You could def made a lil series out of the propmakers and their projects. Damn shame the episodes are only a few minutes long!
read the books, the movie looks awesome, but the story gets ruined, in the book there is no truly evil or good character, and the story makes more sense ;) Valentine is that much cooler in the books.
I cant speak for wherever this man comes from but there is a model making industry in England, mostly focused around the architecture, film and engineering industries. For a number of years I worked in this industry, making models of boats and tanks and buildings sort of like this guy. Its nice to see people are still using hand skills in the industry, I sort of left to pursue a different career for a few reasons one of which is that 3d printing is sucking the fun out of the industry. Soon enough model makers may be mere cad technicians.
Speaking as someone who read the books back circa 2010, this movie was very, very bad.. but i want it to succeed so they can adapt the other books. i really hated what they did to my favourite story of all time (yes, i love ME more than LotR or Dune) but it feels so good to see the cities and airships i know and love on the big screen.. even if they turned it into starwars.
It's so sad when so much passion goes into a project and the public doesn't receive it. It's also so sad when so little passion goes into a project and they do.
i wish they had made the story the same as in the books.... how are they going to make infernal devices if there is no green storm? because there can be no green storm without the corpse of anna fang (which in the movie was blown up in stpauls)
just wow my man i wish i could be doing your job, i love this film all of the set work was just fantastic i made a chair a while ago the would not of looked out of place in this movie.
The story was a little too predictable because we've seen it play it out in various other movies. Other than that, this was a really well done movie with the visuals and setting.
It was a good entertaining movie. If you put too much stock in a Story, or try to apply it to real life like people did in this movie, then they ruin it by being too critical. Thats exactly why many movies are bombing. People are putting too much into something that is supposed to be entertaining, not supposed to be real. Nice Video, its a shame he couldnt have gotten more into detail, lighting and motorzation of the models.
I was really disappointed in the movie. the books are one of the most incredible stories i've ever read. the movie changed so much they can't even make films of the other 6 books because of how badly they messed this one up. (think fellowship of the ring, but when the hobbits get to rivendell, arogorn dies in a gunfight and they give the ring to boromir)
@@scottfirman Oh i do hope you enjoy them! There are 7 books in total, 3 of which are prequels, but you only need to read the first one to get an idea whether or not you'll like the series. The first half of the movie was fairly close to the book (some major changes) but as it goes on i'm sure you'll see how good this film COULD have been.
Well you modeler types all did a lovely job. I have zero qualms with how the movie looks. It's quite gorgeous. Plot, and clumsy writing, was what kind of lessened this pretty film for me. I feel like Terry Gilliam might have had an easier time with this subject matter.
The film really pissed me off, the first half was really damned good, they changed a lot from the (very well written i might add) books, but that always happens and i could deal with it. but everything that happened after the characters arrived at airhaven was UTTERLY removed from the books, so much so that most of the plot of the later books was made impossible by their fuckery in this movie. It felt like i'd gone to watch the fellowship of the ring, but after the hobbits get to rivendell, legolas dies in a gunfight and they give the ring to boromir.
That is not the Jenny Haniver, the Jenny is supposed to be an airship with a gasbag, in the lore the secret of heavier than air flight was lost after the collapse of civilisation. It was also supposed to have been bolted together out of hodgepodge parts from scrapyards, not be one solid contiguous thing.
Mezari Sage I read the books too. And I too was disappointed by how it looked in the film at first (the movie is already out in Belgium). But in the movie its very clear that there's helium or at least a gas in the wing/balloons
Ehh, it still doesn't look like there'd be enough gas in there to keep it aloft, though at least from the trailer shrike looks a lot like how I imagined him.
