I'm so glad I found your channel. I love it. I love this dish. My parents came from Virginia to visit me here in St Petersburg and I fixed this dish. I've also been teaching Russians how to cook American foods. Cultural exchange can be very tasty!

This is a typical Ashkanazi dish. Had it a few times growing up in Brighton Beach Brooklyn. Just crack open a jar of Vita pickled herring in cream sauce.

Happy New Year (would say it in Russian but don't remember the words Russian dad😕).
I don't know if you follow "The Ushanka Show", its host Sergei, a Russian speaking Ucranian who grew up in the Soviet Union and does a lot of in depth videos of what is was really like, said he can't wait to eat "herring under shuba".
So Prospero Ano Nuevo. We in the Spanish speaking world eat 13 grapes at the stroke of the bells (las campanadas) one for the old month (december) and one for the 12 months you are to live to bring good fortune.
In Mexico they even got a TV Show on December 31 on both networks called "Las Campanadas" from 8PM to 1AM, kind of a Mexican version of Little Blue Fire.
