      Thank you Wonderpope! I think the secret is having the microphone part of the phone pointing directly at the amp’s grill cloth, and only 5 or 6 inches away. And keeping the volume to a bedroom level (to avoid it distorting). That way, the iPhone’s mic scoops up all the lovely nuances and overtones coming straight off the speaker. Cheers for watching 👍

    There are so much musical nutrients to digest from this video alone, it's mind boggling.. what a class act! I would have to fully agree. The 335 with the Vox was just fantastic... I got the 335, now I really have to go through the trouble of getting myself a Vox lol.. thank you for your content Paul, cheers and stay safe!

      Thank you Krenar, delighted we agree on the 335 / Vox combination. Actually, I struggle to understand how it’s so affordable.... it’s currently £629 brand new here in the UK. Four glowing EL84s, the smell, the look, the warmth, the depth.... man, it’s my go to amp most days 🤣

    Again, your playing is amazing and I really enjoy listening to everything you play. I love the tone of all 5 guitars through your choice of amps....and the dynamics that emote from your playing carries through in all 5 setups....absolutely a 10 out of 10 for all 5 guitars....with you behind the wheel. Every tune you played was a gem. I noticed 1/2 step down and drop d in some of the tunes. I definitely try to capture your tone and style when I play guitar at home. I am an old timer that has not played for years and not very good but have a keen ear. Was learning songs back when 8 track tapes were around and we had to spin records by hand to slow things down to learn songs. Albums played at 33 rpm...the slowest speed record players would play at. We would shut off the turn table and spin the record by hand to slow things down. The Pitch would change. Would also have to raise the arm of the record player because it got in the way. Also would have to eye ball where to put the needle to repeat the lick. I've been around and you are an exceptional player!!! Your playing has really inspired me to play and practice more.

Play / stop / rewind / tape chewed. Aarrgghh! Well thank you Wayne, happy practicing mate 👍

    Hello Paul, thanks for sharing. My choice of tone taste lean forward to the P90 into the Astoria. I loved your Tele in the AC30 when cranked, but it really depends on what you're playing. I just noticed you wrapping around the tailpiece of your Gibson : what does it bring to you ? Also the neck humbucker of your Les Paul is reverse , Peter Green tones ? Anyway your playing was little bit sad this morning, hope you're doing well . Cheers Sir.

    • @paulstaffordcook8799
      @paulstaffordcook8799  3 роки тому +2

      Very observant Gilles 🤣. It’s funny, I’ve had the neck pup swapped for a good few months, and I think you’re the first to notice! Actually, I did it around the time of Peter Green’s death, like a little act of tribute. It makes zero difference to the tone (because I haven’t tinkered with wires / polarity), but it’s my little tribute to a nice person. So I’ll leave it like that forever. And the top wrapping of my Gibson tailpieces... yeah, I’m gonna to a video on that.... I don’t think I hear a difference with top wrapping. But physiologically it makes sense to have the stud tailpiece screwed right to the wood, to kill off any chance of movement, and maybe benefit sustain. But then the break angle of the strings is very severe.... so top wrapping returns the slinky feel and reduces the break angle again. And I prefer the look (because I’m really just a big Bonamassa fan) 🤣. Cheers Gillies, stay well my friend.

    Great playing, you have a wonderful collection of guitars.
    Personally, I thought the Gibson Les Paul plugged into the Marshall was the combination, but Gibson’s always sound good with a Marshall.

    AT LAST! How amps and guitars REALLY sound. How many people have been fooled by listening to demos of amps and pedals and guitars that have been MIKED up close to the amps speaker. I have for one! The real sound is sooooo different when your ear or mike is a few feet away from the speaker. My Princeton and Custom Shop Tele sound stunning if I sit and play with the speaker right up close to me....as soon as you move away...not so sweet. So thx for letting us hear the REAL sound of your kit:)

    Paul always amazing and inspiring!!! Is the Cornell still your favorite amp? Is that the Romany 12 w/Reverb? Considering picking that up.

    • @Ironworthstriking
      @Ironworthstriking 3 роки тому

      Just gonna slip in here and say the Cornell Romany 12 is an incredible amp. I own one and it's beautiful. It's sort of based on a tweed Champ, but to my ear is more akin to a 10-watt Fender Bassman. Incredible low end and the natural overdrive is gorgeous. The power attenuation is great for playing at home, and it takes pedals very well. Get one!

      @paulstaffordcook8799  3 роки тому

      Hi James. Yes, my mood changes daily, so it’s wonderful to have 5 amps to suit my changing moods 🤣. But yes, I’d say the Cornell is the overall favourite. It just hits the sweet-spot most often.

    • @paulstaffordcook8799
      @paulstaffordcook8799  3 роки тому

      Hi Joe. Yes, well noticed that it sounds different. It’s wearing 12s (I normally use 11s), and it’s been down tuned 1 whole step. I think they call it “D standard”. I’ve enjoyed it like that, but I think I’ll revert to normal tuning (and guage 11s) at the next string change. 👍

    It's a funny fella is tone. A different thing objectively and subjectively. I get so lost in your wonderful playing that I tend to feel that you sound great all the time. I don't have great experience of Vox amps but the time I had the chance to spend some time with an AC15, I hated it...Hahahahahaha. You playing the Telecaster through the AC30 sounds wonderful and I am convinced that part of how good it sounds has to do with how good it makes you feel. You certainly skip and dance around a lot with that combination.
    The Les Paul/Marshall also sounds good but I wouldn't be listening or enjoying if it were any one of a number of other players.
    It is literally all good :-)

    Hi Paul!, What did you do with you Supro? Don't you play it anymore?

    • @paulstaffordcook8799
      @paulstaffordcook8799  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Sergio. I still have the Supro and I still love it. But it needs to be cranked to around 7 before it gets crunchy, i.e. way past bedroom volume. So it needs an overdrive pedal. Whereas my other amps have a Gain knob or have in built attenuation. I wanted this test to be without overdrive pedals, hence why the Supro did not feature. I did a video a while back where I cranked the Supro with the Les Paul - and I loved it! Here’s the vid: ua-cam.com/video/QcaYQKduH5s/v-deo.html

    • @sluque
      @sluque 3 роки тому

      @@paulstaffordcook8799 I loved that video. Indeed one of the reasons to buy muy Supro was that sound. I love the "almost-compressed" sound of the Supro. I play blues with a LP and a Tele with Hum. and I get that twangy/compressed sound that I love. My only problem is that I can only play with the volume under 1, it is too freaking loud. I have a BluesJr too but I guess I'll end buying a Princeton Rever. You had one, didn't you?

    • @paulstaffordcook8799

      @paulstaffordcook8799  3 роки тому

      Hi Roger. Well noticed that something isn’t normal 🤣. It’s actually tuned in a standard way except everything down one tone. I think they call it D standard? Not sure. It’s an experiment I was doing a while ago...... But I’m kinda done with that now so I’ll probably go back to E standard on the next string change.
