Say what you want about “wasted potential” or whatever but he’s still accomplished some badass wins, 8th alternate and an open at the old course!? Cmon now! And always unapologetically himself. Love ya dude!
JD will always be my favorite golfer. We love you here in Tennessee John and always will.
Fun, fun week! So many stories I could relate. Daly was reported to be driving golf balls OVER the net on practice range. A bit of Faldo's practice consisted of one-handed wedges to nearly exactly 100 yards, as he alternated hands! Nick was ranked World #1 then. Indy was in midst of historic drought, as the pro's were dumbfounded on how lush the course was. When it finally rains, lightning strikes and kill's a guy. Daly donates cash to the poor man's family. Also, Daly nearly penalized when his caddy, Squeaky Medlin, was accused of showing John the correct line of putting with the flagstick. The final decision by the officials took several nervous minutes with many replays.
In some ways this tourney was an historic turning point for the sport. It elevated Pete Dye's stature as a designer and he owned a house right on the golf course! Daly's Driving distance's were suddenly golf's main headlines. Player's/media debated it could be an advantage to hit a wedge from high rough at 120 yards, instead of a 4 iron from 210 out. Couple that was the fact that Daly was practically unknown and wins a Major Tournament simply by "gripping and ripping...'
I was at that tournament. Staked out a spot on the #1 tee box and watched some of the greatest golfers of all time all day. Daly hit the ball farther than I could even see.
Unbelievable length at that time
John Daly a brilliant driver of the ball and not only that John Daly was blessed with a wonderful touch around the greens..yes John Daly had his problems but he was and always will be a popular guy...he also will be remembered for donating 30000 dollars of his winnings to a particular family who's. Father was struck by lightning at the championship .
Loved right next to those course. Epic
One of the best ever. Love him
I love this man so much I wish I could meet him.
The real Happy Gilmore
Daly is a Rockstar. We're both from Arkansas
I wish this would come back to crooked stick if this was happening now I’d totally be there walking the course as it’s just right down the road
It is so easy to be famous if you are good. John Daly gave you the recipe, tell the fans every chance you get that you get chills from their cheers, we will cheer you forever
Legendary
Imagine if john practiced and focused more of thr game back in his prime! He woukd have won dozens of tournements and many more maiors
Tiger told him he works and practices so much because he wasn't as good as Jon
Yyýyý
He made plenty of money and lived the life he wanted to live
What more can you ask for
Love jhon Daly
The people's champion.
When he throws the ball from the winning putt into the crowd at 3:21…….I wonder who caught that and how much it’s worth?
It's the best he's ever played
Too bad he was never able to repeat this level of performance
I mean... he won the british open too lol.
Thats because he didnt have discipline!! If he dedicated himself, he wouldve won many titles!!!!
Winning the Open Championship is a Major performance, and John would’ve won more majors and tournaments if it hadn’t been for his life off the course.
@@RG-ja34sep He did have a successful career but it could have been so much more. Maybe 5+ majors, 30+ tournaments, and an unquestioned place among the all-time greats.
Err he won the open....just to biggest thing to win in the sport
Tiger who?
I bet he could still beat Tiger in a long drive competition
Then he pissed it all away.
Still making millions of dollars golfing and from endorsements. He hardly pissed it away, just never lived to his full potential
Masters is the best golf tournament...tf
@james bryan only 3 times. Definitely not a scratch golfer
Daly > Tiger. Make of that what you will.
