Now we know why Mayu was too scared of making friends again, that's what drove Yuki into wanting to protect her from harm 😢
I guess we can see why Yuki is so driven to protect her no matter what. It's not just a matter of her common behavior as a cat but it's also based on her experience from Mayu's past.
I’m getting the impression that Mayu has a heavy case of Hyperfocus. She gets so engrossed in whatever task she’s doing (mostly something that interests her or feels important) that she shuts everything else out to concentrate.
I bet her hyperfocus is so bad, not even taps on the shoulder would break it (you have to literally shake sense into her, which most people you’re not close to would do); so she gave the unintentional impression that she was blatantly blowing off her friend, which can hurt on the receiving end too (I’ve heard in Japan that’s the number one bullying tactic, giving someone you don’t like or don’t want to associate with the cold shoulder, and blatantly ignoring them).
So I’m not going to fault the ex-friend for misunderstanding. From her perspective, Mayu suddenly stopped talking to her and ignored her presence when she tried to get her attention. She got hurt and felt Mayu didn’t like her anymore (probably even passively bullying her), so believed the friendship was over and stopped associating with her. (From the looks of it, this probably happened for days before the ex-friend came to her extreme conclusion.)
Mayu in turn had no idea what was going on outside of her hyperfocus, so once her task was done, she was confused on why her friend abandoned her; completely unaware that her actions unintentionally caused the breakup.
The girls were both hurt and didn’t know how to reconcile, thinking one abandoned the other for no good reason. They’re kids, so they probably didn’t have the emotional intelligence nor maturity to reach out and talk. They misunderstood, got hurt, and just left things as is.
Well I just think that embroidery really suits Mayu, and that just shows how much she values her dream

Poor Mayu, she just wanted to make something for her friend's birthday but was to concetrated and cant hear her friend's voice
And so her friend thought that Mayu doesnt listen to her anymore and she felt betrayed and so she stops being her friend but it was a misundertanding
So thats why in her past she was alone in her old school and was sad

So that’s why Mayu was afraid to make friends again……she has some trauma from her friend in the past who betrayed her. That old friend sure is cold AF. Just talk it out calmly insiead of breaking off your friendship like that. Poor Mayu, I know that feeling
Komugi is right. Being true friends doesn't mean they get along all the time without any problem. They clash at times as well. But, through clashing with each other, they would be able to understand each other much better and become better friends when they make up. If a simple misunderstanding like that is what it takes to make that girl end her friendship with Mayu without properly talking to her, then, that's just how far their relationship goes. As simple as that.
I feel bad for Mayu. And that's why Yuki is being overprotective of Mayu.
I feel so sorry for Mayu. Since she's a precure now Iroha and Komugi are like her new friends, and of course their a team. i bet All four of them probably been through alot, Its probably a theory I had. All I gotta say is that nobody is perfect. Now I understand why Yuki is protecting Mayu this whole time...however in the end..since we saw how Komugi and Yuki became friends...Yuki finally has her trust with the Dog Duo. In the Precure Series...There are some emotional things happening but there is always a fast solution in everything.😊

She isnt ignoring you, She is just "In the Zone" and anyone knows if you are "In the Zone" they need a total Focus (Especially with a needle in their hand) so i understand Mayu and her old friend probably just being mean for breaking up their friendship over that

Honestly that feels like a weak explanation of why mayu is afraid of making new friends, i mean her old friend could at least tap on the shoulder, that would make sense.
Honestly, the way the story is told, I feel like this may have happened several times, and one of them involving that friend actually tried this off screen. And yet they never communicated about that, hence causing the misunderstanding to be never resolved, which ended their friendship

When the Precures didn't notice that Warubarbie was planning to kill them because they are still special and not her, the girls flew and begun attacking her. But until then, and for only one. They only left Mayu behind, it's because she was not gifted by a limited object, and only one person just saw her sobbing due to not get a special object. It was so upset is that Mayu cried quietly because she didn't have a friend, because her old friend was misunderstanding.
Although they were surprised and distracted by her, Warubarbie kicks them out, leaving them separated from different rooms.
