Vodka + Water in a Spray Bottle. It's how we do it for costumes in theatre :) Many costumes can't be washed or dry cleaned. Works wonders. No chemicals or 'cover up' scents involved (and nothing smells like vodka). I use it at home too. Easiest option out there (imo)
I cant find the comment, but someone suggested borax and oxyclean. And it WORKED! Let them soak a while before finishing the wash cycle. Im so glad i saved my clothes! Hope this helps someone.

Another idea is to use Natures Miracle skunk odor remover in your wash. Yes, found this when my big dog would try to play with the skunks on our property. Use a capful in any load of washable clothes and will remove any mildewy or old clothes smell from your clothes. It neutralizes and not a perfume cover up. It’s a bio-enzyme and stops the odor. It’s great to use on your bedsheets and towels too.
I'll have to try some of these. I've always felt bad about this, because I struggled with mental health stuff for a long time, and many things, including laundry piled up.... And I was worried I would have to get rid of so much clothing. Other searches I did said that if you clothes still smell after washing or using an oxy-clean type thing, then you would NEVER get the smell out. I truly hope that's not the case!

Freezer trick is good. I also leave those smelly ones soaked in water with white vinegar for an hour before washing or I add vinegar to washing machine together with powder..
I love all your videos, but the scientist in me needs to say it. Freezing clothes will kill some bacteria but many will survive and repopulate after clothes are back from the freezer. In the lab, we keep our bacteria’s frozen, so we know they will grow back. I do see how clothes may smell refreshed after the freezer time, but the bacterials load is just paused not eliminated. But as long as they feel fresh enjoy wear it one more time, I guess it ok:))😊
This was very informative. I didn’t know some of the ways. I have a steamer, but I usually just spray what I want to wear with the Downey wrinkle release, and put whatever it is in the bathroom when I take a shower. So the steam from the shower will help with the wrinkles. I knew the freezer one. I have never tried it. I know if you put your jeans in the freezer when you take them out, you can wear them a few more times without washing them.
As we speak, I have a 100% wool second hand coat in the freezer 😂 it really works and also kills bacterias, moths and their eggs if there are any, you never know with second hand…
Seriously get a few cans of cheap beer and soak them in it. I learned about moldy smell because I had to wear a hard hat and my hair smelled like swamp even after washing and my dad told me that beer will kill the mold smell so I added beer to my shampoo and the smell never came back. i do the same with moldy clothes just drop a beer in the wash with detergent and let it soak for 30 minutes or so
When washing clothes, I add some baking soda or do a vinegar rinse instead of fabric softener and that works really well. But my go to is the freezer or just hang it outside to get air :)
You talked about stinking clothes, and I was just happy for the video, it took my mind off the past couple of weeks since I had a unwelcome visitor in my hometown IAN.
What also works well is to dissolve a small box of baking soda in your washing machine or a bucket of water and have the clothes soak for about 15 to 30 minutes then rinse with fabric softener.
Has anyone ever used original Pine-Sol in your washing machine to clean your stinky clothing or when you hand wash your clothing. And use plain white vinegar and a few drops of pure essential oil. And for the dryer use some witch hazel and some pure essential oil with water in a glass spray bottle and spray it on a wooly ball and toss it in the dryer with your laundry. Also I heard by hanging your laundry outside in the winter time kills bacteria and freshens up your clothing. I have personally use Pine-Sol and some white vinegar to do a deep washing machine cleaning every three months. And just use white vinegar with some pure essential lavender oil and a few drops of tea tree oil as my fabric softener. And my clothing smell and feel so soft and clean. I guess whatever works . And it never hurts to try a new way in cleaning your clothing.
The freezer: I have a polyester jacket and I put it in the freezer over night 3 times then put it outside to air out this was the best combo thank you so much ✅
I think the best method is ozone generator and an enclosed tub. Then after airing it for 2 days, use vinagar and water wash and let it soak. Was given the worse smelling clothes that was infused with some strange curry spice. This was the only solution
Great video ! May I add my favourite hack for getting rid of "garage odour"......... very inexpensive Woolite Dry Care sheets !. This is a mock-dry cleaning process where you put your smelly cloth in the dryer with a sheet, agitate on warm for 20 minutes and your garment is totally revived and fresh smelling. Truly amazing ! I have revived clean clothes that were put in storage and got "that smell", as well as dusty/smelly drapes that I did not want to launder and press....... with truly amazing results and minimal fuss. Try it !
I have heard of the freezer to put your clothes when they stink also the vodka and water is another good one and using white vinegar in your laundry works well too.
I got a real cute sweater at a thrift store. I didn't realize till I got home it smelled musky. - I soaked it in a half gallon of vinegar for 2 days, that didn't work! - I washed it and added a full box of baking soda, that didn't work! - I washed it and added a full bottle of lemon juice, that didn't work! - Each time I hung it outside, that didn't work! Finally it hit me to try carpet odor powder. I laid it out flat on a large garbage bag and sprinkled it front and back. I turned it wrong side out and repeated it. Then I pulled the garbage bag up and around it and tied it up. Over 2 days I would shake it like shake n bake. Then I took it outside and shook the loose powder off. I washed it and hung it outside. FINALLY it worked!!! However, after trying so many different things the price of my bargain sweater went up!
I have something dead in my attic. I have 2 companies coming out tomorrow to get rid of whatever this is, but do you think your methods will work on my clothes?
Oh my, I hope they were able to find the problem! Yes, that does happen, but I've noticed that once the animal is removed, the smell quickly goes away. I think washing or freezing the garments should eliminate any residual odors. Keep me posted!
A few days ago, I got something that smelled really bad on some cotton clothes, The smell was of the character that told me "bacteria". I put it in the washer and cranked it up to 194 degrees. I really did not think I could have drenched them in hand sanitizer over night and then wash in a cooler temp. I believe you could mix the hand sanitizer with lemon juice and/or vinegar, but I have not tried.

I have old dressers. They are in great shape and I don’t want to get rid of them. My clothes often have a woody, old smell. I’ve put dryer sheets in the drawers. I even took out the drawers and covered the wood with a shellac finish. Nothing has helped.

The laundry detergent, especially the scent pellets are adding to the problems. But when you look at the chemistry of the polyester synthetic fibers, and you're not washing out the soups, the Sent sookers and even dryer sheets. When that stuff stays into the fibers that holds the bacteria, creating the odor. Quick, so how do you break that down and get that out?
Perfume, cologne, body spray, scented lotions and creams, and other fragrances on second hand items. If I can't get those smells out, I have to get rid of whatever I purchased.
I find that synthetic fibers hold those smells more than natural fibers. More people are shopping at thrift stores these days and it take times to get rid of some odors and some never go away.
