Im Jahr 2018 wurde bei Ausgrabungen in Kalkriese ein Block geborgen. Der Inhalt: ein nahezu komplett erhaltener Schienenpanzer! Das Video erzählt die Geschichte des Funds.

Ich durfte auch die Restaurationswerkstatt besuchen, einen Teil der tausenden Funde im Archiv bestaunen, Funde einmessen etc. Unvergesslich und Gratulation zu diesem Fund der das Wissen einfach unglaublich verändern wird. Die Lorica Segmentata Corbridge durfte ich auch schon live bestaunen. Hoffe mal wieder nach Kalkriese zu kommen wenn der Fund ausgestellt werden kann. Gruß aus Vindobona ;-)

Great little "mini-documentary" on an extraordinary piece of Roman military equipment. I was surprised there did not seem to be anything about the 'prisoner shackles' that the popular press reported being found along with the armor. I was surprised how deep it was buried in what otherwise looked like 'clean' sand. Was it a deliberately buried votive offering, or was this once swampy ground that in may have sunk into? Are there good prospects for other large pieces of Roman equipment deposited in the same area that Ground Penetrating Radar could have picked up? It was a great thrill and privilege for me to be given the opportunity of handling the famous cavalry face mask and some of the other Kalkriese objects during the setting of the the big exhibit in Rosenheim almost twenty years ago when I was still stationed in Germany. (All of the reconstructed Roman and Germanic equipment on the life size mannequins belonged to me, as well as the thousands and thousands of tiny painted Roman soldiers in the long case that went arond the whole exhibit).
It was not buried, but lying in the surface for a long time before being buried by natural processes. Also, it was not found in swamp sediment, but on normal, sandy, dry ground

Aus sicherer Entfernung die "letzten" Details zum Ablauf und den zur damaligen Zeit herrschenden und im Zusammenhang mit dem Ereignisses stehenden Umständen zu erfahren, das wäre der Knaller. Na ja, vielleicht irgendwann einmal ;-) Wer will mit dabei sein?
Wow amazing!! I see they claim no arm guards but I clearly see a rivet where the leathers attach arm guards on the corbridge lorica? Perhaps it is not intended for a leather? Also the rivet with the coral head(maybe enamel but i doubt it) is just like, as in looks exactly like) some of the rosettes on at least one if not two Gallic style helmets also from the Rhine region and this in particular is exciting for me personally. I cant wait for the full restoration and also to make this particular lorica.
It is possible the arm guards were removable on this particular armor, and were not attached at the time of deposition. It surely seems incomplete without them. They could have been unbuckled for easier maintenance, given the high degree of finish on this armor with lavish use of coral or enamel inlaid boss, cupric alloy edging, trim, and lavish use of buckles and staps for closing, instead of simple leather ties as in the Corbridge and Newstead finds.
There are no entire ones. Only framents were found. Only in Corbridge (GB) are six Lorica Segmentata - but only the half oft it and 100 years younger than our.
Weiß man inzwischen, wie der Schinenpanzer in diese Tiefe kam? Zu vermuten ist, daß er in eine Grube kam, denn an der Oberfläche damals liegengeblieben, wäre er viel schneller verrostet und zerfallen.

Die Varusschlacht existierte nie. Das wurde alles dorthin trappiert, um sich über die Römer lustig zu machen.

Er lag wohl tatsächlich lange an der Oberfläche. Der Panzer ist auf Höhe der normalen Kalkriesefunde aufgetaucht, wurde also nicht extra begraben
