUS.
This was one of the best rock bottom performances by Michael I’ve seen. Top form.
Rock Bottom is one of the best rock songs ever written.
I think Michael on top of that song it never gets old ,I listen to it since I first heard it ,my first 8 track tape was force it and I still love M.S.
And one of the best ever played. Schenker is a fucking guitar god!
Agree that bro 😅
Many guitarist can play fast or even more technical, but not as tasty en bluesy as Michael
I agree, it's not about the speed, it's about the feeling of the notes and delivery.
It's all about what you can bring into music, Speed is that we all have.
+sausagefinger12 I agree
Agree! He's the total package!
Ritchie Blackmore?
At 56 Ive been to a whole lot of concerts. Many of which I can't remember as I was so f-cked up. But every concert with Schenker in it (including UFO in 1977 in SF) I can remember clearly as Schenker is unforgettable and perhaps the best hard rock guitarist who has ever lived.
Absof*ckinlutely!
I'm right there with you.
pr mofo 100% agree.
the UFO show that hooked me.. Michael melted my 17 year old face and changed the way I would play forever.
My first concert ever was UFO and Blue Oyster Cult, in 1978. That was definitely one for the ages!
This what an old rock guy should look like and play like. Lean and mean, still playing like he means it.
Agreed
The original shredder...I've often wondered why Uli or Yngwie never gave him credit due....
@@markgoyette6827 Ego.
It's good to see Herman and Francis again. They are still "real" Scorpions to me.
Best live rendition of rock bottom for thr past 30 yrs
I have seen hundreds of Schenker videos and this one is my favorite. It captures the essence of the greatest metal guitarist ever. Thanks for posting this masterpiece!
100% … was thinking, just the same
Schenker playing at his best, My Jaw is still droped
Oh my God; he hasn't lost a lick - what a great performance!
All Hail the Blonde Bomber from Germany!
After all these years - STILL one of the most fiery lead guitarists on the planet!
God bless you and the kids Michael.
One of my favourite guitarists. Excellent video. Love the black & white footage ... very effective and dramatic.
That lead break.....that's the top of the mountain for any MS fan....those runs, that tone, he's one of a kind.
My Hero and the only reason i ever started playing guitar, started with
Scorpions, UFO and then his own project The Michael Schenker Band.
Playing an old UFO song, meanest lead, melodic as hell!!
you and me both brother. Discovered him first in 1981 with MSG 1 and then was hooked on everything he did all the way back to earliest days...he was and still is my biggest influence!
yup, Schenker, Moore, Van Halen and prob Dire Straits got me going when I was young and gat addicted
Ah that old familiar slightly bent-over constipated Michael Schenker posture. Look at any video from his career and he's always stood like that, even the early UFO days. He tucks the bottom of the Vee into his crotch. Hey, it clearly works, so good on him. Also love the way he always chucks out a completely new solo every time he does this song live, just made up on the spot. That's the sign of a true guitar genius.
He even takes a selfie during the solo at 10:46. \m/
My favorite UFO guitar song! Michael Schenker's a bad ass on the fretboard 🎶
When Michael uses also his pinky you know it's really gonna be a hell of a solo... Majestic Schenker's performance!
Michael is a very underrated guitar player. I always love his style of blues rock.
Underrated by whom? The mass?! The "Rolling Stone" reporters?! The late Mtv crap? Every single rock and guitar lover who knows his onions considers Schenker nothing less than a guitar God. He has consciously chosen since the early 80s not to be a labels product but just a true artist. Thanks God he stayed true to himself, we had dozens of boring and inconsistent copycat guitarists!
@@lifeisnice23 leave him be. He doesn't know.
I dont agree .. anyone who knows guitar knows how good he is.. know guitar man now!! Can hold a match to this guy. That includes,, yngwie.
Guitar players,,, guitar player.. show me someone better thats still active today?? Yess,, look long & Hard.🤔🤔
And dashes of neoclassical shred unmatched...
Wow!! His tone/style haven't changed for all these years... and he's playing better than ever. Excellent band, guys.
My favorite rock guitarist of all time!
I hear you. Times 1,000! Insanely Perfect, or Perfectly Insane. That's the BEST Rock Bottom ever seen, ever played. PERIOD.
@cogitoergo You care.
Incredible guitarist.
I had no idea this footage existed. Thank you so very much for sharing this masterpiece. Be well, friend.
May your ears stay tristy my friend
The second time I've watched this. Gott-dayum! And the guitar solo of year goes toooo....
I just watched a UFO version of Rock Bottom with Vinnie playing... it sounded good, but, compared to Schenker doing his thing... not even close. Thank you for continuing to inspire Mr. Schenker!
Forget Slash having the best all time riff. This beats anything ever done. Schenker is the man!
Slash can kiss MS's Vee!
Damn right! He copped alot of MS style and sound. We know who the master is and he's here to let you know he hasn't lost a step as others have. I can't listen to EVH Slash and YW nowadays. Michael has always stayed true to his style and sound. It's perfect.
I was reading an interview with Slash in a UK guitar magazine. He said he loved Schenker and if you could master the lead run in Mother Mary, you could play anything. I really like Slash - but Schenker will always be king to me!
theres a video here somewhere...schenker and slash on the same stage....slash ends up with his hair tangled in his guitar tuners, and then he falls down. that says all you need to know about any comparison between schenker / slash.
Slash is a rank amateur compared to Schenker
you sometimes forget just how good this man is ;until you watch him then its like yeah now i remember.......in my top 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Les Wadley ..... and his Brother ........ Scorpions.
This was a joke------------
He destroys his guitar with his power and passion! He is the best rock guitarist of them all :D
Mein Held. Der Beste von allen. Eine lebende Legende.
still the best guitarist around!!!!!
WOW! WOnderful! I cant give this enough thumbs up! WONDERFUL camera work! Caught Michael at his soul.... THANKS for sharing!!!!!
just realized, half of why , i love this is the Black and WHITE!!!!!
OMG! Saw Michael in 77 with UFO, and honestly THIS WAS BETTER! Wow to have gotten better with age with rifs like that is NOT USUAL!!
NOTHING BUT KUDOS! Michael If you ever come to Rochester NY again I would forever be in your debt to just shake your hand, you sir are a magician!
if I could only be a millionth of the guitar player m.s is,I’d die a happy bunny.why is he so underrated, my god
Here it is 2021 and he’s still wearing that hat. Is it because he’s rockin the “Ben Franklin “ under it?
You can't be called great until you stand the test of time like this guy has.
Schenker is one of the greatest ever. Period!
So good to see the ''Schenkmeister'' beeing in great shape and rocking the Flying V like a boss. \m/ Great quality in this video, thanks for sharing. :-)
THANK GOD a video showing just Schenker instead of going all over the place.
Greatest rock guitarist ever!!!
+runrunrun6777 I second that statement I saw him live with UFO then the first MSG album tour and many times since. He is the Man. I have him on the first Scorpions album German print Bought it in the 70's
Dang!!!!! As we all have watched countless live performances of "Rock Bottom", I think most of us would agree that this is 1st or second best performance!
Im a Mesa Boogie (MK2c) guitarist but Michael uses Marshall that no one else.... Hes the main man...
Awesome! He still has it. Great feeling, vibrato and tasty licks. He makes his guitar sing!
5:45
Rare pinkie finger sighting!
Wow Michael looks 20 years younger than 2 years ago!!!1 Go Michael!
damn ...this is a great video ive seen michael three or four times, ive also seen uli jon roth,he is also amazing
I'm the same age as Schenker, started as a rockgitarist and I'm more into jazzy kind of things now. I hardly listen to rock nowadays but for Schenker is always room. I love that man to bits. What a pleasure to see and hear him play.
This is called "a classic hard rock solo."
what a guitar player.hes got it
A true survivor.
I don't know if I would call him a survivor...well maybe but there are still way to many people that aren't aware of him I think. Damn..this singer just rubs me the wrong way! Sorry,I was watching the video when I was typing.
I never get tired of these riff's from UFO and Michael Schenker
this how i study i watch and watch i burn it in my brain i become.
Not going to lie.. I have stolen all my licks from Schenker.. All of them..
Don't worry man, you're not the only one, since the late 70s an entire generation of famous axes did it with no shame at all! 😂🤘🤘
54 unlikes?.....must be 54 jealous guitar players
Damn..his definition, phrasing, tone are simply impeccable... even at this age..I have so much respect for this guy..the guitar is simply his bitch
passed on a new band called Van Halen twice to see UFO .... classic!
I'm glad see him again. i'm 48 now and I heard his guither very first time at 16.
But he is still best, WOW NICE !
This is great! Big Micheal Schenker fan here, and I'm glad to see him still KILLIN it! Looks like he's lost some weight since I saw him in the '80s, but he can still carve that Flying V in half, even with only his left hand! Very underrated guitarist (and songwriter). Thanks so much for this post!
Thanks feeelis for this,my favorite
schenker song. He sounds better
than ever.
Supreme and sublime. Michael Schenker's sense of flowing melody is unrivalled. Many of of his trade. Ending solo's are true gem. Personally I feel the main solo in broken promises and rock you to the ground is simply guitar heaven..note after note..
Great Guitar! When Did Jack Black Join The Band On Vocals?
I really like Doogie's voice. You should listed to Yngwie Malmsteen cover of Gates of Babylon. One of the best covers I've heard. Doogie kicks ass on that.
As if any other proof were needed...Micheal Schenker ..God!
Schenker is the best fuck the rest.
Amazing!! So glad he has his shit together. Amazing guitarist.
How does Schenker retain his ability and his boyish good looks...........Has he made a demonic pact?
Holy... f@@ing... sh@t...! How many times has he played this solo and he can still rip it to pieces!
Many may claim title Guitar God...but always remember Michael is the Lord of The String...n that title n honour goes only to this most incredible man 🤘🤘
That was fucking bad ass!...
i hate those solo wankers that play at the speed of light without any melody or addition to the song. he focuses on the whole thing, his solos make sense. thats why i love slash too
Slash is just a Schenker rip-off, more mainstream, less talented.
Tone of the God's. Love this. Timeless.
Michael is the Man to which other guitarists followed for Many years.
This song would be PERFECT if Phil Mogg was up there Singing this Classic Tune with them, instead of this %#&, LOVE Michael Schenker's Guitar Playing...
MrMustard2U exactly
That is Herman Rarebell - the German - on the drums and Francis Buchholz - bass ...from the Scorpions.... I am sure Michael enjoyed this tour with them their like family to him... I am 55 yrs old and I saw Schenker with UFO 1977 once you see him you never forget he is just that good. I saw Van Halen in the same era and when he joined up with Hagar I forgot all about him..all the other lead guitar players I saw back then I have forgotten except for a small few - Angus Young, Ronnie Montrose and the legend Leslie West. But Shenker is one of the best ever!
I dit also great players like Roy Buchanan, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower , Clapton and some of one who you saw
RIP Ronnie Montrose! Saw him live during a smal festival in Dusseldorf(Germany) around 1975-76-in the Messehalle. His experiments with the Guitarsynteziser I will never forgett! Why did he this?
Never sounds like MS solos with 3 fingers! It sounds like 7!
too much eletricity, hardly couldn't sit to watch, feels like playing right now, thanks for that dose of inspiration!!!
singer of mally hatchet and baterist of the scorpions??? greatttt
Don't forget Herman the German on drum kit
I can't find a live that he plays he same solo as the studio version. Why can't he play the same thing? Is he that stoned?
Because its boring of course! If you want to hear the same thing listen to the album.Whats makes this song exciting after 40 plus years is that you never know what Schenker going to do in the solo when he takes off on his lead break journey.
dude comin from an old school filmer this was brilliant footage!!!
hell yeah! the mad axeman is back!
his tone, his phrashing and even his young looks returned! XD
that is what rock and roll is about
Best concert, I been on the same in Thessaloniki, Club 33, thak you
I watch this video way too much but there was something particularly inspired about this Schenker performance so fair play for capturing it. The tension build is epic, such a gifted player
M.Schenker on top of my list coz this old man still fucking grate perform on stage.
how old is him actually? i thing over 60..?
as i now, my b.day 1973 his already with UFO...keep rocking granddad.
Watched him play this live, and it was even better than this, will NEVER FORGET
Have to admit he is not my favourite vocalist for Michael. I always liked Graham Bonnet.
THE song I wish I could crank SUPER LOUD!!! in my car when someone is blasting their BOOM BOOM getto garbage in traffic
MS is friggin great, always has been. And this performance shows it. Thanks for posting.
There's that middle-of-the-solo section where his right hand gets that snappy choppy aggression and at the same time his left hand lays down bluegrass forms based on diads on the fretboard that distinguishes him from shredders who think too linear. He is definitely the "German Santana."
holy shit, never really listened to MSG, his guitar tone is amazing!!!
And it's not some $ 4000.00 boutique amp either.
Chris von Chamier This is the temple of rock, not MSG
Or a crazy pedal board either....
it doesn't get much better than this!
10:43 i would probably never listen to schenker ever again if I was the one who was said "not you" to
Saw them in Köln last week and Michael was on top of his game, amazing, just like in that vid!!!!
Fuckin'ell this is still one of the best riffs in the world, Schenker still kicking ass!
Fantastic video thanks for posting. Interesting to get such a close look at Micheals technique, I love the way he combines alternate picking, damping and legato to get a fluid-yet-dynamic sound. Also his wrist and hand always in exactly the same angle all the way up an down the neck, he uses his whole arm to make sure that his fingers have to do the minimum of stretching so hes always in complete control of every note. A true perfectionist and master of his craft.
