I ran into Ryan at the airport after A2 during the 2016 season. He was standing with Roger and Eldon and another guy when I stopped and stuck my hand out. Rather than having to stifle any annoyance at me for interupring, he was all class and showed genuine interest. But what made him special was his humility.. After shaking my hand and saying "thank you" to what ever compliment I made to him personnally-he immediately turned my attention and said "dont you want to say hello to the 'legend'"? So Roger and I shook hands.. In Ryan's mind Roger was the rock star. A sport could not have a better representative than Ryan Dungy.. His career as a racer speaks for itself.
Racing for Roger Decoster has to be a dream come true. I m 63 but love and raced motocross back in the day. Roger was at the top of the game and one of my racing heros. Can t imagine being on his team.
My construction forman needs to learn this. Whenever stuff goes perfectly its always "I" did this or "I" did that but when he messes things up it changes to "we" did that or "we" did this.
Never been my favourite rider just because he isn't the the most exciting to watch but you gotta respect the guy ! He's a great champion and seems a really nice guy , and he is the perfect role model for any young up and coming riders !!
Kehoe 11 I met him in 2010 his rookie year of 450s at Atlanta and he was awesome, people have bad days you know, don’t hold professionals on a a pedestal, they put on there pants one leg at a time in the morning too
I'm glad to see all these positive comments for Dungey he truly is a class act guy. Great role model. No ones perfect by any means but man did that guy walk the Borderline of perfection. Not just on the track but in everyone of his choices and how he acted on them.
This is perfect. Fox said it best. He represents the best, never give up, kind, calculating, class, just so good for the sport. I wish all sports would take a page from his lifes work. Wow, I will miss his racing along with his attitude.
Omg 😭😭😭. I love dungey so much ❤️❤️. Such a huge role model to me. Never has let me down. Wish I could be just like him. “Never give up”. He sure proved that. #always5
Dungey is a true pace racer. It is so hard to give laps like he does week in and out and never really make mistakes. The consistency in his racing is his legend. Never have I seen another rider never really have to ride outside his comfort zone because he is always looking comfortable. Just heart of a warrior and true master of the the dirt.
I'm more of a Tomac/Roczen guy, but during Vegas you just got to respect the guy especially hearing retirement rumors. One of the best racers of all time.
What a great story. Huge respect for Ryan, his family and everyone involved in his career. “Super Pumped” to see a Genuine Nice Guy reach the highest levels of AMA Motocross/ Supercross.
I always admired his professionalism. On the podium doing post race interviews. Such class. I wish more riders watched his professionalism and learned from it.
I'll always remember when my friends said Dungey will never beat Jason Lawrence. Being from NJ everyone was on Jlaw bandwagon. I am always the about the underdog. I'd watch races at friends houses and always had a smile after cause of just listening to him on Podium was a Legend in the Making.. Watching Dungey struggle with KTM first season of supercross might be greatest supercross season ever. The determination he had I wish I could find in myself witch makes it a inspiration. That's what Dungey is a INSPIRATION!!! #5 IS ALIVE Brappp
A true beacon of the sport and my son always looked up to him and even with his wins he wouldn't take any number always had a number 5 on all of his race bikes but Ryan Dungey is a real human being and Hero to many kids we raise out helmets to him # 5 will always be on our garage walls and in our hearts
I’ll never forget 2011 Southwick. Dungey displayed one of the most incredible feats of heart and grit in the history of sports. It was a truly legendary performance.
have watched moto cross my whole life and known of Dungey but after watching this my hat is off to you Ryan, you are an inspiration and a true amabasador to this sport!!! podium champ as well as the peoples champ!!!
i always looked up to Dungey.. since the first day i knew about motorcross and supercross. It’s kind of sad to hear that he is retiring but there has to be a point when someone needs to end their career, especially in motorsports. Still gonna be a Dungey fan, i can’t choose another person just because one retired. 🤙🏼
Truly sad to see him retire but I'm glad he is doing it on his own terms and happiness. You are a legend Dungey. My 3yr old son started racing last summer and I hope he sticks with it as hard as you did.
Watching this and remembering back when I rode up in Minnesota in the early 70's till the mid 80's...This is such a great sport filled with such great competitors and human beings. Ryan has been one of the best Ambassadors in the history of our sport. Hard to find this anymore in any other sport. There are more Patriots involved in Motocross than there is in the NFL and NBA combined. This is the sport of True Champions!
Very humble, respectful, never him say I. Riders like Ryan Dungey are few and far between! Nothing but respect here! Always thanking GOD for his blessings! Always my favorite rider!! Roger Decoster was just the icing on the cake, also a very humble man.
I met him at supercross in Arlington 2016... he was such a cool dude. His dad. His mom. His wife they were all sitting outside they’re rv and he went out of his way to get up and sign my brothers hat. He went inside to grab him a jersey but I guess management said he couldn’t because he came outside with it and someone came up to him and he went back inside then just ended up taking pictures. Been my idol since I seen him on tv 5 years ago.
Him, ryan villopoto, James Stewart, and Chad Reed were my #1s while growing up. I’m glad I got to witness these legends race and ride hard and watch it with my dad. He unfortunately passed away 2 years ago but I will never let the motocross legacy die out with him. I will ride my bike forever. Thank you.
The Sport was blessed by having Dungey be a part of it. Always a class act and gracious ambassador for the sport. One of the best of all time. Ryan was so, maybe lucky, blessed of whatever, to have Roger DeCoster take him under his wing. That team of Roger and Ryan just worked. You will be missed as a competitor, ambassador, champion, and person. God be with you and your family always.
Joe Booth True and well said, but on Roger De Coster, he did that with so many riders even when he was racing riders of his era in the US of A up and coming riders and established pros wanted to be him they wanted to beat the European dominance of that time, listen to Bob Hannah talk about how Roger D motivated him to be the best when he was competing against him. Then he took Donny Hansen to the double in 82, Johnny O Mara, David Bailey 3 titles in 83, Ron Lechien winner and a fail not sure what happened there, yes the drug thing but to happen on his watch still perplexes me to this day, even Rocky Johnson, Micky Dymond, Jeff Stanton, JMB, the first Frenchman, RC also, Roger D is and has been more pivotal for US MX and SX than any other rider and team manager in history and will never be repeated. What others also fail to understand re RV2 and yes he did to some degree have RDs number, but he also had an established bike, Ryan D and Roger De Coster as well as KTM USA and KTM took a new bike first linkage KTM from never winning a premier class win to championship in SX and MX on US soil, not done on a European bike since the 70s when the first coming of the European manafacturers and riders dominated motocross globally. That alone should put Ryan Dungey in a very special place in US MX/SX history, RC did not do that, RV did not do that, Jeremy McGrath did not do that, James Stewart did not do that, people fail to recognise the significance of this and it won’t be realised by many for years to come and Roger D is pivotal in all of that, but Ryan D is doing the riding he has to finish and win the races ultimately. But what a team. Congrats champ deserved. Rodger D should have a team managers championship for every year worked with these riders as well.
So very true. Roger's positive impact on motocross and supercross in the USA and indeed the world, cannot be over stated. There is good reason he is called "The Man".
I still have that original Moto X Fox catalog that was just pages of CZ and Maico parts, stuff from Europe, and aftermarket pipes, etc. Nostalgic but warms the heart to have lived through all of the decades and seen all of the riders, fans, and racers that Moto X Fox/Fox Racing has stood with of which I am but one. Great work Geoff, Bob, Tom, and the whole Fox family...and all the best to Ryan and Lindsay and the whole Dungey family as you begin your life after racing (and having/raising kids!) God Bless Y'all ! : )'
Ugh I wish he didnt retire, im gonna miss watching him. I was too young to see him in his early days but seeing him on KTM was amazing, there will never be another Ryan Dungey. I wish he didnt break his neck, if that didnt happen he would probably still be racing and I would still get to see him race:(
"Goldenrod that was a bad idea" ....lmao. Great video, thank you Ryan Dungey for your contributions to SX & MX and for always taking the time to go out of the way for your fans and being an excellent role model for the kids who want to live the Dream.
I remember that race in Atlanta for his first 250 win. It was an amazing ride. I'm thankful I got to see that race. Ryan is definitely a one of my heroes in motorcross.
I have been watching supercross/motocross since McGrath's rookie season, and I grew up going to Loretta Lynn's every year.(grew up about 45mins away) I am blown away at the amazing riders I have been privileged enough to watch. I also never thought JS7 would only win 2 450 championships. He was one of the most amazing riders i have ever seen, but I was always impressed by CR22's ability to match anyone's speed. God, I love racing!
A motocross and supercross legend. He is my idol and a feel so bad that Dungey retires from supercross and motocross but I also feel so good for him, for his career, his trajectory and for being who he is and not becoming someone else because the fame. Hope Ryan Dugey gets what he wants. He is my best motocross motivation🔥🤘💪
Dungey was the prime example of working harder than everyone to beat everyone. He was a pro all the way and respected others and had everyone's respect. They don't make them like him very often.
Awesome video!! He will be missed, hope he will be around the industry for a long time! True ambassador for our sport! Thank you Ryan, and thank you Fox for this amazing video!
It sucked when Ryan villopoto retired, now Ryan dungey, I will miss seeing the two Ryan's going at it, always clean always respectful and always edge of your seat racing. Good luck to you both.

noticed that throughout the interview he always used the word we instead of i when describing his moto wins. one hell of a humble dude
This is to show that the people that support him helped him through everything and it's nice to see him show credit
My construction forman needs to learn this. Whenever stuff goes perfectly its always "I" did this or "I" did that but when he messes things up it changes to "we" did that or "we" did this.
He started doing that after his first year or two and never stopped!
YEAH, WE MEANING HIS STUPID WIFE..SHE HAS HIS BALLS IN HER PURSE..

I'm glad to see all these positive comments for Dungey he truly is a class act guy. Great role model. No ones perfect by any means but man did that guy walk the Borderline of perfection. Not just on the track but in everyone of his choices and how he acted on them.
Dungey is the man!!
Great film about Dungey's career. Truly a class act for the sport, and someone for young riders to look up too.
Chase Sexton is the New Dungey and I'm here for it. We always need a Ryan Dungey in our sport.
This is perfect. Fox said it best. He represents the best, never give up, kind, calculating, class, just so good for the sport.
I wish all sports would take a page from his lifes work. Wow, I will miss his racing along with his attitude.
