Colorado and Wyoming
The two square states that border each other in these United States
And sure, they are next to each other, but wow are they dramatically different.
But first, let’s look at what they have in common.
Both are about the same size in area, and two of the largest states by area. (C- 8th, W- 10th) Colorado is a bit bigger.
Both have more men than women, which is rare ya know. Only two states, North Dakota and Alaska, have a lower percentage of women than Wyoming.
Both have the Rocky Mountains.
No, but seriously, both are known for their beautiful mountains. That said, folks forget that the eastern portion of both states does look like that, as it’s part of the Great Plains. So yeah, both have lots of (wide open spaces).
Because of those gigantic mountains causing a rain shadow for the eastern portions of both, and because of other mountains further west, much of both states is fairly dry, with the precipitation mostly coming at those higher elevations. Colorado is the seventh driest state overall in the country, while Wyoming is the fifth driest. Wyoming also has the Black Hills which creep into the eastern portion of the state. In that area, the magnificent Devils Tower dramatically rises. You know, the butte where aliens landed in that movie? Teddy Roosevelt designated it the first National Monument back in 1906.
Both have the highest elevation overall, on average. (C-1, W-2) Colorado has the highest incorporated city in all of North America, Alma, although don’t tell the folks in Leadville that.
Tourism is big in both. Colorado has four national parks, Wyoming, just two, but its two parks are two of the most popular in the country. Yellowstone, the country’s very first national park, and Grand Teton. Here’s one of the most overused calendar pictures in the world of that park. Ok, so Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado is pretty darn popular, too.
In addition to tourism, major industries in both include healthcare, retail, and education, although oil and gas is also big in Wyoming and professional services is also big in Colorado.
Both have climates that are somewhat continental and semiarid, but are really all over the place. Generally, of course, the higher up you are, the cooler it is, but the orientation of mountain ranges and valleys in connection with general air movements can cause lots of variation even within short distances. There are also deserts in both. Since Wyoming’s further north, it does get colder than Colorado. #colorado #wyoming #compared
Which is better? Colorado or Wyoming? Which two states should I compare next?

I went to college in Wyoming and currently live in Colorado. Why aren't there more people in Wyoming? Two reasons: Wind and cold. Both are absolutely brutal.
What’s Wyoming
You are so right! Wyoming is soooo cold. I experienced many a blizzard living there.
So true. Casper is awful for wind, but the wind all over us utterly awful. The blizzards are so common that we haven’t had a snow day where I live since... I actually don’t know.
I stayed in Cheyenne WY two winters. It gets boring as it is so cold and snows a lot. Roads close so can't go anywhere. There is a nice library and museum. There is not a lot to do in Cheyenne. If you like small town boring, then you will like it. Long winters. The summers are nice. Wish i had a summer home there, would be a nice retreat.
@Table-Country pinxing THRYM Firearms 27 Anyone who enjoys the outdoors both states are amazing.
Let's oversimplify things
They're both boxes with one having people living in there.
That'll do it.
Cheyenne is just northern Colorado, might as well take the rest of the state too nobody would notice
Eh, I'd say too many people live in Colorado now...
@Trump train Agreed! They are not working here in Colorado. Wyoming has not experienced the "Californication".... So there is still sanity there.

I showed him my Wyoming ID and he scratched at the surface before returning it saying, "They're getting better at making false IDs all the time."

Was the man from Finland?
Which foreign country were you in? West Coast or East Coast?
I had an argument with a guy in Singapore about that when I was in the Navy.
And on the other end of the political spectrum , you’ve got Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Delaware, New Jersey, that should probably just be one state that goes up the north Eastern coast.
Don’t tell people about Wyoming we try and keep it on the down low!! We love being the less populated state!!
Exactly!
You can keep it. Our Colorado is so much better.
Yes we do
Lived 10 years (1970s) in Colorado before I found a way out! Have been happy and at peace in NW Wyoming for over 40 years. All 4 kids born here & are in their later half of their 30s. They all have homes in Wyoming, their permanent residence. Two of them left for a period of time, but not for long. There's no place like my home. And y'all can keep all your bad Colorado attitude south of Cheyenne and Baggs. And taxes in Wyo??? WAY lower than Colo. No state income, sales tax is seldom above 5%, and our tax on fuel is less. Property tax? I live in a tourist town & have a house in town. I pay $360-370 per year. In Colorado in 77-79, we had a $30k house and we paid well over $1000 per year. Wages aren't great, but you have to decide on your priorities...peace of mind or the almighty dollar? Gimme Wyoming ANY day.

He wasn’t kidding about Colorado continuing to grow in population. Traffic here seems to get thicker every year, and I hate it. 🚗 🚙
Same thing is happening to northern Idaho! Especially in the Panhandle!
A few years ago we were hitting ~1,000 people a week average for those moving here. And while California seems to take the blame for that, I can say in my part suburban Denver it's ALL people from the Midwest headed west, with a small added percentage of Texans.
Traffic also is rough more and more because there are so many capital improvement projects to widen the highways which is causing more bottlenecks now than even 5 years ago.
As a fellow Coloradan, I can tell you the western slope of the state is no less crowded and I hate it as well
Yeah. What I’ve seen is mostly people from California. But seriously, what is up with everyone being such bad drivers here?

I actually used to live in Nebraska, so I'm biased towards BOTH. :D
Nebraska is kind of generic. It is much like Iowa or parts of southeastern Colorado. Kansas is a very interesting drive through now, with all the windmills. It's actually BEAUTIFUL Before with just hundreds of miles of wheat field, is was hard to stay awake.
Been to both states and I’ve been to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton, both states are absolutely amazing!!
I love both idk why no one wants to live in Wyoming but guess Colorado has a bit more
Visiting the National parks is great. Living there is a different story.
Colorado definitely has more to offer but Wyoming is amazing

Western Colorado is real odd. Sections of the state that are near Arizona and Utah are in a high desert biomes, and 20 miles away are in mountains, it is a pretty drastic geographical change.

Hi Mr Beat. Great video, Colorado is one of my favorite states. I'm thinking Alberta and British Columbia would be a good comparison. Two western Canadian provinces with lots of differences, BC (liberal/environmentally conscious/coastal) AB (conservative by Canadian standards/energy industry dependent/landlocked) . These two provinces have been at odds with each other recently over pipeline compromises. It is no longer purple, but blue. Colorado really is a foil now to Wyoming and they are growing more opposite every year, it seems. This is not good for Colorado, regrettably. Of course this is one man's opinion, and Colorado has much to love.
@@trishalucero8072 Hickenlooper is Colorado.
I'm from Cheyenne and lived in Denver and occasionally work in Foco, Longmont, and Denver Metro. After you pass Wellington heading north you see a noticeable drop in traffic. Also I-80 runs through Wyoming and is one of the most busiest highway in the USA.
WOW! You commuted from Cheyenne to Denver? I'm from Denver, that's pretty crazy.
I live in Jackson . Right at the base of the Tetons. My first apartment was 1500 / mo for a studio. Bought a trailer and lived in that to make it work. The average job pays 18 - 25 an hour to make up for the high living costs. Great place to live if you can wing it.

In 8:54 the sign on the building says “Polska hala”, does any one know if it actually refers in some way to Poland? I tried to find something on the web but sadly didn’t find anything.
I grew up and lived in Colorado (from 1961 to 1991). I now live in Wyoming (since 1991). I wouldn't move back to Colorado on a dare.
Me either and I moved to Wyoming in 2012 when I was 8 and I’m 16 now I visit my grandparents there often but I never want to move back
El Hayah So you’re saying because I’m a kid my opinion is’n valid.
@@notagoddess4233 When I first moved to Wyoming in 1981, I was 22, single, and hated it. I moved back to Colorado in '84, met a girl from Cheyenne, married her and moved back to Cheyenne in 1991. As a young single guy, it's a lousy place to be. Married and raising children, it's great. The best thing is that the local government leaves us pretty much alone. We never had a lockdown, they did close restaurants for about a month, and masks are not required anywhere, it's up to the business you are entering. In Colorado, masks are required everywhere, unless you are smoking a joint apparently. We have had a total of 42 Covid deaths, and everything has reopened.
Mr. beat you're the best. Your videos are so entertaining and informative.
You are too kind. Thank you so much.
THANK YOU, MR. BEAT!! Another solid video. BRAVO!
Thankd for the comparison video Mr. Beat! Enjoyed it!
Glad you liked it!
Austin and San Antonio would be a cool episode. They're two other very important cities in Central and South-Central Texas respectively, and, despite their proximity, there's still a different energy to both cities. It would be an interesting comparison
Here's an idea: pick a state and compare it's biggest or most important cities
SoCal and SF bay compared please
So many possibilities, so little time...
@@iammrbeat I understand. Alot of stuff to do on our house and almost no time these days
*its
He did....Denver vs. Cheyenne
I really enjoyed your video can you please do a video comparing Iowa and Wyoming I'm not sure which state I want to move to and with your take on both states maybe it will help me decide
This is a great video.I live in Wyoming close to Yellowstone. I have loved it here for years. Thanks for the video!
When did Wyoming get a fourth escalator?
I live and Wyoming and it is really cold and windy but super beautiful and we're definitely prideful.... Most Wyomingites show pride constantly at least where I live. A lot of farmers and ranchers and people here wear cowboy hats often. I live near Devils tower and its majestic
Hello mr beat! U r amazing
I would love if u do more videos about comparing cities !!
Thank uuu
Well thank you and I plan on it! :D

Actually I have a suggestion... Comparing two big african cities from north and south !
I'm sure it will be magnificent and people will get to know more about african cities... what do u think about it ? WOULD LOVE TO KNOW UR OPINION😁😁
@Mr. Beat You could do a video on the 'Four Corner' states, but I'm biased. I want another CO video :D
I love both of these States! Haven't been in years! I heard some Coronado natives are not to fond of us Texan's 😩
Better Texans than Californians.
“Ar-can-zis”?? You mean “Ar-can-saw”?
Ah, interesting, was looking for such a comment! So is the river pronounced the same as the state, or not? (my genuine question, i am from europe, so i don't know)
@@nirfz yes, it is pronounced the same as the state of Arkansas. 😁

My mom moved from California to Colorado Springs back in 2002. I moved to Joplin, MO a year later. Colorado is nice, but altitude sickness always bothers me when I go visit her.
Despite what happened to Matthew Shepard back in 1998, I think Laramie is the nicest city in Wyoming.
Can you explain intersectionality? I've watched several videos and read several definitions and I feel like I still don't know what it is. I understand there is minconstrual abound.
The crime rate in Cheyenne, Wyoming is 43 per 1,000.
Denver, Colorado is 3.3 per 1,000.
Think about it.
Now that we have thought about it, here we come.🤠
Ah my home state of Colorado! Arguably it is the most perfect state of the Union, everyone is respected and everyone is cared for. Also a lot of Marijuana funds go for public education, which is super beneficial for students from challenging backgrounds. Sko Buffs!
It’s also the least obese state
anybody know the name of the song used in the background ?
Question, what state tax are you referring to in Wyoming? To my knowledge, as a Wyoming resident, there is no state tax, but I may have misunderstood what you were saying. Good info video, love it!
4:47 you just proved to me you're from Kansas🤣
THAT'S THE RIGHT WAY TO SAY IT.
@@iammrbeat I'm from Wichita so I know I just didn't think you guys said it that way up North
Haha in Wyoming we have 3 seasons.. Wind, winter and construction!😂
And then all three merge!

Thanks for this cool information!! You make it fun 😀
Wyoming is so mysterious to me.
Same I like to try and imagine all the history that’s happened here I love seeing old photos of Casper it’s so cool
I love Wyoming, despite the growing intolerance fueled by polarized media

@@cowboyceat7453 What's it like living there?
Colorado and Wyoming have their own traits. I've lived in both. Whether or not one is better than the other is totally dependant on your outlook and what you want. Colorado is rapidly becoming California. It's a gorgeous locale that is becoming highly unaffordable for most folks, and also very crowded in what used to be quiet, well maintained, and friendly towns. You used to be able to reach denver from loveland in about 40 minutes. Now it's about an hour and a half. Small mountain towns used to be nice places to explore and spend a few days, now the geese wont even put their nests there anymore because of the bombardment of noisy, dirty, and inconsiderate tourists. Wyoming is the opposite, unless you want to live in Sheridan, which is the Wyoming equivalent of Colorado's Aspen. Wyoming is much more affordable, but it's much more dull. Most of it is flat grassland, fit for cattle and little else. People are nice though. So, hopefully, people finish the conquest of colorado before they start on consuming Wyoming.
San Luis is an absolutely incredible small town, where I stayed for a couple of summers on the Mesa just outside of town you had to go to the natural spring in town every couple of days to load up jugs with water
