Don’t ever stop making vlogs! I love how cinematic your vlogs are and I love that you inject whatever is inspiring you into the aesthetics and visuals. I’m always so inspired and frankly jealous when I watch so if anything know you’re encouraging ME to create!! Also, happy to hear someone else goes down budget rabbit holes - I’m currently deep in budget TikTok but am not good at budgeting myself. Another way you’re inspiring me lol
I can’t WAIT for your ny adventures and it’ll be such a delight to see the city through your eyes! i hope you’ve been settling in okay ^0^ AND LOL glad someone else is on budget tiktok i just find it to be such a fun life game but ofc i’m quite the loser at it…ha 🫠
oh we're kicking off with Virgin Suicides soundtrack! I know I've said it before but your editing is genuinely insanely good, it feels so Godard/Araki/Kenneth Anger type stuff.
Yes I love hearing about the creative process and the intros might be my favorite part. Also loved the look of the black and white visuals at the end of this.
The “don’t talk to me before I’ve had my coffee” …..precious. Speaking of the pudding night, isn’t it such a great feeling when we do for ourselves exactly what we need? Super budgeter here. That bookstore/media store you went to…mind blowing! I’m so glad you’re here in this space.
Quite a naughty, naughty book indeed. Ha. Seems it tempted you to naughty, naughty purchases 😈 Wrap ups feel like work to me a bit too. They’re some of my favourite videos to watch but least favourite to make.
I just discovered your channel and it’s so inspiring! You bring so much thought and wit to your book reviews and general life commentary. Thanks for all your hard work and thought!
Lovely video! I really like how you talk about books. I'm mostly a silent viewer but you saying thank you at the end of the video, makes me want to say thank you too you too for making these great book vlogs! 😊 I'm currently reading Anything is possible, by Elizabeth Strout (second book in the Lucy Barton books). I have been enjoying her books, might read more of her next
ahhh thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! it truly means a lot :3 and ooh! i've been thinking about jumping into the series after reading Tell Me Everything! wishing you well on your Strout journey!
I think that the NYRB cover of I Used to Be Charming is good. Marilyn Minter's photography is kind of perfect for a Babitz cover. I understand why people wouldn't like it tbh.
the viewpoint i was looking for!!! okay! i can see it as i'm seeing other photographs from Minter. and honestly, there were better options! i would've preferred a red heel. maybe even lips! something a litte more seductive while maintaining glam.
I got that ugly nyrb cover months ago and still haven't touched it, wonder why hahahah love your vlogs and especially the intros such a treat to the eye
also I would absolutely love a video dedicated to the behind the scenes of your editing or just your creative process or what's inspiring you lately. being able to pick your wonderful brain for a bit would be such a treat hahaha
i remember you spoke of it before! can’t wait to get to it when i go through all her work :) and noted! been getting a few comments on process and might cook something up!
I read "Shopgirl" and I felt like it was written like a script. If you frame it in that context, it is a little better? But that being said, I do believe that I found my copy in the 90% markdown bin at my local bookstore...they were basically giving it away. So that *does* say something.
it does work like a film script in the way of the gaze, but i also think there are smart ways to write through it outside of objectification. there is a leniency in the eye when it comes to the male characters, and is just magnified in the film as well. but a 90% markdown bin does say a lot and WOW what a treat that must be! Hope you found some gems in that bin !
I think I've read 30 pages of LA Woman 3 times and never got past like 60 pages in. Too bad! I think the Anolik is skippable tbh, she spends a lot of it talking about how Babitz's books weren't even that good. Saving Black Swans for last is a good move, it's my favorite of hers (though I haven't read I Used to Be Charming all the way through yet).
ok glad i’m not the only one who had issues with it 😭😭😭 and interesting!!! curious what you think of I Used to be Charming when you do finish it. i think you’re the only other person i know who is a Babitz enthusiast ! Haha
Yes!!! Summer has to end! We were back to over 30 degrees Celsius for the last couple of days and I can't do this anymore. I gave up on Sex&Rage by Babbitz last week, because I couldn't be less interested in these people. Also the writing was just not great.
truly over it! the highest it will be this week is 35 and i just want my knits and coats already !!! it really is quite tragic! i wish Babitz didn’t have to put herself in the refrain of being a serious writer and wished she had written the things she wanted to write, as they were.

SEE! i feel i would suffer from the same dilemma…too ugly of a cover 🫠
I've read very little eve babitz in my life but my favorite is black swans!!!! read it last summer and I adored it, definitely save it for last

@@robotnic that sounds amazing!! might be a casual read for me! 🫡🫡

I want to read babitz for the la writer-ness about her but so many red flags 😅🫣
@@yenasung too many to count unfortunately…i think Slow Days Fast Company is the one hit wonder 😮💨

oh you's FIRST!!!
I need to write too. I have a goal of a page a day, which I never reach 🫠
I love, love your intros.
