I built a home on Lombok mid 2020. I’m lucky my wife is Indonesian so the owning of the land was not a hurdle for us. I am a bricklayer by trade so I knew the Australian process which is completely different to Indonesia. We bought 2 ara for $10 000 Australian and one of my wife’s school friends was a notorist (conveyancer). I drew the house up which is 150 square metres, two bathrooms, three bedrooms and a pool single story. I don’t like being a slave to lawns and gardens but my wife enjoys her plants so I have about 20 metres of garden beds in total around the house, lots of large pots tastefully spread around the pool and front yard. I only used the highest quality of timber for the sliding doors and window frames, steel roof trusses and terracotta roof tiles. To lockup stage I had 12 boys working on it. Very interesting because I spoke no Indonesian and they spoke no English but I employed my son in law full time to translate and help. The whole cost was $64 000 Australian, this included coffee, gas for the small cooker, water, cigarettes (which you should supply your workers with) and legals. It took six months to have it to move in stage but ceilings were still being installed in other rooms. I would do it again tomorrow if I had the chance.
@@karencollins5287 I’m between Mataram and senggigi. In my opinion Lombok is a better choice than Bali because it’s quiet, doesn’t have all the hassles of building like Bali, has everything Bali has in the way of restaurants, hotels, beach bars and tourists here are virtually non existent all times of the year. Extremely good roads, heaps of hospitals, easy day trips to the Gili islands and Kuta Lombok. Traffic is quiet except maybe Sunday 12 pm to 7 pm because kids are at school 6 days a week so Sunday is the only time families can go out together. Lombok is known as the island of a thousand mosques but they are easy to get used to ( normally 5am, 12pm and 6pm. Prices here are mostly cheaper than Bali and the people are very polite and friendly.
