- Tales of Murderous Fatal Betrayal
News of the Times Episode 255 | 1887 & 1901
In today’s episode, we look at two cases where love takes a sinister turn into fatal betrayal.
In our first case from 1887 Preston, a young couple who have been dating several months, decide to make the bold move of giving up their domestic service jobs in England and move to America for a fresh start and a fresh life. Annie, a young girl of virtuous temperament, insists that they marry before the long boat ride there. Her partner wishes to wait for the marriage to take place upon arrival in their new country. The disagreement leads to murder.
In our second case from 1901 Eastbourne, strange shots are heard from a locked room in a boarding house. There, Alice is found slumped in a chair with a dangerous wound whilst Charly, her known beau, lies dead on the floor at her feet. But who shot whom? And why did the murder take place?
Two cases of murder and betrayal are today’s episode of Wicked Wednesdays.
Hosted by Robin Coles.

I love Wicked Wednesday!
Wicked! Thank you - very kind! 🙏
Enjoyed these interesting stories. Being in love can be dangerous. Wow!
💔 - Just in time for valentine's day!
Both of these cases were very intriguing and yet sad also. In the first case it seems as though it was definitely a disagreement about when this couple would marry before or after leaving for America. In the second case it's a question of who pulled the trigger on the gun the man or woman, the three doctors couldn't agree. I find it interesting that the woman who recovered said it wasn't a suicide pact but nothing else beyond that. Great investigation, presentation, backstories, illustrations, photos, and videos, as well. Take care 🦋
Great to hear from you! Yes, the woman in the first case - there was a real point made in the papers about her insisting that she would remain virtuous until she was married and that is a loooooong ship ride sharing a cabin! The second case - it sounds like her own father reckoned she had a pre-occupation with death. She would give no other information other than repeating that she wished she had died. Thank you, as always, for your support!🙏
ooh yes ,,Love ..then can be fickle ...hearts of a normal breaks ...stays in heart ,but we move on. Some people's mental state .Terrible.
💔💔 Broken hearts leading to RIP 🪦
This is one of the best yet. ❤❤❤
Thank you!! Really glad you enjoyed! 🙏
Entertaining & unique; but narrative is too long with the full repetition of facts
Thank you for your feedback. The stories are told through the papers and often follow the progression of crime, discovery, inquest, investigation, trial, outcome. As such, there can be some repition depndng on the story. We do not synthesise the stories - those are other channels. We appreciate that our channell is not for everyone.
