    Thanks for these videos. They have been very helpful during my rebuild. In regards to the small vanos selenoid, I found one on each side of my 2009 N12 engine, so I replaced both.

    Invest in a small tube of silicone grease. Much friendlier to O-rings than oil. And a bit cleaner :)

    1.6 Litre engine is best but most Mini drivers have a very limited driving ability and struggle to determine which part of the Motorway they should drive on including the wrong carriageway but apart from that George this is a Boss rebuild

    Throw that Mann filter out and use a Perflux/genuine MINI. Those will collapse over time and cause low oil pressure. I've so far replaced 1 engine due to that and had to do bearings on another for the same reason.

      Lol what… Mann are the number 1 for oil filters. They’re the OEM supplier for BMW.

      @@GeorgeAusters In the case of the MINI it is Perflux, larger surface area as well on the Perflux/MINI. Remember this MINI N14 has Peugot Prince N14 roots ;)

    I also forgot to mention last episode, the exhaust cam bolt spec is 90* not 180*, only the VANOS phaser is 180*. Cheers! Have been thoroughly enjoying this series.

    George to be honest I think it looks slightly wrong. I would install it in my Cooper S just to run it for a while make sure it’s ok, what do you think?

    George have you balance the crank or it’s not necessary?

      I didn't.. If you're building a race engine then its definitely best to balance the crank, pistons, rods, flywheel etc

    IF I was you! (No ofens!) While itisin The air, i would clean The engien bay, under coat it, overhaul The rear. New bushes repaint it as you did in The front. & replace worn parts, like fuel filter.... so it is 110% & not feeling of when it al is resembled.... I mean while it is in The air... 😅

      I’ve cleaned the engine bay etc but will be tackling the rear end once it’s back up and a running👍🏻

    hi i dont suppose you know how the cam pulleys and crank are meant to be located i brought a non runner mini r56 with timing out any help gladly appreciated keep up the good work

      Buy a basic timing kit crank tool locks the flywheel then cams are set with the other tools. Think George covers it in previous episodes. Best of luck !

    That is an incorrect oil filter, the correct one should have plastic ends to it. I had this when getting a Mann filter from Eurocarparts. I'd double check that.

      @@GeorgeAusters If you're happy go ahead, but I had one like that where it was fully paper(plastic in the center) and it moved about a lot, compared to the old one which had plastic caps on the ends of it and it didn't wiggle half as much, so went and checked and got the correct one. You can see a picture of one on the Lohen website to gauge what I mean by the plastic caps.
